Chapter Thirty Five

As the conference was nearing its end, Tira let out a soft gasp of pain as her knuckles began to throb. It felt like she'd just punched a brick wall several dozen times. She cradled her aching hand to her chest before getting to her feet.

"Tira?" Burnin whispered, concerned.

"Bathroom." Tira said quietly before slipping away.

Burnin looked to the stage warily and noticed Endeavor looking in their direction, concerned. She sighed and raced after Tira. When she stepped out of the auditorium she stared in awe at the empty chamber, Tira was nowhere to be seen. She cursed under her breath, the girl was quick when she wanted to be. Burnin raced for the bathrooms, but Tira wasn't there. She successfully frightened an older woman in one of the stalls when she'd nearly kicked the door down in her search before swearing and exiting the bathroom.

Rather than go to the bathroom, as she'd said, Tira headed outside into the cool night air, her body felt hot, like she was on fire. She shed her shawl and began peeling off her gloves. There were new marks across her knuckles, they were raw and red and looked as if they would bleed at any moment. It was Toya...she was feeling Toya's pain. A suffocating rage surrounded her, bringing her to her knees as it threatened to take shape around her and envelop her in it's fury. He must have seen the photo of her and Hawks.

"Nii-chan." Tira cried quietly as she crumpled to the ground. She wrapped her arms around herself feeling like she'd felt when their father would explode with rage during their training sessions. She cowered in terror from her twin's anger that was threatening to take shape around her. "s-stop." She sniffled.

Her body burned. Steam began to rise off of her skin. She whimpered quietly in pain as she felt burns beginning to bubble on her arms. Toya had lost control and was going berserk somewhere, his quirk was hurting him.

Once the conference ended, Hawks noticed Endeavor and his sidekick speaking in hushed tones looking worried. His daughter appeared to be missing. He sent out a few feathers to try and find her location. If he found her it would give him a good excuse to talk to the new number one. It didn't take long for his feathers to pick up on her presence, outside. He hurried off in the direction, it sounded like she was upset.

Hawks stepped outside through a side entrance that led to a patio garden. He paused as he spotted the snowy beauty slumped on the ground with her arms wrapped around her. Steam rose off her porcelain skin. His eyes widened as he looked to the scars adorning her arms, there was a large red handprint seared into the skin on her arm, deep purple raised scars across her wrists and fresh bruising across her knuckles. More burns were startling to bubble across her skin seemingly from nowhere.

Without thinking, he ran to her side in an attempt to comfort her. With zero regard for himself he reached out and placed a hand to her bare shoulder. "H-hey? Are you alright?"

Tira let out a gasp as all the burning rage and pain from her brother seemed to fade away to nothing. She felt a warm gentle touch on her shoulder and a dull pain in her feet from her heels but all of Toya's anger and pain had vanished and she could breathe again. She glanced over her shoulder and felt her heart stutter in her chest as she spotted the handsome winged hero who always seemed to be running to her rescue of late.

Seeing she was out of whatever dark spiral she'd been caught in, Hawks started to pull his hand away, not wanting to tempt fate and get burned to a crisp by her father. Sensing he was about to withdraw and fearing Toya's rage would consume her again, Tira desperately caught his hand in hers.

Her face reddened as she realized that was very daring and inappropriate of her, "s-s-sorry." She stammered.

Hawks offered her a comforting smile and held her hand in his, "nothing to apologize for."

"I...just need a minute..." Tira closed her eyes and tried to get her breathing under control.

"Take all the time you need." Hawks sent a feather to pick up her abandoned shawl before draping it around her so she wasn't as exposed to the elements. He noticed the redness on her feet from her uncomfortable shoes, "but perhaps we could move over there." He indicated a small seating area a few paces away.

Tira opened her eyes and looked to the seating area, she wasn't sure if she could walk. She hesitantly nodded and Hawks gently helped her to her feet. Once upright, she swayed unsteadily. A strong arm encircled her waist offering her support. Her heart raced in her chest as she found herself in Hawks' arms.

"S-sorry." She murmured as he chuckled and carried her to the seating area.

Hawks sat her down being sure to keep hold of her hand and took a seat beside her keeping his wings extended behind him so as not to crush them on the back of the chair. He dug into his jacket pocket with his free hand, hoping to find something to take her mind off of whatever it was that had troubled her so much, "you were right."

Tira glanced at him curiously as he pulled the tiny ice hawk she'd made for him and held it up in his palm. It was the same shape and size as the day she'd molded it.

"He didn't melt." Hawks beamed.

Tira's lips pulled into a small smile, "you kept it."

"It's the coolest gift I've ever received." Hawks paused a moment as he realized his unintentional pun before mentally kicking himself.

Tira giggled softly. "I'm glad you like it." Her smile started to falter as her feet began to ache more. She kicked off her shoes and frowned as she realized her feet were badly blistered. She hadn't felt it before.

"Ouch, that doesn't look good." Hawks noted sympathetically.

