Loving you was like staying up late on a school night,

I knew I would regret it in the morning but I did it anyways.

Like dipping your toe in the water to test the temperature, 

Too chicken to jump in, but I just had to check it. 

Loving you was like reading your favorite line in a poem,

But messing up the words.  

Like finding the end of a rainbow, and discovering there was never any gold. 

Like looking for the stars on a cloudy night. 

Hopeless.

But I had to try.
