Chapter Six

Toya & Tira- 18 Years Old

Fuyumi- 17 Years Old

Natsuo- 14 Years Old

Shoto- 10 Years Old

In an attempt to get the twins to be more independent and spend time apart, Enji had separated them in high school, he sent Tira off to some fancy all girls school and Toya off to an all boys school. Toya's unchecked anger got him into trouble, he'd gotten into a lot of fights with other students. Enji received endless emails from both schools about the twins. While Toya was fighting and acting out, Tira withdrew into herself. Her teachers said she never spoke up in class even when called on and hadn't spoken to any of the other students.

His plan hadn't worked as they were still inseparable at home and now both were ready for university. He didn't know what to do with any of his children. Natsuo rarely spoke to him, he resorted to leaving a room anytime Enji entered it, Shoto was starting to rebel and refusing to use his fire quirk, Toya was as defiant and combative as ever and he wasn't even sure if Tira could speak anymore. He never saw her speaking to any of the other children, she couldn't even look Enji in the eye let alone speak to him. Occasionally he saw her whispering to Toya, it seemed he was now the only one she'd speak to.

Toya got a part time job that he loathed, his goal was to make enough money he could afford a small apartment for him and Tira to live in while they went to university to get her out of the toxic Todoroki house and away from their father. He saved most of his earnings and what little he didn't save he spent getting Tira out of the house and taking her on fun dates to try and make her smile.

Toya changed out of the ridiculous butler like costume he had to wear for the café he worked at and hung up his uniform in his work locker. He ruffled his unruly crimson hair shaking it out of the smoothed back way he had to wear it for work. Once in his street clothes, he stepped out of the employee locker room and into the café. A few girls who had been trying to flirt with him at the counter waved over at him and giggled. He frowned finding it annoying and walked past them toward the bar style seating in front of the window. His lips pulled into a smile as he spotted Tira sitting at the bar by herself. Her long silken frosty white hair fell around her like curtains blocking her face from view as she leaned over the bar intently focused on coloring in the intricate design on the page in her coloring book.

There was an untouched pastry in the shape of a cat next to her barely drank milk tea. Toya's boss agreed to let Tira spend Toya's shift at the cafe so long as she sat in the window because she was cute enough to bring people in. His coworkers liked her and as a result she always got free food and drink from them. They all believed she was mute and Toya didn't bother correcting them. He stood behind her and reached over her picking up the now cold milk tea and took a drink. Tira let out a cute squeak and turned to find her twin stealing her drink. She pouted and he couldn't help but chuckle at her.

"My shift is over." He set the half drank milk tea back down and waited for her response.

Tira glanced down at the brightly colored page she'd been working on, "I'm almost done."

Toya smiled and dropped onto the stool beside her. He patiently folded his arms on the bar in front of him and waited for her to finish coloring. She'd seen several therapists over the years, their father's attempt to fix problems was to pawn it off on someone else. Though she'd never spoken to any of them she listened to their advice, many of them had suggested she try some kind of task like coloring. It did appear to help her relax, though Toya was the only one to really see it. After a few minutes, Tira smiled down at the completed picture and held it up for her twin's approval.

He looked to the intricate design, it looked like stain glass that molded into the shape of a peacock. It was brightly colored in a variety of cool pastel colors. He tried to keep a straight face and reveal nothing knowing it would make Tira pout again. Her lips pulled into a pout and he cracked a smile, "it's pretty." He conceded. A bright smile lit up her face and Toya couldn't help but feel a lightness in his chest. "Make sure you eat that." He pointed to the cat shaped pastry.

Tira pouted again, "but its too cute to eat."

Toya shook his head at this and picked up the cat pastry. He held it up to her mouth and smiled, "humor me."

Tira took a small bite and her steel grey eyes widened as she realized it had a chocolate hazelnut filling and an adorably involuntary 'yum' escaped her. She smiled and took another bite managing to get chocolate hazelnut filling on her cheek causing her twin to laugh. Toya picked up a napkin and wiped her face with a chuckle.

"What am I going to do with you?" he sighed with a shake of his head. Toya faintly heard the girls who'd been trying to flirt with him all during his shift let out groans of defeat. He heard one of them say something along the lines of 'should have known he'd already have a girlfriend' and didn't bother to try to correct them.

