Chapter 4: Family
Adria POV
"Damn it"
I shook my head trying to wake up. I sat up instantly feeling heavy. Looking around I seemed to be in my room. What happened? I remember seeing Luna and fighting her but that's it.
"You wake?" I heard my bother talking to me through the hole in the wall. He doesn't sound like himself. Is he tired or something?
"Donni, what happened?"
I heard him coughing, "you were drugged and brought back here."
"How long ago was this?" I leaned on the wall.
"About two maybe three days."
Damn it. I heard him coughing again. "Are you okay?"
He didn't answer. Worried, I opened my door and went next door to his room. I saw him leaning against the wall next to the hole. He looks sick.
"Donner, what happened to you?"
Running over to him I tried to hold him up and helped him to his bed.
"He's been worrying about you." I look to the side and saw his roommate.
"So why does he look like this?"
He laughed a little, "he's been worried so much that he didn't eat the last three days. He wanted to make sure you were okay. He told me if you died he's going with you."
I looked at Donner and saw how pale he was. "Donni you idiot." I hit him and he just laughed at me.
"Sorry," he smiled for a second then began throwing up.
When he stopped I made sure he was looking at me.
"I want you to stay with me okay. I'll be right back."
He nods his head and I run off to the lunch room. I guess it just started there are way too many people here. I cut in line and got a plate. Walking back with my plate... well I don't know if you will call it a plate. It was a bowl of soup with stale bread on the side, which was supposed to be used as crackers.
When I entered his room he was throwing up again. The smell didn't bother me this place smells worse than anything. I placed his plate to the side and rubbed his back until he stopped puking.
"Donni I need you to eat this." I held out the spoon and waited for him to take it but he didn't.
"I'm fine." Yeah right. I scooped up some soup in the spoon and brought it to his mouth.
"Open."
He slowly opened his mouth. I put the spoon into his out. As he eats the soup his face looked like he eat six sour balls of candy at once.
"Look I know it's bad but it can help you stay alive."
He took another spoonful. Slowly but surely he finished his soup. I still think he needs more so I went off to get more food. While in the hallway I saw the big ugly clock.
"Shit."
Lunch is almost over. I ran down the hall bumping everyone as I run. I saw people leaving and no one entering the lunchroom. Please don't let me be too late. I need to get him something to eat. I went into the lunch room and saw we had two minutes until lunch was over. The line was too long and they didn't have enough staff to pass out the food.
I don't like anyone here. So I guess I have to take it. One of the patents were walking passed me. I saw he had food so I snatched his plate from him. On it was a sandwich with an old apple and an empty cup. He tried to take it back but I kicked him in his balls. The bell rang and I made my way to Donner as quickly as I could. I entered the room and saw Donner laying down shaking. Shit, I knew that soup wasn't going to help him.
"Donner eat this"
I split the sandwich in two and placed it near his mouth so he would eat it. He didn't. He just looks at me.
"Donni, big brother. I need you to take this."
He shook his head, "I'm fine, princess."
He tried to touch me. His hand was shaking like an old man.
"You not fine eat it." I push the sandwich to his mouth.
"Hay what are you doing?" There was a doctor on the other side of the open door yelling at me.
"Boys and girls are supposed to be in separate rooms. I don't care if your sibling's rules are rules." He walked into the room angrily heading straight for me.
He grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the room and into mine. He then threw me in smalled the door and locked it. I stood up and ran towards the door banging on it, begging him to let me out but he wouldn't. I ran to the hole in the wall.
"Donni are you okay? Did you eat it?"
"He's sleeping" his roommate answered.
"Please make sure he eats his food."
He said he would. I felt my heartbeat for the first time today and it was going so fast that it hurts. I didn't want to move so I stayed next to the hole. I'll stay here until I can hear his voice. The bells ring after about three maybe four hours. My heart finally calmed down but my worries were through the roof.
"I guess it's time for dinner."
I walked to the door to see if it was unlocked, it was. Opening the door I walked to Donner's room next to mine to make sure he was okay. He was still sleeping, I think. I walked over to him and tried to check to see if he was. It was hard to tell since he was sleeping face down into his mattress. I didn't see him moving, he didn't snore and he wasn't a restless sleeper.
