Chapter 20: Lets Begin
My mother looked at Andrew still with that smile ready to crack any moment, "are you a friend of Rachel's?"
He looked at me then back at her. "Something like that."
My father came closer to us. He held out his hand for Andrew to shake.
"It's nice to meet you and I hope you two are good friends."
I don't know why but just hearing him say that made me embarrassed. It's been a while since I felt that way. They shook hands.
"Do you and your parents live around the neighborhood?"
"I don't know. I tried to see them but they moved." And explained.
"Well, you're welcome to stay with us. We have plenty of rooms." My father said with the big smile.
"Thank you."
A phone in another room starts to ring. "Excuse me I'll be right back."
My mother walked up to Andrew. She whispered loud enough for me to hear as well, "You two will be out of her in a week."
I laughed a little, "funny, I was going to say the same thing to you."
We stared at each other for a moment before she walked away. Once she left the room it was only Andrew and me in the living room.
I stood in front of him, "Do you really want to stay here?"
He smiled, "I told you. I'm never going to leave you alone. B-but not in a creepy way."
I laughed a little. "Thank you."
"You just--"
I cut him off, "Don't get excited." I rolled my eyes at him and walked away.
Andrew POV
Most of the day was mainly spent waiting in our rooms watching these guys that he hired to bring in new clothes for us to wear. I know we've worn the same clothing since we stole them but do I really need a closet full of new clothes.
I changed clothes after taking a hot shower. I never thought I would miss hot water but after that shower, I felt like I was in heaven. I threw on a random t-shirt with a jean jacket and pants to match. I want to see Rachel so I snuck out of my room to find hers. I tried five different rooms and still nothing.
"Man he wasn't kidding when he said they had 'plenty' of rooms."
Walking back down the hall giving up on searching for her I placed my hand on the doorknob thinking it was my room but to my surprise, it wasn't. When I opened the door I saw Rachel standing in front of a mirror. She was wearing a white mini dress. Her hair was curled half up half down. I'm not sure what type of shoes but I know they were heels.
She looked back at me, "What?"
"You look pretty."
Just looking at her made my heart race.
She cut her eyes and looked back into the mirror, "shut up."
I couldn't help but smile at her. "I'll take that was a thank you." I want everyone to see how beautiful she is but I don't want other guys looking at her. Making my way over to her bed I sat down on it and looked around. She had a few photos on the wall and a lot of stuffed animals.
"Why so many?"
She was fixing her hair in the mirror, "some of them I had when I was little. Others are birthday gifts from my father every year I was in the Asylum."
"How do you know they are from him?" I walked closer to her bed.
"They all had a card on them with his name and date." I took the card off the nearby bunny and opened it.
"To my beautiful moon. I hope you are happy and enjoying your birthday. Love Dad...."
I closed the card. Rachel was now sitting on the other side of the bed.
"See your father loves you."
She smiled at me. I can tell by her eyes it wasn't going to end well.
"If he loved me then he would have never lied to me all those years and sent me to that place."
"He thought you were sick. It's not his fault. It's your mother's." I said as I thought back on what he said.
"But why leave me there all those years? If he loved me he would have gotten me out despite what my mother was doing." She looked at the floor.
"Maybe she's making it hard for him."
"Maybe..."
Knock knock knock
She lays on the bed, "come in."
The door opened and in comes her father. "Dinner will be done in 15 Min."
Rachel didn't say anything. I looked at her then back at her father, "thank you." He left the room closing the door behind him.
Once the door closed I gently took her hand in mine. She looked at me still laying down on the bed.
"There must be a reason why he had to do that."
She looked away from me but I was still happy. I don't know why but I think it has something to do with her not pushing my hand away.