Tira finished the pastry, blushing slightly as Toya fed her, refusing to let her take it from him so she could feed herself. He liked teasing her because she'd become adorably flustered in the moment and then laugh about it or scold him later for being mean to her. Once she finished eating, she took a sip of her cold milk tea and put her coloring book and colored pencils in her small grey backpack. Toya held his hand out until she handed it over so he could carry it before escorting her out of the café.

"Nii-chan, you spoil me too much." Tira pouted as he walked beside her with his arm around her delicate shoulders to shield her from the world.

"You think so?" Toya mused.

Tira nodded, "you always have."

Toya shrugged, "you deserve to be spoiled." He noticed her phone light up in the pocket of the light pale blue jacket she wore over her white and blue floral dress. He reached over and snatched the phone from her pocket.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Tira whined as she noticed he'd stolen her phone.

Toya glanced down at the notification on the screen, it was a text from their father, that read 'I'd like to talk to you about your future, come home now'. He glared at the screen.

"Toya?" Tira sensed Toya's growing rage.

He pocketed her phone and offered her a smile as he calmed himself. "Let's go." He steered her away from the transportation station that would have taken them home and off in the direction of the boardwalk.

"Where are we going?" Tira asked him curiously sensing he didn't want to talk about whatever he'd seen on her phone she suspected it must have been a call or text from their father. That was about the only thing that would explain Toya's sudden foul mood, though he was doing a good job at hiding it for her sake. She let him get away with it and let him spoil her because she knew it made him happy but deep down, she felt guilty. She knew she was damaged; she'd already given up on her childish dream to be a hero. Now she feared she was dragging Toya down and he'd never be able to live his life to the fullest because he was constantly taking care of her.

"Somewhere fun." Toya smiled. His smile fell as he felt Tira's phone start to vibrate in his pocket. He pulled it out of his pocket and scowled at the screen, their father was calling. Tira glanced over and saw the incoming call. The color drained from her face and she stiffened. Realizing Tira's distress, Toya was overcome with anger and answered the phone, he pressed it to his ear and before his father could get a word out, he said, "no" and hung up the phone before shutting it off.

Tira blanched at this. "What was that about?"

"Don't worry about it, I'll deal with it later and whatever consequences go along with it." Toya shrugged as he steered her to the boardwalk.

It was a popular hangout for teens. There were all kinds of fun shops and eateries all along the boardwalk next to the beach. There was a giant pier that had fun carnival like games, food and rides that stayed open for most of the year. It took awhile for Tira to relax, she was worried about why her father had been trying to call her and knew he'd be furious that they were ignoring him.

"Where to?" Toya asked her as they reached the pier.

Tira looked to her twin seeming a little hesitant about answering as if she were afraid, he'd turn down her suggestion, "anywhere?"

Toya smiled it seemed like she'd finally started to relax a little, "anywhere."

"Even if it's silly?" Tira frowned.

Toya chuckled, "even if it's silly."

"The merry-go-round?" Tira asked hopefully.

Toya smiled, "fine."

Tira's face lit up and she slipped her hand in his and excitedly pulled him in the direction of the childish ride. The merry-go-round was a popular attraction to tourists and there were already several families on it leaving only a single horse unoccupied. Tira hesitated as she realized her dress made it a little difficult to ride and was about to suggest they give up or wait in line for the next one.

Sensing her sudden anxiousness, Toya smiled softly to himself as he realized her internal dilemma. He lifted her by the waist causing her to let out a soft squeal and sat her down atop the brightly painted horse's back in a modest sidesaddle manner.

"Nii-chan!" Tira swatted at him as her cheeks reddened in embarrassment.

Toya chuckled and stood next to her brightly painted horse. At the attendant's behest he sighed and gripped the glittering golden safety bar, not that the ride moved fast enough to warrant it. Once the ride attendant was satisfied everyone was abiding by all safety protocols, he started the ride. Tira giggled as the childish upbeat music began to play and the merry-go-round began to spin. Her quiet giggles made Toya feel lighter than air. It was rare to see her so happy. He lived for these moments, when he could see her smile and let go. This was as much therapy for him as it was for her, seeing her smile helped him heal from their toxic home life.