I pushed him a few times to wake him up. I kept praying that he wasn't dead. When he finally woke up after me hitting him and pushing him for five minutes, I hugged him and helped him out of bed.
"How are you feeling?"
He still couldn't stand up on his own without losing his strength.
"I'll manage," He said as he tried to straighten up.
With the help of his roommate, we brought him to the lunchroom and sat him down. His roommate is named Zac. He told me this as we sat him down. I think I heard of that name before. Zac walked away and I waited in line for food. After getting our plates I walked back over to him. His head was down on the table as his arms dangled like noodles.
"Donner." I sat the plates down and lift his head. "You need to eat."
Today we had ground beef. Well, it's supposed to be that. But it still moves some and it's kind of black. So it's either still alive or burned. I picked up a fork and got a piece of ground beef on it and moved it to his mouth.
"Open" he opened his mouth a little and I pushed it in.
He eat it and we continued to do this until his food was gone. I eat some of my food and gave him the rest.
"What happened to him?"
I looked up and Jezebeth was looking at Donner worried.
"He hasn't eaten in a few days and lost all of strength. So I'm helping him."
She sat down next to us. "Can I help?" She rubbed his back.
"No!" I pulled her hand off his back. There's no way I'm letting her hurt him again. Donner sat up on his own but was still shaking.
"I'm fine there's no need to worry." He yawns.
Andrew POV
I know it's dinner time and it's dark outside but I need to walk around. As I was walking around the building I could see they added more security cameras and lights outside. I needed to clear my mind and think.
If my parents wanted me or even believed me they would have come for me by now or at least called. But they didn't. Do they not love me? Did they want me out of there lives for good? Why did this have to happen to me? I shook my head and my shoulder hits someone in the process.
"I-I-I'm so sorry. I wasn't--".
It was a girl. She had short red hair and brown eyes. She looked a bit mad at me as if telling me to get out of her face.
"Sorry" I tried to walk away.
"Do I know you?"
Did she just speak to me? I turned around a looked at her.
"Do I know you?" She stepped a little closer to me.
She did talk to me.
"No, no I don't think so." I continued to walk and to clear my mind. That was strange. Something had a hold of my right arm.
"My name is Emberly. What's yours?" It was the girl I bumped into.
"Andrew"
She smiled at me as I told her my name. She seemed nice but she was just looking at me as if she wanted to kill me. Everyone here has been put into this Asylum for a reason. Some were meant to be here others were not and until I find out which one she is I need to keep my guard up.
"So tell me about yourself" she tightened her grip on my arm.
"Well, I've been here for a little over three months now."
"Do you have any friends?" she asked as she bounced a little.
"No, not really." I tried to get her to let go of my arm but she wouldn't.
"Can I be your friend?" I felt her nails dig into my arm.
"Ouch!"
She let go for a moment but continued to hold my arm. "Sorry."
The bell rang telling us that dinner was over and it was time to get back into our rooms.
"Well, it's time to go. It was nice meeting you Emberly."
I moved my arm from her and walked back to the building as quickly as I could. I would look back just to make sure she wasn't going to pop out and scare me. I finally made it to my room and sat on the bed.
"Hey," Andy said in a low voice.
"You're okay?"
"Yeah. The meds are wearing off some but I'm here." He was lying down on his bed looking up at the ceiling. "What happened to you?"
I laughed a little, "Nothing much.... is everyone here insane or is it just a selected few?" I heard doors closing in the hallway.
"Only a few of them. Why? Who did you meet? I know a lot of people here I can tell you if they can be trusted or not." He said as he looked at me.
I scratched my head as our door closed and the nurse had a smirk on her face.
"Her name was Emberly. I bumped into her outside and she just sank her nails into me as she asked a bunch of questions."
"Emberly." He quickly sat up." You mean Ember. Don't trust her. She has this switch that can go from crazy girlfriend to killer like that." He snapped his fingers. "There was one guy that was really friendly to her and when she saw him talking to another girl patient she lost it. She beat him with a pipe. It happened not so long ago actually." He looked back at the ceiling.
