Chapter 2: West building

"All I want is her dead. How hard could that be?"

I said to Donner as we walked outside. They wanted us to get some fresh air a few times a day so we walked around the building with guards, doctors, and nurses watching us from a distance.

"I told you it takes time." He said as he watched the guards.

I pushed him. "Well, time needs to hurry the fuck up."

Looking around I saw all of the buildings while we were walking. All of them look the same, the only difference is the letters mounted on them. Ours, of course, has West, the one to the right of us was the active slash lunchroom and to the right of that building was the East building. Above the lunchroom was North and below it was South. But below it, all, away from our sights was the 'fix' building. People go into that building and only a few come back.

"I heard that Ken died a couple of nights ago. Tried to escape again," he shook his head. "That's the twelfth time this week."

Ken was a friend of mine even though he's in the South building with Luna.

"What did he do this time?" I asked as the bells went off.

"He and some guys drugged the nurses at the building while the doctors were away. They tried to escape while they could. He and some new guy almost made it through."

He pointed to the gate.

"They were digging a hole. They eventually got caught and brought underground. The new guy was the only one that made it out. Lucky son of a bitch."

"Donni, language."

We laughed a little and walked back into the building. Since they had nothing planned for us to do we all walked around the buildings while under heavy surveillance.

"I'm bored," I said as I sat down in the hallway.

Donner whistled and two girls came over. One was shaking and scratching her arms the other looked like she was on drugs and losing her hair.

"She's bored do something about that." He said to them.

One girl pushed the other. She hit the wall and bit the other girl. And like always they began fighting.

"Boring," I looked away from them.

The nurses separated them and dragged them off somewhere.

"Hey, you two" he pointed to two guys at the end of the hall. "Come here."

They ran towards us as fast as they could. One, of course, fell in the process.

"Entertain my sister," Donner crossed his arms, "no fighting we are tired of seeing it."

They began yelling lame jokes. I banged my head on the wall.

"Leave," they stopped and ran off.

"I want something new or at least fun to do," I said as I looked around the hallway. I spotted a new girl at the end bottled up crying.

"Who's she?"

Donner looked at her, "don't know, don't care."

I smiled at him. "Good. Cover me."

He knew what I was going to do and nods his head. I stood up and looked at the girl down the hall. A smile came across my face as I thought of what might happen to her. glancing at my bother I saw he was smiling as well. Let the games begin. We made our way to the girl while clearing out the hallway in the process.

"Hi," I sat next to her. "I'm Adria. It's nice to meet you."

She stopped crying and looked at me. "Kim," she looked at her knees.

"You want to talk about it?" I said pretending to care about whatever the fuck she was crying about.

She shook her head. "No thank you."

"Why not?" I tilted my head to the side this time pretending to be upset.

"I heard the rumors. I know who you two are. No thank you."

She wiped her face and stood up. She then looked at us for a second and walked to a nearby room. I could see Donner getting mad. Without saying a word to each other we both walked into the room she was in and pushed her onto the bed. She began to scream but Donner put his hand on her mouth while I pinned her arms down.

"Look, I'm bored and I wanted to play. But you pissed him off. Now.... you're going to die."

Donner used his other hand and placed it on her throat. I saw his hand tightened as the veins appeared. She was turning red than blue as she tried to fight back.

Eventually, she stopped moving.

He slowly lets her go. We slowly got off the bed while looking at her laying there.

"You think she's dead?" I asked him.

"I'm not sure."

We stayed in the room waiting to see if she was alive or not. I thought she was dead. I mean we waited for what felt like forever. When we were about to leave she took a deep breath and sat up coughing on her bed.

"Damn it," I said as I looked at her gasping for air. Once she caught her breath she saw us and instantly got mad.

"Bastards," she placed her hand on her throat.

"I know right. I wanted you dead too," I said in a joking way.

We left the room not wanting to talk anymore. She followed us and tried to attack me. I pushed her away causing her to slip on the wet floor hitting her head on the water fountain. She laid there for a few moments. I wanted to see if she was getting up soon.

I saw blood coming from her head. She tried to sit up but was slipping on the wet floor. I laughed at the sight and continued to walk with my brother.

It was almost lunch when one of the doctors took me aside and asked us about what happened to Kim.

"She slipped on some water."

The doctor looks at me and wrote what I said down.

"Is that all that happened?"

"Can I eat now?" I really don't care for the food but I really don't want to be apart of the conversation more. He didn't say a word so I took that as a yes. As Donner and I began to walk away I heard him say...

"I'll just look at the surveillance cameras."

