Enji returned home a few days later to find Tira in a better mood than she had been in over a year. She didn't seem as jumpy as normal and it appeared that she'd actually gotten some decent sleep at some point though she was already back to her restless sleeping habits. He'd asked Fuyumi what had lifted Tira's spirits. She wasn't sure but mentioned she'd found her in the school courtyard a few days ago sleeping on one of the benches and had whipped cream in her hair and on her neck and had gotten embarrassed when Fuyumi had questioned her.
Upon his return home, he resumed taking Tira with him to his office to give Fuyumi a break. Fuyumi told him Tira had spoken to her. He wished she'd speak to him but he wasn't going to press his luck. He'd been in and out of staff meetings most of the morning leaving Tira in his office with her coloring books as he didn't have any paperwork for her to file since he'd just returned from a conference. She was a great help around the office when he had things for her to do.
After a silent lunch where Enji spent most of the time watching Tira push her food around on her plate not really eating much, Tira grew bored of coloring and went to wander around The Agency. He left her alone, all of his sidekicks and other employees knew to alert him if she tried to leave the building. Once Tira had gone, his assistant stepped into the room.
"Sir, I have some news on that matter you had me looking into." She bowed politely as she stepped into the room.
Enji turned to the plain young woman curiously, "has he been located?" He asked. After Tira had been returned home, Enji had intended to interrogate the orderly he'd seen in her room the night of storm when she got bruises on her arms. He never showed up for his shift. Enji assumed this made him guilty of what he'd feared he had done to Tira. He'd had people searching for him ever since.
His assistant shook her head, "no sir, and the police have closed the case and won't be spending anymore resources trying to find him." She frowned. "I asked the commissioner about it and he said with him being missing for so long he either went underground and has some connections high in the criminal underworld but given his previous track record that seems unlikely, or he's most likely dead." She sighed, "he probably crossed the wrong person."
A chill ran down the back of Enji's spine as Toya's face flashed across his mind's eye. Tira talked to him...did she tell him what had really happened? Was Toya responsible for the man's disappearance? Did he kill him? His stomach churned unpleasantly as he thought of his eldest son turning to a life of crime. If Toya did go down that path, he knew he was the only one to blame.
"Alright. Thank you." Enji dismissed his assistant.
Not long after his assistant excused herself from the room, the door to his office flew open. He lifted his head ready to yell at whichever of his employees had barged into his office without knocking before his eyes grew wide as he spotted Tira racing toward him. Her knee was bleeding profusely, it looked as if she'd fallen down.
"Tira?" He stared at her in awe as she ran to his side. "What are you-?" He cut off as she grabbed him by the arm and tried to pull him out of his seat. "Tira, what's wrong?" His gruff voice was laced with concern.
He wasn't expecting her to answer and strained to see as she waved her phone at him frantically before continuing with her futile attempts to get him up and to follow her. Due to her frantic flailing he couldn't see the screen. Whatever it was, it had her in a panic.
"Tira. Calm down, please." He tried to calm her and gently caught her wrist in his hand so he could see her phone. It was open to a breaking news bulletin, there'd been an attack on a UA facility. Her steel grey eyes were filled with worry. Enji sighed and attempted to be calm and rational, "if Shoto had been hurt, I would have received a call from the school."
Tira stomped her foot causing more blood to stream from her knee and some of it to splash to the tile floor. She didn't even realize her leg was gushing blood. Her father tried to remain calm in an attempt to calm her down. He gently picked her up. Frustrated that he didn't seem to care about what she'd shown him, Tira hit him in the chest with her phone though it seemed to have zero effect as he just looked at her somewhat bewildered.
"Alright," he sighed as he saw her winding up to hit him again and worried, she'd hurt herself, "after we get you patched up, we can go pick up Shoto from school. Will that suffice?"
Tira frowned at his lack of concern before tilting her head to the side curiously. What did he mean about her getting patched up?
Realizing she had no idea she'd injured herself, Enji sighed again and looked to her exposed knee. Tira followed his gaze and blanched as she saw the blood gushing from her kneecap. She'd been in such a hurry to get to her father when she saw the news alert, she'd tripped on the stairs, she didn't think it had done any damage but apparently it did.
They stopped to see the Agency's doctor, that Enji had hired once he'd started bringing Tira to work with him. A quick x-ray revealed no breaks but she did need a few stitches. Once Tira was patched up, Enji carried her to the car and told the driver to take them to UA. He ended up taking her phone away from her as she just seemed to be growing more worried with each vague news article she found on the matter.
"I'm sure he's fine, Tira." Enji tried to reassure her.
Shoto left his classmates feeling he'd waited an acceptable amount of time to be polite for an update on their teachers and classmate's conditions. As he exited the school he paused as he spotted a familiar car waiting outside the entrance gate. He scowled at his father's car but his scowl fell as the back door flew open and he saw a flash of long snow-white hair as Tira stepped out and ran toward him.
She was wearing a periwinkle dress and had thick bandages wrapped around her left knee. He frowned and jogged forward to meet her. "Nee-san, what are you doing here?"
Tira hugged her youngest brother once she reached him, "are you okay, Shoto?" Her voice shook from worry.
He smiled at the sound of her voice, "I'm fine, but it looks like you got hurt." He glanced back at the school and saw some of his classmates near the window watching the exchange curiously. They all probably thought him cold and standoffish. Frowning, he ignored his classmates before draping Tira's arm around his neck so he could help take some of the weight off her bandaged leg. "You should be more careful, Nee-san."
"...I was worried about you..." She replied softly as he helped her back to the car.
"Thanks." Shoto smiled at his eldest sister.
His smile fell as he reached the car and spotted his father already inside. He helped Tira to her seat and reluctantly sat next to her, across from their father.
"Were you involved?" Enji asked his youngest son curiously as the car pulled away from the school to take them all back to the Todoroki estate.
Shoto scowled at his father; he kept his tone cool but quiet so as not to startle Tira, "yes."
"Did you get hurt?"
Shoto continued scowling, "no. Weren't you supposed to be keeping an eye on Tira?" He retorted.
Enji frowned and folded his arms across his chest as he realized Tira was growing anxious from their bickering. He tried to remember some of his anger management tips and took a deep breath to keep from losing his cool. He didn't want to upset Tira further, she'd already worked herself up into a panic reading all those vague articles about the incident.
"Seems like you're not fit to look after her, you let her get hurt." Shoto growled at his father.
Tira looked between the two of them fearfully afraid they'd start fighting. Shoto's last comment got under her skin he was talking about her like she was a pet. She reached over and flicked him on the arm as the car came to a stop outside the Todoroki estate. "I'm not a dog!" She snapped before exiting the car before the driver could open the door.
Enji and Shoto stared after her in awe for a moment watching her storm away. A small smile tugged at Enji's lips, it was the first time he'd heard her speak in a very long time and he was happy to see her standing up for herself.