Well damn.
"There was another time she bit a nurses ear off because she thought she was going to kill her. She was only walking by pushing someone in a wheelchair. When they asked her why she did it she said she saw the future and saw the lady trying to kill her." He added.
She is crazy.
"She's from the West building. Rumor has it that she has a secret crush on Donner."
"Who?" Who is he talking about and what kind of a name is Donner?
He turned his head towards me in shock. "Donner. You don't know him?"
I shook my head no.
"He's like the king of the West building and his twin sister Adria is like a princess. Whatever she wants he gets."
So she's a spoiled brat.
The door opened and in came two nurses. One man one female.
"It's time for your bedtime medications Andy."
The man pinned Andy down while the woman put the medicine in his mouth. He spits out the pills a few time but the last time they covered his mouth and forced him to take it. When he finally swallowed the pills they left the room.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah" he rubbed his throat. "Its just my sleeping medicine it takes a while for it to kick in tho." He cleared his throat. "Just stay away from her okay. You get her you get the twins."
The next day
It was almost lunchtime and I was walking around the building. This is what I do now. When I'm bored or not eating I walk around the building until I feel like eating or going to sleep. I don't like living like this.
"I know."
Who's that? I heard a girl's voice. She sounds familiar. I walked towards the voice as it continued to talk.
"I'm fine... the same as always... don't worry about it."
I turned down the corner and saw that girl again. She's always with Ben. I wonder where he is. I looked around the hallway just to make sure he doesn't attack me or anything as I made my way closer to her.
"I told you in fine... no, I don't want to talk to her... I don't care."
She looks sad. I stood a few feet away from her and I guess she noticed me.
"I have to go," she hung up the phone. "So you're eavesdropping now." She's mad.
"No, I didn't mean to. I was just walking around and--" I tried to explain but she cuts me off.
"You know what I don't even care anymore."
Is that a good thing or bad? She was about to walk away when I opened my big mouth.
"Are you okay?"
"Leave me alone." She turned around and yelled at me. She then grabbed my shirt and got in my face. "Don't mention this to anyone."
"Mention what?"
She rolled her eyes. "Just don't" she walked away.
"Okay?"
"Good!" she yelled at me as she continued to walk.
I made my way to the lunchroom and looked around for a seat. I saw this girl eating by herself at the table. She looked like she was crying. I grabbed a plate and walked over to her. I don't know why I'm trying to be nice today but.. I can't stop it.
"Hi." I smiled at her. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes and some falling down her cheeks. "You're that girl... Beth."
She was talking to Ken when he came into my room.
"Do I know you?"
" I'm sorry. May I sit down?"
She looked at but confused to hear me ask this.
"Umm sure I guess."
I sat on the other side of the table facing her. "My name is Andrew. Andrew Parton." I held my hand out for her to shake it. She was hesitant as she wiped her tears away. "I don't bite." I smiled to show her I'm not going to do anything. She shook my hand and smiled back at me.
"Jezebeth Tanner. Just call me Beth."
I picked up my spoon about to eat some of my soup.
"So how did you know me?"
"Well Ken came into my room some time ago and you came to get him for something."
"You mean the night he tried to escape. Yeah.... yeah, I remember now." Did I just make a friend or something?
"So what can I do for you?" She was playing with her food now.
"I just wanted to know what was wrong. You looked a little sad."
"I did?" She stops playing with her food.
"Yeah."
She looked up at the ceiling. "I need to stop practicing in public."
Practicing? "What do you mean by practicing?"
She took her bread and broke it up in tiny pieces. "You see I'm not that good with talking to people. They say I don't show any emotions when I talk a lot. I'm like a blank wall sometimes. So I've been practicing what faces go well with a emotion."
Okay, I guess. A hand slammed on the table next to me. I looked up and saw Ben with a creepy smile.
"So what are you two talking about?"
He pushed me over and sat in my spot.
"Nothing much," I said as he began eating my food.
"How you two been? Good, I hope." That smile was still on his face.
This doesn't feel right. Is he going to attack me?