Stopping in my tracks I felt my heart drop. If I get in trouble again I'm sure they will kill me. Donner grabbed my arm and starts to pull it with a confused look. I told him I'll meet him in the lunch room.

If I get in trouble again I'll be killed. I can't die. Not before Luna. Donner looks at me than at the doctor.

"Go," I said to him in a low voice.

He nods his head and walked away leaving me behind. I'm not gonna lie. There was a part of me that was begging to stay and hoping he could hear me screaming that in my mind.

With my back facing him the doctor I heard him laughing. That laughing just made things worse.

"What is it going to take?" I asked as my back was still facing him.

The pin clicked, "The usual is fine."

The usual. I hate the usual. I hate anything that has to do with this man. I slowly turned around and looked at him in his disgusting face. He had a smirk on it. Then, my heart stopped as I thought about what he was smiling about.

For the past two in a half years, I've been sleeping with this man to make all of my records go away. He would force me to do things I'm not proud of. I was pregnant twice and since he was a doctor he could do what he wanted. I had one aborted and the other was a miscarriage due to all the medications I was taking.

"Fine," I said in a low voice. I have to do it. I can't die in this place. Not yet.

He licked his lips. As he walked over to me he grabbed my arm and pulled me to his office. Pushing me, he closed the door and quickly locked it. I really don't want to do this. I look around the room for something to protect myself with. I saw a computer, some papers, a few pins, magnets and a pair of scissors.

I guess I have no choice.

I turned around and looked at the doctor. I saw him taking off his shirt.

"Get ready," he yelled at me and pushed me onto his desk.

"You don't have to push me."

He grabbed my throat. "And you don't have to take all day."

He opened my shirt and began kissing my chest. I hate when he does this. It makes me feel worse than I already feel. I slowly moved my left arm towards the scissors on the desk. He tried to unhook my bra.

"I don't want to do this anymore." I grabbed the scissors and made sure I had a good grip on it.

He looked at me then violently kissed me. "You have no choice." He forced me to lay on the desk and pulled my pants.

"No," I yelled panicking.

I swung the scissors at him trying to scare him. But I didn't need to scare him. The scissors I swung hit the side of his head. I let go of them and they were still in his head.

"Fuck," I said as his body fell to the ground.

I didn't mean to kill him. Well, not yet. Just to scare him.

"Okay, Okay," I killed a Doctor. That's new.

If the other staff finds out I'm definitely dead. I looked around for surveillance cameras and didn't find any. Okay, now I need a place to hide him.  I looked around the only thing I found was a tall cabinet in the corner of the room.

Dragging his body across the room, "Man he weighs a ton."

I then used all my strength, forcing him into the cabinet, and locked it with one of his locks.

"Okay, okay, he's dead. Now to get out of here."

I went to the door and unlocked it. As I slowly opened it I looked around outside to see if anyone was coming. I didn't see anyone but heard someone coming my way. Closing the door, I ran over and hid under his desk. The door opened than closed. I didn't hear any more footsteps so I peeked around the desk.

"Hi."

"Shit!" I placed my hand over my heart as I stood up. "You scared me," It was Donner. Thank goodness.

He was standing there with a confused look on his face.

"What?"

He pointed to my chest. "Your shirt."

I looked down and saw that it was still open. "Fuck." I turned around and fixed my shirt.

"Did he--"

"I took care of it." I cut him off knowing what he was about to say.

"Where is he?" He looked around the room and I pointed to the cabinet.

"He was blackmailing me with my flies. One more and I could end up dead."

Donner continued to look around the room, "Well let's find them and burn them."

We look in the other cabinets and in his desk for our files. As we searched I noticed that the computer was unlocked. I pulled up a chair and went through it. I found the surveillance cameras footage. I thought only security had access to it. I deleted them all for as far back as it could go, shut them all down, unplugged the computer and poured his coffee all over the system.

Donner found the files on the floor. He used the match he found in the desk to set the files on fire in a trash can.

"You ready to go?" He asked me.

I nod my head and we ran out of the room and made our way back to the hallway, acting like nothing happened. After about two minutes the fire alarm went off and we all had to evacuate the building. Well some of us did. The staff here didn't give a damn.

The police were doing their jobs trying to get everyone out until they realized what we were. To them we were no better than criminals on death row. We were now outside looking as people were leaving the building.

"I hope he went with it," Donner said under his breath.

"I hope so too."

Once the fire was put out we all had to line up in a row. One of the policemen were standing in front of us.

"Someone here started the fire." He looked around at all of us. "Is anyone going to tell me who?"