"What do you want to do next, Nii-chan?" Tira asked her twin with a smile as he helped her down from the horse and they exited the ride.

Toya shrugged, "whatever you want."

"But, I want you to do something you want to do too." Tira pouted.

"I already am."

"Oh yeah? What's that?" Tira pondered.

"Seeing you smile." Toya said as if it were obvious and chuckled when Tira swatted at him as she attempted to hide her embarrassment.

"Stop saying weird things, it's embarrassing." She pouted again trying to fight off a smile.

"Todoroki!" A voice called out before he could tease her any further.

Toya's eyes narrowed into a glare as Tira nearly jumped out of her skin. The laughter in her eyes quickly shifted to terror and in an instant the glass shattered and the happy moment was ruined. She took a step closer to her twin suddenly feeling unsafe and wanting to flee. Wrapping an arm around his twin, Toya scowled in the direction he'd heard the voice. Three boys he'd went to high school with, and fought on several occasions, approached them looking for a fight.

"I don't have time to make you moron's cry today, get lost." Toya growled once they got too close.

"Cocky bastard." The ringleader of the trio glowered at him before his gaze fell on the petite girl with the long snow-white hair currently clinging to the back of Toya's shirt and keeping her face buried in his back. "Oh, showing off for your girlfriend huh?"

"Walk away." Toya's voice was dripping with venom as his rage began to spiral out of control, they were scaring Tira.

"Pfft, hey doll, ditch this rich boy and come hang out with us." The leader made a move to grab Tira and something inside of Toya snapped. His hand lashed out lightning fast catching the creep by the arm. "AH!" The creep let out a yowl of pain as Toya reflexively activated his quirk.

Hellish blue flames licked the top of his head sticking up like horns, more fire encased his hands singeing the creep's arm. "Big mistake." Toya was practically shaking with rage, "you should have walked away when you had the chance."

Tira dropped to her knees, shut her eyes and covered her ears with her hands as things turned violent threatening to send her into a panic attack. Free from her grip, Toya unleashed hell on the punks that had been looking for a fight. A few onlookers attempted to film the fight but the hellish blue flames pushed everyone back and soon people began to scatter.

Toya had all three of the punks lying motionless on the ground in a matter of seconds. He approached the ring leader who'd tried to grab Tira preparing to deliver a final blow that was sure to put him in the hospital.

"Toya." Tira's soft sweet voice called out to him laced with terror.

He shook himself from his blind rage and looked down at the groaning motionless punks before looking to Tira's tear streaked face. "Sorry." He forced himself to calm down before moving toward her and extending a hand to help her to her feet. The sound of authoritative voices shouting in the distance with the wail of a single squad car sounded from the end of the pier. Toya got control of his quirk and kept a firm hold on Tira's hand, "come on."

They fled the scene and made their way to the beach. Once they were safely away from the crowd and far enough away it no longer seemed suspicious, Toya slowed to a stop and wiped away Tira's tears. He felt guilty for scaring her. He hadn't meant to lose his temper like that. He hated that he was like this, it reminded him of their father and he hated to resemble him in anyway, it was bad enough he had the same unruly crimson hair and his turquoise eyes.

After mopping up Tira's face, Toya pulled her in for a hug, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

"Nii-chan, would you have stopped yourself if I hadn't said anything?" Tira asked quietly.

"What do you think?" Toya asked softly as he gently rocked her in his arms trying to calm her down.

Tira bit her lip and hesitated, "I think it felt like you really wanted to hurt them..." It was more than that, she'd sensed some truly horrifying feelings, Toya had wanted to kill them.

Toya placed a hand to the back of her head cradling her against him, "I did." A hand clapped down on Toya's shoulder and he turned to see one of his father's sidekicks. He glanced around and realized they were completely surrounded. He swore under his breath before glaring at them all, "typical of that lazy ass to send someone else to deal with his children."

Tira looked up at him curiously and jumped as she realized they were surrounded by her father's sidekicks. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end and she flinched as she suddenly heard her father's voice from behind her.

"It's called a search party." Enji growled as he stepped forward, dressed in his hero costume.

