Chapter Thirty Six

Enji stepped into Tira's room the morning they were to leave to meet Hawks. He spotted her already dressed in a pair of white leggings and a cute black dress sitting at her vanity struggling to figure out what to do with her hair. He resisted the urge to sigh. It was nice to see her acting so normal.

"Tira?" He called her name softly and grimaced as he saw her jump, startled by his sudden arrival. "...sorry..."

Tira looked over at him and smiled sheepishly as she realized she'd made him feel bad, "i-it's okay."

"We should be leaving soon...are you ready?"

Tira took one last look at her reflection in the vanity and let out a sigh, she had no idea what to do with her hair or what makeup products to use. "Yeah." She said somewhat dejectedly.

Enji frowned, he hadn't meant to rush her. He glanced at her vanity to all the things strewn about it and spotted two hair clips with little jeweled snow bunnies on them. Natsuo had gotten them for her at the festival they'd all gone to as a family. "W-what about those snow bunny clips?" He asked somewhat awkwardly. He knew absolutely nothing about fashion, perhaps it was a terrible suggestion.

Tira looked at the clips and smiled, they were cute. She picked one up and used it to pin some of her hair out of her face. She turned to him for his approval.

Enji smiled, "very cute."

Tira grinned and left her vanity. She gave him a quick hug before practically skipping to the door.

"Tira?" Enji called to her, causing her to pause at the door, "did your mother or sister already check you for bruises?" He asked.

She nodded.

"Alright. Then, we can go." He followed her out the door.

Rei met them at the front door. She smiled as she saw Tira with a bright expression on her face and held her arms open for her eldest daughter. "You look beautiful."

"Thanks Mom." Tira smiled and unconsciously touched the clip in her hair, "Dad picked out the clip."

Rei offered a smile to Enji, "he did a good job."

Tira giggled, "I agree."

Enji awkwardly cleared his throat feeling uncomfortable by their praise. "We shouldn't be gone too long. I'd like to be back in time for a late dinner."

Rei nodded, "alright, Fuyumi and I will have dinner ready by seven, will that be alright?"

Enji nodded, "that should be fine...thank you..." He was still learning how to talk to his family.

Rei gave Tira one last hug before reaching out to give Enji's hand a gentle squeeze in an attempt to reassure him that he was doing just fine but it would take time. He bowed his head to her before escorting Tira to the awaiting car.

"Tira, make sure you stay close to me today. Remember, I'm working, there could be danger." Enji reminded his eldest daughter as he saw her looking excitedly out the window of the cab they were taking from the airport after landing.

"Okay." Tira said softly. Her eyes lit up as she saw a few bright crimson feathers flitting about seemingly at random out the window. They moved to help people with various things, like carrying heavy things or keeping pets from running into traffic. Hawks was such a wonderful hero.

The cab came to a stop and Enji resisted the urge to start grumbling in anger as he spotted the cocky number two hero sitting atop the railing of the parking lot they'd agreed to meet at. He looked so smug, Enji wanted to say 'to hell with it' and turn around and go home. He chanced a glance at Tira and groaned inwardly as he realized he couldn't do that now. She'd spotted him and her entire face lit up with joy.

"Shall we-?" He began but his words fell away as a bright red feather opened her door for her and the suave number two hero extended a hand to her to help her from the car. Enji shot him a dark look as Tira blushed and placed her hand in his.

"Good afternoon, Ice Queen." Hawks lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.

Tira felt her heart start to race as she felt the brush of his lips across the back of her hand. Warmth spread from where he made contact all the way to her core. "G-good afternoon, Hawks." She replied in her soft sweet voice.

Enji got out of the other door and threw Hawks a scowl before paying the cab and sending it away. Hawks smoothly tucked Tira's arm into his, "Want to see the city?" He asked her with a smile.

"Is that okay?" Tira asked him unsure, "aren't you two working?"

"We can talk and tour." Hawks smiled.