No one answered. This continued for about thirty minutes until he gave up. We stayed outside as the policemen and doctors talked.

"Look, I deleted and shut down all the surveillance cameras," I whispered to my brother.

"How do you know how to do that?" He knows I don't know that much about computers. Heck, I was only twelve when we got here. The only thing I knew how to work was a microwave.

"That bastard likes to brag and there was a how-to sticky notes on the computer." I looked at the policemen. "I'm not sure how long this will last though."  Looking past the policemen and I saw that there was a fight going outside the North building. The police stopped their conversation and ran over to break it up.

"I didn't just burn ours. I took a few others out so it wouldn't look too suspicious." He whispered to me as we began walking.

"Good," it started to rain again. "Great!" We ran into the building and walked around the place. Some of the nurses were giving me dirty looks.

Donner POV

I was walking down the hallway with my sister when I saw Ember beating up some guy with a pipe. The nurses tried to stop her but she had a weapon and they were too afraid to approach her with it in her hands.

Ember is her nickname here at the Asylum. Her name is Emberly. It didn't sound right to me so I take off the Ly. The guy she was beating is dead for sure and now she is swinging the pipe at the nurses. I looked around the hall to try and find a way to help her. Finding a light switch I flipped the switch and the lights in the hallway went out.

"What the fuck,"

"someone grab her."

"I can't see."

No duh. Man, they just hire anyone here.

I heard running footsteps getting closer to me and a pipe hitting the ground. Once the footsteps were gone I grabbed my sister and snuck out of the building.

"Where are we going?" She asked me.

This is the perfect time to get her what she wanted or at least try. I opened the doors to the building. "You want her dead right?"

She smiled at me and grabbed my hand. While running towards South building in the rain, I remembered the last time she actually smiled at me like this. It was five years ago before we came to this shit hole.

We were twelve then, didn't have a care in the world. Our parents loved us and we were rich. I was playing with my Xbox while Adria was practicing her gymnastics thing In the backyard. My dad wanted me to go and watch her to make sure she doesn't hurt herself while he and my mother gets the food ready.

I agreed and watched her flipping through the air. She was good at backflips but front ones she would always fall on her face. She would cry, I would give her her favorite candy, she would eat it and try flipping again and again. It took a few hours for her to get it and once she did she had the biggest smile on her face. She was jumping up and down screaming I did it.

She hugged me then tried to do it a few more times so she wouldn't forget it. Once she was used to it I saw that it was getting dark so we walked back inside.

"Mom dad guess what I did?" Adria screaming out as we walked through the back door.

'Bang' 'bang,'

We both screamed and ran under the table.

"You're alright baby?"

That was mom's voice. Then I heard grunting.

"Mommy?" Adria screamed out.

'Bang' 'bang,'

It sounded like it was coming from the staircase. It would stop for a few moments then start again.

'Bang' bang' bang,'

Adria was now crying holding her knees as I wrapped my arms around her. Once it completely stopped we moved from under the table and went to search for them. Our walls were destroyed, so was our staircase, family photos hallway and back rooms. There were holes everywhere. back then I didn't know what could cause it. Now I know. They had over twenty different guns and they were shooting each other with them. We found them in what used to be the living room.

"Hello, Mr. Smith," my mother then kicked my dad in the stomach.

"Hello, Mrs. Smith." my father punched my mom in her face.

They began wrestling on the ground.

"Mommy!" Adria yelled out.

" Not now princess mommy's busy," she grabbed a gun but dad kicked it away.

"Go upstairs kids." My dad looked at us with a smile.

He had a bloody face with torn up shirt and pants on. My mom was wearing her favorite black dress. It was always beautiful on her, but then it was ripped up dirty and didn't look like something a mother should wear around her kind.

My mom kicked my dad in the balls causing him to fall down. They took what looked like swords off the wall and thrusting it at each other. I covered Adria's eyes. I don't know what came over me. Something just told me to do it. I'm glad I did. As I looked at my parents  I could see the swords go through their bodies and blood dripping down.

"Donner.... Donner!!!"

I heard someone scream my name. I shook my head forcing myself to focus on what's happening. It was still raining and I was on the side of the South building. I felt someone shake me. Looking down I saw Adria with her hands on my shoulder looking a bit confused.

"Where's your head?"

I scratched my head. "I don't know," I said jokingly.

"We'll find it. How are we going to get in this place without getting caught?"

I looked around the side of the building looking for a box. The box is the source of the main power. Destroy the box, we have our way in, right?  I found one but it had a lock on it.

I moved the lock examining it, "well great. Now what?" I tried to think of another plan.

