Chapter 7
Wanda bounced for the entire train ride. While Sam slept and Natasha and Steve murmured between each other, Wanda couldn't help but fidget in her seat. If Natasha hadn't been so engrossed in her conversation with Steve, Wanda almost would have felt bad for not sitting still.
Sooner than Wanda had expected, an announcement came over the speakers and Natasha informed them they would be arriving at the airport in five minutes. Sam was woken up from his nap and they quickly made their way to the door of the train, eager to get off the train.
It didn't take long for people to start noticing them. At first, Wanda just heard a few confused thoughts, but then people began to stare a bit longer and she heard someone murmur about Captain America. Instead of mention it to either Natasha or Steve, Wanda followed them silently through the airport.
Fortunately, Natasha seemed to say the right thing to get them through security without tickets. She bickered with an agent for a moment but after she mentioned the name Stark, they were hastily escorted through the back of the airport.
The airport was big. Even though they weren't taken through the main halls, it was still big enough that Wanda could have gotten lost. She made sure to stay close to Natasha and was relieved when they finally stepped out onto the tarmac.
The agent left them after that, but Wanda couldn't have cared less. In front of them was a jet with the words Stark Industries printed on the side. Never before had Wanda been so glad to see something with Stark's name on it.
"Avengers?"
A man stepped into view and Wanda eyed him warily. Natasha stepped forward with a nod, though, and Wanda didn't sense any ill intent behind his words.
"Welcome back," he said. He turned and motioned for them to follow him on board.
Wanda had never been on one of Stark's planes, but she wasn't surprised by what she saw. The inside was decorated as extravagantly as his penthouse and the Compound. The chairs looked softer than anything Wanda had sat on in a year. Without waiting for permission, she hurried over to one by a window and sat down.
"It's so nice," she muttered, sinking into the chair with a happy sigh.
She heard Steve chuckle but seconds later, she heard someone else sit down and Sam sighed in relief. When she opened her eyes, Sam was sitting across the aisle from her and Steve and Natasha were taking two seats in front of her. The man from outside follower them in and walked into the cockpit.
"We'll be taking off shortly," he told them before disappearing.
Wanda didn't care how long 'shortly' really was. She was more than willing to remain in the plane seats until she died. It had been an entire year since she'd sat on anything as nice as these seats. Yes, Stark had his faults, but he sure did know the meaning of comfort.