Enji was about to interject that that was hardly efficient but caught himself as he realized Tira was happy. He threw a now murderous look at Hawks who visibly blanched and tore his gaze away from him.

"L-let's walk." Hawks gently pulled her along. He talked as he walked, addressing them both at different intervals. He pointed out cute things he thought Tira would be interested in and talked to Endeavor about more boring hero things all while his feathers flitted about all around them helping people as they went.

Tira was amazed as she watched him work. "Hawks, you're amazing." She smiled.

Hawks' cheeks reddened as the beautiful timid Ice Queen complimented him, "...thanks..." He replied in a daze before suddenly feeling as if his life was in danger. He turned to look behind him and nearly let out a panicked yelp as he saw Endeavor glowering at him, his beard flaring menacingly.

Fans approached them as they walked, wanting selfies or autographs. Hawks obliged politely but kept Tira close. A few fans gushed as they spotted her. "Oh my gosh! Is this the mystery princess?" One of the fans squealed upon seeing Tira.

"She's more like a Queen." Hawks corrected them with a smile that made them all swoon.

Tira felt her cheeks redden.

She glanced behind her as she realized she didn't sense her Father's presence and saw him approaching what appeared to be a fan. She smiled as she saw him try to reach a hand out in greeting. Perhaps Hawks would be able to help him with his fan image.

The boy suddenly screamed "Endeavor's changed!" And ran away crying leaving her father staring after him in confusion.

Tira managed to disentangle herself from Hawks' side and ran to her father. "Dad?"

Enji turned to her and pretended nothing had happened, "sorry for falling behind."

Tira frowned and slowly wrapped her arms around him, "it's okay for you to change, it just might take your fans some getting used to but they'll come back around, I'm sure of it." She offered him a reassuring smile.

Enji gave her a hug, "thank you."

"How about some lunch?" Hawks asked after finishing up with his fans.

Endeavor begrudgingly agreed. They soon found themselves in a restaurant near the top of a skyrise building that overlooked the whole city. Tira inched over to the window to look out at the city below as her father and Hawks talked about the Nomu sightings.

Tira spotted movement in the distance, something flying toward the city at an incredible speed. Before she could say anything, she felt strong arms encircle her waist and pull her away from the window. A moment later the window shattered.

Tira felt her heart race in her chest as Hawks cradled her in his arms, shielding her from the spray of broken glass.

"Tira?!" Enji panicked, it had all happened so fast he wasn't sure if Hawks had reached her in time.

"I got her." Hawks replied, his voice somewhat shaky as he held her tightly in his arms.

A strange creature stood amongst the broken glass and looked between the three of them, "which of you is strongest?"

"Hawks, evacuate the civilians, Tira help him...and Hawks...if anything happens to my daughter, you will pay." Enji growled angrily.

Hawks let out a tiny yelp. "Yep. Got it. I'll keep her safe."

Tira reluctantly went with Hawks as he began evacuating people from the building. She activated her quirk and created several swirling slides of ice from various windows for people to escape out of. Hawks looked at the ice slides in awe.

"Anyone ever told you how amazing you are, Ice Queen?" He asked her with a smile.

Tira blushed.

Something crashed into the building with such force everything shook. It was as if something had sliced clean through the building and it was starting to fall. Hawks sent his feathers out to pull people from the building. He reached for Tira but she held her hand up to stop him before closing her eyes. She exhaled and the breath that escaped her seemed to be filled with ice particles.

Hawks watched in awe as the entire room became encased in ice and supportive beams of ice stretched toward the ground managing to keep the structure standing. Tira swayed to her feet once the building was stable.

"Tira?" Hawks looked at her in concern as blood dripped from her nose.

"I-I'm okay. Get everyone else out." She slipped back to her knees needing a moment to catch her breath.

"Alright. I'll be right back." Hawks handed her a single crimson feather before taking off to finish getting the civilians to safety.

Once Tira caught her breath, she shakily got to her feet and rushed to the window as she saw her father fly past. She watched worriedly, he'd been fighting for a while now and using a lot of powerful moves, he was probably starting to overheat.