As I did Adria began to kick the lock.

"That's not gonna---," I heard sirens going off but it wasn't coming from the South building. Where is it coming from? I looked towards East building and saw some patients getting out. Shit. The staff is now running around trying to catch them. They might think we're one of them if we don't act soon.

"Plan B?"

She stopped kicking the lock. "What's plan B?"

The South building alarms were now going off. In desperate times... "Go in, find her and get as much damage as we can." It's better than nothing. I'm not leaving her without a fight.

A smile came across her face as she nods her head. We ran through the front door of the South building. Luna was standing right in front of us with Ben. We were shocked to see her.  Well, It saved us some time.

"Looking for something?" Luna asked with her arms crossed. She smiled at Adria and me.

Looking around I noticed the staff here were already laid out. What were they planning?

"Answer her." Ben stepped forward and I punched Ben in the face causing him to take a few steps back.

He tackled me to the ground and we began fighting. I'm not sure what Adria was doing but I could hear her cursing. Ben continued to punch my ribs as I covered my face. I elbowed him in the eyes and rolled on top of him. After a while, some nurses came over from outside and broke up the fight.

"No no, let me go." Adria was screaming this while trying to get loose.

I looked around and saw that we were surrounded by Luna's rats in the hallway. I calmed down a bit but Adria didn't. I looked at Luna and saw that she only had a scratch on her cheek. Well, it's better than nothing.

"Fix her up." I heard one of the doctors say this and they dragged Adria away.

"No!!! No stop. Leave her alone. Don't do this." I began fighting the nurses trying to get close to her. They can't take her. Take me inside. That's all I could think of as they held me back.

She was too far away for me to reach her. She was still fighting and cursing at them in the process. I tried to go after her but she disappeared in the rain.

"You bastards," I looked around at everyone.

Ben had the biggest smile on his face.

"You think that's funny you freak? I'll be back, I'll be back," they began pulling me away from them. I was now outside of the building. The doors were still open, I could see Luna and her rats waving at me. This, of course, made me mad. I screamed as they dragged me to my room in the West building. Throwing me in hitting the floor I yelled,

"God damn it!" they slammed  my door

"where's my sister?" I screamed at the person on the other side of the door.

"She's being fixed." He walked away.

"You can't do this to her." I tried to open the door but it was locked. I kicked it, punched it and tried to break it down with my shoulder, nothing works.

"Calm down dude," I looked at where I heard the voice coming from and saw my roommate.

"Zac... Now's not a good time," I was pacing back an forth in my room.

"Just calm down and breathe."

Zac is younger than me. He could pass for a ten-year-old even though he's fifteen. He's here because his sister framed him for murder.

"I am calm." I was still walking back and forth.

"Well wearing yourself out won't bring her back faster. Do you want to be out cold when she gets back?"

I stopped walking and looked at him. This kid has only been in here for a year and he's already my voice of reason. I sat down and took a deep breath. An hour goes by and she's still not back.

"What if---," I tried to say something as my mind starts to think negative but he cuts me off.

"Don't think like that," Zac looked at me with a smile. "You'll see her again."

I laid back in my bed looking up at the ceiling, "I hope so."

I closed my eyes and began to daydream. I was dreaming about what our lives would be like if we never came here. Would we be happy or would we just be the same but with foster parents? Before I knew it I was sleep.

A bell goes off as I was forced to wake up. I looked at the time and saw that it was dinner time. My door was unlocked and opened. Stepping out I looked in Adria's room and saw that she wasn't in it.

"Please don't be dead," I said as I looked at her empty bed.

Zac and I walked out of the building in a straight line with the other patients to the lunch room. It was still raining but I saw something heading our way. Someone was being pushed in a wheelchair.

"Adria!" I yelled making everyone look at me.

They got closer and I could see it was her. She was acting weird, twitching and spit dripping from the side of her mouth. I ran over to her and stopped the lady that was pushing the wheelchair.

"Adria, can you hear me?" I took her hand. "It's me, Donner. Your brother."

She was jumping and coughing.

"It's gonna be alright, princess," I fixed her hair a little.

" Get back in line." One of the nurses yelled at me.

I stepped aside letting the lady push the wheelchair in the building. I silently followed as she brought Adria to her room. They wouldn't let me in the room with her so I stayed in my room leaning on the wall next to the hole to make sure she was okay.

I could hear her saying weird things while either coughing or laughing. As I sat there I wondered.

"Why didn't they take me?"

I asked all alone in my room. I closed my eyes and saw Ben smiling in the back of my mind. That son of a bitch.
