Tira lay awake in the middle of the night in her pretty prison cell laying on her side facing away from the door staring blankly at the barred bay window littered with pale blue silk pillows. Her room was decorated in pretty things that were soft and safe in various shades of blue and white. Many people were here for help most of them willingly admitted themselves in, Tira was one of the few who'd been brought here against her will. The building was beautiful and most of the staff was nice and probably did a good job helping people who wanted help, but Tira didn't want help she just wanted to be free and reunited with her twin.
After years of numbness and wondering if she was capable of feeling anymore, she'd felt something for the first time in three years when she'd seen Toya hiding in the trees. It was just a spark, a small desperate fire that lit within her and made her feel alive again even if just for a moment. She heard the lock on her door begin to turn, it made a soft scraping sound but it sounded like whoever was opening it was trying to be quiet about it. The door of her cell swung open and a moment later the bed sunk in next to her.
For a moment she worried it was the new orderly who'd tried to force himself on her a few nights ago during a storm but she realized the cameras were still on and knew he wouldn't be that big of an idiot to try something when his employers and her father could see him. She didn't even remember seeing him today, she thought he had the night off. Someone placed a hand on her shoulder, a gasp escaped her as warmth flooded the area where they made contact, she could feel it! Tira rolled over and felt her breath hitch in her throat as she saw Toya sitting on the edge of her bed. His turquoise eyes widened as she rolled over to face him.
"Toya!" Her voice sounded weak and scratchy; she hadn't spoken in years. She struggled to sit up and threw her arms around him as a soft choked cry escaped her.
More warmth flooded through her at his touch as he wrapped her tenderly in his arms and held her close. She could feel his gentle touch and the warmth of his embrace. Tears welled in her eyes it was the first thing she'd been able to feel in years.
For the first time in three years, both twins finally felt a sense of peace and calm as they hugged each other tight. Toya cradled her frail form in his arms. She felt so small and delicate wrapped in his strong arms. He was worried she might shatter and tried to loosen his grip only to smile softly to himself as Tira hugged him tighter.
"D-don't let go." Tira cried against him.
"I'll never let you go." Toya breathed softly and pulled back just enough so they were face to face. He lightly caught her by the chin and Tira shivered at the sudden sensation overwhelmed by her sudden ability to feel again.
More tears streamed down her pale cheeks due to the sensory overload. Toya tilted her face upward and bent forward pressing his lips to hers. He felt her body tense slightly in surprise before she relaxed. She didn't try to push him away or struggle. More tears spilled from her steel grey eyes as warmth started to swell within her core spreading to the tips of her fingers and her toes. It was too much for her to take after years of nothing but numbness. Her eyes fluttered closed and she slumped into her brother's arms.
Toya broke the kiss as he felt Tira collapse. He tenderly swept her frosty snow-white hair out of her face before lifting her unconscious form into his arms. It was the first time in three years that Tira had finally felt safe and was able to rest peacefully. He had wanted to ask her about her cryptic message in the woods but decided it could wait, he needed to get her out of here first. She was much lighter than he remembered her being. The dark circles beneath her eyes revealed how exhausted she'd been. How long had it been since she'd gotten a good night's sleep?
Back at the Todoroki estate, Enji was in his study, another late night going back through old footage of Tira trying to see any interactions with her and the new orderly the nurse and her doctor had mentioned. From what he could see from the footage the new orderly must have started within the past week or so. The first time he was in Tira's room was roughly five days prior, he was making nightly rounds with one of the other seasoned orderlies. They entered her room, the seasoned orderly seemed to be explaining something in a hushed tone his expression solemn. He then indicated the cameras and explained further. Enji noticed the new guy's eyes grow wide at whatever he'd been told. He must have explained her father was the number two hero, Endeavor.
The following night, the new orderly made his rounds on his own. When he stepped into Tira's room he lingered a while and watched Tira as she slept. Most nights she didn't sleep but there were some night's where she eventually succumbed to exhaustion and her body would force a shut down. Her doctor said he could give her medication to help her sleep but Enji worried in her depressive and catatonic state it might have negative effects and he couldn't help but think about the time Toya had told him it gave Tira horrible nightmares. He didn't want to put her through anymore pain. Enji didn't like how long the orderly seemed to linger and frowned. The next night was when the power had gone out up until the power outage Tira had no marks on her arms. Once the power came back on there were bruises and her entire room was filled with ice spears.
Before he had left after his visit with Tira, he checked in with her usual care team to make sure he knew the next shift of the orderly who'd claimed he'd bruised Tira's arms by accident while trying to catch her. He was off until Monday evening and Enji planned to be there for an interrogation. Seeing as much terrible things as he saw in his line of work, his mind immediately jumped to terrible places of what had transpired to make Tira use her quirk the way she did.
He switched back to the live camera feed to check on Tira before finally retiring for the night. She was curled up on her side staring blankly toward the window as she often did. Enji sighed and ran his fingers through his crimson hair, it seemed she was in for another sleepless night. He'd debated bringing her back home so many times but he was terrified of her trying to commit suicide again or worse, succeeding in doing so. He couldn't be with her at all times, he'd contemplated hiring someone like a live-in nurse but he hadn't found a suitable fit quite yet. As he was about to exit the app and turn in for the night, he noticed a shadow pass over the window of Tira's door.
Her bedroom door opened; it wasn't the scheduled time of a check. Enji's eyes grew wide as he saw Toya in the doorway. His jaw dropped. "What the hell?"
Toya's fists were clenched tight as he took in Tira's current appearance, looking as if she were slowly wasting away to nothing. He unclenched his fists and went to sit on the edge of her bed. Enji watched in awe as Toya gently placed a hand on Tira's shoulder. She jumped and turned to him, her lips moved and Enji felt a tear drop onto his cheek as he realized she'd spoken, for the first time in three years. He bit his lip and kept the app open on his phone as he went to alert his driver. It was time for Tira to come home, and they'd need to hurry before Toya got into trouble for breaking and entering. He glanced down at his phone as he called for the driver. His stomach churned unpleasantly and his blood ran cold as he saw Toya kiss a weak and vulnerable Tira in a non-brotherly manner.
"Ah!" He almost dropped his phone. "That's your sister!" He snarled as if Toya could actually hear his reprimand. Tira appeared to have fainted and Enji panicked as Toya picked her up and walked out of her room exiting the camera's view. "Shit!" He sprinted toward the car yelling the destination to his driver and telling him it was a matter of urgency.
Enji hurriedly called Toya's mobile device in an attempt to stop him and tell him to wait so he could smooth things over and they could bring Tira home together and possibly yell at him for his inexcusable behavior. It went straight to voicemail. Panic gripped him as he feared he'd never see his eldest son and daughter ever again.