"Hawks, can you hear me?" She asked the feather in her hands.

It bristled.

"Can you bring this to my Dad?" She created a small shard of ice with a black core and touched it to the feather.

The feather took the piece of ice and zoomed off. Tira watched as it delivered it to her father. He smiled faintly as he realized she was trying to help him not overheat and clutched it to his chest.

Tira checked the rest of the broken portion of the building before heading for the lower levels to help evacuate the civilians.

She was glad to see people were using the ice slides she'd created and they were working effectively. As she darted into the stairwell, a hand lashed out and caught her by the wrist, another clapping over her mouth as she let out a scream. She found herself pressed up against a familiar lean torso.

"You're not supposed to be here." Her twin's voice breathed in her ear.

"Nii-chan?" Tira turned to her twin, he looked conflicted, there were so many emotions revealed in his teal eyes each one battling for control, anger seemed to be winning momentarily as his hand gripping her wrist tightened enough to cause her pain. "Ow. Nii-chan, that hurts." She winced.

Dabi didn't release her. He couldn't. He was too angry. Not at her, never at her, but Hawks. How could she let him get so close to her?

"Nii-chan!" Tira cried as she felt something in her wrist give.

Dabi gasped as he realized he'd hurt her and eased his grip, "sorry." I didn't mean to-."

Tira looked up at him with tear filled steel grey eyes. There was fear in her gaze.

"I told you, you don't ever have to be scared of me." His grip unconsciously tightened again.

Tira winced. "Okay! I'm not scared of you, please stop." She sniffled.

Dabi released her from his hold entirely and clenched his fists at his sides. He hadn't meant to do that, he'd never wanted to hurt her. "I'm sorry. Tira-."

"It's okay." Tira looked at her bruised wrist, she couldn't feel it anymore, now that he was no longer making contact with her but she had a feeling it was broken.

"It's not okay." Dabi ran a hand through his dark hair.

"I'm sorry for making you angry." Tira said softly.

"No...you didn't make me angry." Dabi took a step away from her. "Shit... I don't want to turn into him, Tira. I never want to hurt you."

"Nii-chan, it's okay. Even if you do, it'll be okay. Dad was able to change, so I'm sure you could too." Tira tried to reassure him. There was a hush outside. It sounded like the fight was finally over. "Please, Nii-chan. Let's go home together." Tira begged him.

Dabi shook his head. "Sorry. I can't do that." He turned and ran.

Tira felt a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, he was going after their father, he'd be weakened after his fight. "NO!" She raced after him. "Nii-chan! Please don't!" Tears streamed down her cheeks.

Tira ran as fast as she could and burst out of the building and onto the street in time to see Dabi approach her father and Hawks. They both looked pretty worse for wear. Her father couldn't even stand. Blue fire encircled all of them. Tira could feel her brother's murderous intent consume her. He was going to kill them!

"NO!" Tira screamed and cast her hands out toward Hawks and her father as Dabi's flames hurtled toward them. A dome of ice appeared around them, the black core inside of it began to spread turning the entire dome of ice pitch black. "I WON'T LET YOU HURT THEM!" She lunged at her twin as his flames engulfed the dome. Shards of ice shot at Dabi.

Tira winced as she felt a sharp pain in her side and realized one of the ice shards had pierced him in the gut.

Dabi froze as he looked at Tira as she dropped to her knees. She pressed a hand to her side where the ice had pierced him and blood gushed through her fingers. "Tira?" Dabi froze as she readied another wave of ice shards.

"You have to go through me first." She shakily got to her feet.

Dabi's flames fell away from the dome and he stared wide eyed as he realized his flames couldn't melt it. "Don't do this." He growled.

"You're the one doing it." Tira cried.

Dabi clenched his fists before giving some kind of signal. Black water spilled from his lips and engulfed him causing him to vanish. Tira dropped to the ground and the dome of black ice she'd created faded away to nothing.
