At bay
Four feet were dangling above the surface of Sootopolis' enclosed lake.
Both pairs were bare, but only one was eventually touching the water, disturbing the calm moves of the lake, and creating little waves, coming from where feet and water touched.
Interestingly enough, the white leg pants that were worn over the legs that were connected to these feet weren't rolled up, unlike the black pants of the other person.
There was a relieved sigh coming from the turquoise-haired man whose feet are now swinging through the cool wet. He closed his eyes and tilted his head a tiny bit back.
His companion, the one who was pretty keen on not getting his clothes wet, watched him, with a soft smile on his face.
Not only has he rolled up the sleeves of his slacks, but also the sleeves of his white shirt, and he has taken off his blazer and cravat. But he couldn't just take off his vest. At least he unbuttoned it, alongside with the first two buttons of his shirt.
How often has he been told by the turquoise-haired man that he has a horrible stale sense of fashion?
He can't blame the man though. There is no doubt that he – even though he lets his clothes get wet – has a much richer taste regarding fashion than the other.
At one point, the turquoise-haired man noticed that he's being watched, "Has something beautiful caught your eyes, my love?"
His companion chuckled quietly. It's a soft sound.
"Yes, in fact, it's even more beautiful than anything I've ever seen."
"Even more beautiful than any of your rocks?"
They laughed together about that light-hearted joke, before they fell into soothing silence.
It has sort of become a ritual for them to sit there, together, and calm down after an exhausting day, although they lately have started to go there on good days too.
"So," the turquoise-haired man asks, "has she beaten you?"
The man with the vest nodded, and breathed heavily out, "She was great. Metagross and the others gave it their everything, but she was just too strong."
Now the other man nodded, agreeing with him, "When I battled her, I could already sense that she wasn't going to be an easy challenger for you. That trainer is going places."
It was the vest man's turn to nod again.
"Well then, when are you going to go on your next grand rock collecting tour, now that you are free from your previous duties, ex-champion?"
He earned a sigh and an amused headshake.
"I can't just leave," said ex-champion explained, "she can't take care of everything yet, so I'll have to be by her side."
He let another, even bigger sigh out, "Plus, my father needs me too, right now. Work's getting busy again."
His turquoise-haired companion understood his reasoning. After all, they have known each other for such a long time now, he knows just too well about all the duties and jobs the man in the vest has.
Mr. Ex-Champion grinned then, though, and nudged the other man, "And I can't just leave you either."
He took a hand, kissed it and intertwined their fingers.
Their smiles were just as soft and full of love as if it was that day that they confessed their love for the other and not three years ago.
With their heads leaning on each other, and their eyes closed, each of the two thought of the man right next himself.

Maybe it's the fact that Alec sings about stars and water or maybe it's just the vibe of the song, but I just can't stop associating this song to the pair.
(In case the song disappears again: I'm talking about "Found you first" from Alec Benjamin)
Btw, my cover app still doesn't save my designs like it should, so I always have to take a Screenshot, so, idk anymore.
See ya! :)