Tira frowned at the thought of telling him she hadn't been able to feel it until he'd touched her, for whatever strange reason. She shook her head deciding it best not to divulge any crazy. It could make her father look bad. "It's okay." She murmured softly. Tira looked through the patio doors, people were starting to leave, if the conference was over, her father would be worried. "...I should go..." She paused and looked at their interlocked hands, not wanting to let go and be consumed by Toya's rage.

"It looks too painful to walk on, let me help you out, as a thanks for my little friend." He indicated the ice hawk before tucking it in his coat pocket.

Tira hesitated, she knew she shouldn't accept his help, but she selfishly wanted to be in his presence longer. She nodded, reluctantly released his hand and picked up her discarded shoes before allowing him to pick her up.

They didn't make it more than a few steps toward the patio doors leading back into the convention center before the doors flew open revealing a very livid Endeavor. He took one look at the young hero carrying his eldest daughter and rushed forward. Tira flinched as he reached past her to grab Hawks by the front of his jacket.

Endeavor froze as he saw Tira flinch and slowly withdrew his hand and lowered his clenched fists to his sides. He took a moment to try and quell his rage before looking to Tira, trembling, "Tira? Are you alright?" He asked in a strained voice.

Hawks stared wide eyed at his favorite hero, who looked like he'd been about to take his head off just then, but was now struggling to compose himself for the sake of the fragile girl in his arms.

Tira nodded hurriedly.

Burnin poked her head out from behind her boss and scowled at Hawks, "I should have known you'd have something to do with this." She noticed Tira's blistered feet and frowned, "you should have told me your feet were hurting."

Endeavor looked to Tira's feet, "...she wouldn't have felt it."

"Oh right, that nerve damage thing is worrisome." Burnin frowned.

Nerve damage? Hawks looked to the quiet girl in his arms, concerned. She looked uncomfortable with all of the attention so he decided to change tactics. "Uh...listen Mr. Number One, while I have you here, I was thinking maybe we could team u-." Hawks began but cut off as Endeavor threw him a menacing look.

Endeavor's blood began to boil, the cocky brat had been annoying during the conference and now was way too close to Tira for his liking. "No way in hel-."

"Dad." Tira piped up softly, throwing him a pleading look.

Endeavor clenched his fists so tightly the material on his gloves groaned in protest as if they were about to start splitting at the seams, "...what...is...it?" He asked Hawks through gritted teeth.

Hawks spoke carefully, realizing his idol was about to blow a fuse at any moment, "there've been some nasty sightings in my neck of the woods...some Nomu...remember them?"

Endeavor nodded.

"I thought maybe we could team up and check it out together." Hawks spoke with caution.

Endeavor was about to snap at him to handle his own problems before Tira threw him another pleading look. "...fine..."

"Really?" Hawks asked in awe.

"Really." Endeavor glowered, "now return my daughter to me, at once."

Tira offered Hawks a shy smile, "...thanks, Hawks..."

"No, thank you." He chuckled as he handed her over to her father realizing the only reason Endeavor agreed was because of her interference. "Perhaps we'll see more of each other."

"Don't count on it." Endeavor hissed but cut off as Tira lightly elbowed him in the chest.

Tira shyly waved farewell to Hawks as he made his exit. Endeavor noticed the shy smile on her lips and felt conflicted. He didn't much like the arrogant brat, but it was better than her being in an incestuous relationship with her twin...right? He groaned at the thought and let out a long sigh.

"You alright?" He asked Tira again.

She nodded.

"He didn't do anything weird to you, did he?!" Burnin asked.

Tira shook her head. Though Hawks had left, she was no longer being suffocated by Toya's rage. She was worried he'd worked himself up enough to fall unconscious or that he was now in a deadly calm state of murderous rage.

Endeavor noticed the fresh bruising on her knuckles, "what happened there?" He asked worried.

Tira bowed her head, "...Nii-chan..."

Endeavor didn't fully understand the twins' strange connection. He frowned, wondering what would have suddenly made Toya angry enough to snap and possibly put Tira at risk. "Burnin, did any paparazzi take any photo's of Tira?"

"Oh, did they." Burnin huffed and pulled out her phone, opening up the article with the photo of Tira and Hawks.

Endeavor sighed, "have it taken down, immediately."

"Aye, Sir." Burnin smiled before taking her leave looking thrilled about getting to harass some press.

Endeavor carried Tira to the awaiting car.

"Dad?" Her soft voice startled him from his worrisome thoughts.

He shook himself out of his troubled thoughts and looked over at her.

"...would it be okay....if I go with you to see Hawks?" Tira asked nervously.

"I'll be working." He pointed, not wanting to say no to her. "It probably won't be very fun."

"...I know...maybe I could help?" Tira offered.

Endeavor sighed, he didn't want to say no to her, it had been awhile since he'd seen her look that happy without Toya. "...alright..."

Tira smiled and threw her arms around her father, "thanks, Dad."
