Chapter Thirteen

MARELLA'S POV

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her.

Sophie.

She was peering around the bush at us, and I could see the anger and dissapointment in her eyes. There was no mistaking it when I saw a tear slip down her cheek.

I knew that I shouldn't feel bad. It was her fault, after all. But I couldn't help feeling terrible, like I was a bad friend.

Correction-no-I AM a bad friend.

The released Fitz's lips, and motioned for him to turn around.

He saw Sophie and she saw him. I watched as their eyes met and Sophie turned around and ran away.

" Fitz." I said. " Go after her. She needs you. You need her. Not me."

Fitz looked at me with a queer expression, but nodded briskly and jumped up, running after Sophie. I sighed and looked at the rock, which now had become a cold surface. I missed the warmth of Fitz's body and his lips meeting mine. But I was sure I had done the right thing. And that was all that really mattered.

SOPHIE'S POV

I saw him running after me. He was chasing me. I could escape him. So I slid to a stop, and he ran up beside me.

" Soph, we need to talk," He gasped.

I narrowed my eyes at him. " So you can tell me why you were kissing Marella?" I snapped. I turned away, but he grabbed my elbow.

" I don't like Marella. I mean I do, but ONLY as a friend. I like YOU, Sophie. I LOVE you. I just wanna know why you were kissing my best friend."

Some of my anger melted away. But some still remained. " He did it. Keefe started it. One minute I was yelling at him, the next our lips were together." I explained. " And I guess you were kissing Marella because you wanted to get back at me?"

Fitz nodded. " Please, Sophie," He whispered, " Can we be together again? And forget about this whole night?"

I thought for a minute. My eyes locked with Fitz's. Our heads grew closer and closer, like it was our first kiss ever. Right before our lips touched however, I whispered, " I won't let go of you ever, Fitz Vacker. I will always be true to you."  And then our lips touched. His lips were so soft, like a cloud. I never wanted to let go, but I knew it was late. We released, smiled at each other, and hooked arms. And then we marched to bed.

And right before I fell asleep, a wonderful idea came into my head.

KEEFE'S POV

Wonderboy. Golden Boy. I found it hard to sleep that night. I knew Fitz and Sophie were making up somewhere, kissing, and then going to bed. Together. And tomorrow we were all going home. I had missed my chance to get Sophie. I had failed. And I felt terrible. My last attempts had been nothing but trouble. And nothing but trouble was what had happened to me all over this weekend.

You failed you failed, My head whispered as I tried to fall sleep.

But late in the night, my brain was too tired to whisper anymore. And I fell asleep.

The next morning when I arrived to breakfast, I found a smiling couple laughing and joking at the table.

Fitz and Sophie were the only ones there.

When they saw me sit down, they looked up.

" Dude, what happened to your hair?" Fitz asked me.

I reached up and felt the tangled mess. When I looked at Fitz perfectly combed hair, I felt even worse.

Gee, I was so miserable I couldn't even remember to brush my own hair? Wow, was I really off track today.

Within five minutes everyone else had come down for breakfast. All of them were laughing and smiling, except for Marella. After we had finished eating and were heading out of the dining room, an idea and much needed emotions struck me.

" Marella," I said and grabbed her elbow.

She looked up at me with a weird expression painted across her face, but obliged when I pulled her into the gardens.

" What?" She asked. " What, Keefe?"

I ran a hand through my messy hair. " As you may know, things aren't going to work out for me and Sophie."

" Sokeefe?" She grinned at me.

I laughed. " Yep. So I was thinking, maybe WE could work something out?" My emotions were getting stronger and stronger by the second. As Marella stood there staring at me, I blurted out, " I want you, Marella."

She stood, stunned. " K-Keefe, uh, YES!" She threw her arms around me. I grinned and hugged her back. She looked up at me and I kissed her lips. Yes, I was an expert at kissing. And I knew Marella was the right girl for me.

FITZ'S POV

Sophie had told me her idea right as soon as we both had woken up. For our last day, she wanted to bring ALL of us to Disney Land. And I had said it was a great Idea.

" Guys!" Sophie cried as we all gathered together in the Everglen gardens. I noticed Keefe and Marella standing side by side, holding hands. So maybe they HAD worked out something after all.

" So, I was thinking, for our last day, we could go to Disney Land!" Sophie was practically squealing.

" You mean MY land?" Dex blurted. " That would be........awesome!" He grabbed Linh's hand and kissed it, then held it firmly. I watched as Linh's knuckles turned whiter.

" Uh, Dex," I pointed out, " I think you are holding Linh's hand too tight."

" Oops." Dex loosed his grip. " Sorry, Linh. Can we go now?"

Sophie and I exchanged a glance. " Sure," She replied. " I have it all settled out with della and Alden." She helped a pathfinder to the light. " Away we go!" She called.