"Seems like an abuse of power." Toya remarked with a scoff as he glared in their father's direction.

It took every ounce of willpower Enji had not to discipline his son in front of all of his sidekicks. Tira looked upset and he knew it would likely push her over the edge if he did anything now. "We're going home." He ordered the twins before dismissing his sidekicks.

Once the sidekicks were gone Toya smirked, "I suppose it would look bad for your image if your employees saw you beating your kids."

Tira flinched again, "p-please stop."

"I've had enough of your disrespect, young man." Enji glowered at his son.

Toya smirked, he knew his father's temper, he'd inherited it and this was exactly what he wanted, he'd been training ever since he was a child in hopes to get stronger than even the number two hero, Endeavor. He gently pushed Tira out of the way and activated his quirk.

"No!" Tira cried as her brother and father exchanged blows on the beach.

At first it seemed like Toya had the upper hand he was younger, faster and spryer but their father had the stamina and decades of experience. Tira let out a soft cry of pain as Toya took a blast of fire to the chest. His skin began to sear stretching from shoulder to shoulder across his chest. Toya bit his lip refusing to cry out or react to the pain, he wouldn't show his father any weakness. He hurled a massive amount of blue flames at his father. He took advantage of the moment his father tried to block the flames with his own and charged forward leaping through the flames and landing a solid right hook to his father's cheek. For a brief moment he thought he'd be victorious until he realized a moment too late. His father was stronger and in close quarters combat he didn't stand a chance against him. Toya was easily over powered and knocked unconscious.

Tira choked on a sob, "Toya!" She ran to his side as he fell face first in the sand.

Enji caught her by the arms and winced as she let out a terrified scream. "We're going home." He sighed as he easily overpowered her and half dragged half carried her to the awaiting car. He pulled out his phone and quickly dialed his second driver who'd been parked behind the car he shoved Tira into, "take my idiot son to the hospital." He ordered before hanging up the phone and getting into the car after her. His turquoise eyes fell on Tira sitting across from him and he frowned.

Her head was bowed shielding her tear streaked face with her long frosty white hair. She had her hands tightly clenched in her lap, so tight her knuckles were white and he worried she'd end up breaking skin and digging her nails into her palms. Her entire body was trembling as she was overcome with fear, panic and worry for her brother.

"Tira." Enji tried to break the silence.

Tira flinched.

He cleared his throat and tried again, "I wanted to talk to you about something."

No response.

"It's about the future..."

She just cowered in silence.

"You won't be going to university with Toya, I've pulled your enrollment." Enji continued on calmly.

This got a reaction. She slowly lifted her head. Tears were clinging to her pale cheeks.

"I've made other arrangements for you."

She blinked back tears.

"I received an offer from a family with a strong wind quirk for your hand in a quirk marriage-."

Tira didn't hear anything after that as her entire world suddenly shattered. Panic settled in and she suddenly lost the ability to breathe, see or hear. Everything seemed to go black. What about Toya? She didn't want to be separated from her twin. Was this what had happened to her mother? She didn't want her mother's life. She'd rather die than be forced into that kind of life. Her senses returned after a moment; her father was still going on about the arrangements.

"No." Her soft voice was barely audible.

Enji paused in his explanation, he'd thought he saw her lips move, "Tira?"

"I won't do it."

"You will, I've already agreed to everythi-."

"NO!" Tira screamed, startling her father. Ice began to creep along the inside of the windows as her quirk began to spiral.

"Tira." Her father growled his temper startling to flare at her defiance. He reached toward her.

"You can't make me!" Tira choked on a sob.

Enji caught her by the arm, trying to be gentle. The family seemed kind enough and their son had been smitten with her at first glance of her photo on Enji's desk. He was sure she'd be treated right and he thought it was the best thing for her before she and Toya continued down this path and strange rumors began to start. "You will do this."

"I'd rather die than end up like Mom." Tira glared at her father.

Enji's temper flared at this and he backhanded her before he could stop himself. His heart clenched as Tira let out a soft whimper and he felt sick with guilt as he saw the light leave her eyes and she slumped to the side only remaining partially upright due to his hand still holding her arm. He mentally kicked himself. He'd hit her too hard. He eased her onto the seat and dropped his head into his hands.
