Chapter 21: Dinner Time

We walked downstairs Rachel in front and me behind her. She was still mad but she has it in check. Well, I hope she does. We entered the Dining room and saw the food was already on the table waiting for us.

We sat side by side and so did her parents. I was in facing her father and she was facing her mother. The table could sit about ten people but tonight it was only sitting four.

The first thing I did was look at Rachel. I had to make sure she was still okay. She was, I think. She was staring at her food with a blank look on her face. This can either go from bad to our lives are in danger if someone says the wrong things tonight. And I pray that no one does.

I saw her mother was smiling from ear to ear like a crazy mad person and her father was talking to the Cook. Once he finished he took his cup and drunk some of the water that was in it. It felt very tense in this room. It was even weighing me down for some reason. After about ten minutes her father broke the silence.

"So umm," he was trying to remember my name.

"Andrew."

"Yes, Andrew. How do you know Rachel?"

I went to answer but Rachel did it for me.

"I saved him."

"What do you mean saved him? What happened that caused him to be needing saving?" He asked with a confused look on his face.

She took a bite of her food and with her mouth fool, "Don't worry about it." For some reason, I thought this was cute.

I looked at her father and smiled, "A patient tried to attack me."

"Why would that person do that?" he looked really concerned.

"Its no big deal. Everyone did it there. Especially when they felt threatened or bored." I said with a smile.

Her father looked even more confused than before. I looked at Rachel and she was pissed off that I said that. I winked at her and began eating my food. Then her parents started to eat but her mother like a fucking weirdo was watching Rachel the whole time.

It was once again quiet for the moment. And once again her father broke the silence.

"Is this place...Safe?"

I laughed a little, "Safe?... Yeah, safe as a prison."

That place was an asylum, of course, it wasn't safe.

"is that a Joke?" He asked.

"Yes .... It was a joke."

He looked relieved and began drinking his water.

I added, "prison would have been better tho."

He began choking on the water.

His wife pats him on the back, "are you alright?"

He coughed a few more times. "I'm fine."

His wife looked at me, "let's change the topic."

Rachel leans forward, "Fine. How about we find out why you hate me so much."

Her mother laughed, "I don't hate you. I love you."

Rachel took a deep breath. She placed the fork that she had in her hand down and held her hands together. Then in a split second, her voice changed.

"I love you too."

The tone she used was the same tone she had at the Asylum. I don't know what encouraged me to look around but I did. I had to see if Ben was going to come out of nowhere like last time. She hit my shoulder as I looked around.

I looked at her as I rubbed my shoulder, "He's not here stupid."

Oh, that right she got rid of him. "

What are you two talking about?" Her mother asked.

"Superman. He's not here. If he was he would save me from talking to you."

Her father and I couldn't help but laugh. Her mother snapped her head and looked at her husband. He stopped laughing.

Her mother looked at us and smiled, "Did you enjoy yourself at the Asylum?"

Is this Monster serious? Both Rachel and I stopped eating and her. She looked at us as if she said nothing wrong.

"What?"

I can see why Rachel hates her.

"Yeah, we had fun. We played tag with the Doctors and nurses," Rachel said.

"We wrestled with the police," I added.

"We took turns getting drugged" she balled up her fist.

I remembered the dodgeball, "We were science experiments."

She yelled, "WE FOUGHT FOR OUR LIVES EVERY DAY."

And together we said, "Yeah we had fun."

Rachel stood up and left the table. I went behind her and left the dining room too. She walked to her room not knowing I was behind her. She tried to slam the door but I stopped it.

She looked at me almost pouting. "Really, I was trying to be dramatic."

I laughed, "I think what we did downstairs was enough."

That night no one came and checked on us. No one wanted to see if we were fine or apologies. We just stayed in our rooms. I tried to sleep in the same room as Rachel but she refused.

Can blame a guy for trying.
