Toya & Tira- 7 Years Old
Fuyumi- 6 Years Old
Natsuo- 3 Years Old
Enji Todoroki strived to be number one. As did many other ambitious individuals, he found himself a wife with a quirk he thought would be suitable to mold strong children that would also achieve greatness. She was quiet and meek, perfect wife material. She wouldn't question or challenge him. After a year of marriage, Rei gave birth to twins. A boy with a head of crimson hair and a girl with a head of white hair. Toya and Tira. Toya their first-born son was strong and healthy, Tira seemed underweight and a little weak. She had to stay in the hospital a few days longer. Enji worried the white-haired infant was defective in some way but his reservations dissipated once they brought her home from the hospital.
A year later Rei gave birth to a second daughter, Fuyumi. A few years later, another son, Natsuo. Enji wanted several children in case his and Rei's quirks didn't blend how he had anticipated. Early on Toya showed promise with a strong fire quirk and Tira showed promise with a strong ice quirk. Neither Fuyumi or Natsuo seemed promising so he barely paid them any mind. Instead, Enji spent his time pushing Toya and Tira to their limits trying to make them stronger.
Summer break was something most children looked forward to. The Todoroki twins had very different feelings about summer break than their peers. Toya and Tira dreaded summer break as they'd be stuck training with their father all day every day until they returned to school. Listening to their peers talk about fun trips they were going to go on with their families, the twins couldn't help but feel a little envious.
Toya, the spitting image of his father, with untamable dark red hair and turquoise eyes, was tall for a seven-year-old. He took a liking to the role of big brother to his twin, his younger sister and toddler brother. Tira, the spitting image of her mother with long frosty white hair and dark steel grey eyes was a little smaller than most children her age. sometimes teachers would approach her mother with concerns about her being undernourished. Rei couldn't bear to admit that it was because Tira pushed herself so much harder in her training in an attempt to seek her father's approval.
The twins arrived home dreading their summer holiday. Fuyumi, who was only grade behind them didn't have such reservations, she looked forward to the summer break and the time she'd spend with her mother and younger brother. The trio was relieved to find their father was away at his Hero Agency. Their faces lit up as their mother greeted them at the front gate with a smile. Toya took the toddler from her arms. Rei smiled down at her eldest son, he was sweet and compassionate and always wanting to help others.
The Todoroki siblings followed their mother inside for an afternoon snack. Rei prepared some healthy snacks and served them to the children before smiling softly to herself and disappearing for a moment. She reappeared with three child sized yukata, there was a muted steel grey one with a blue dragon on it for Toya, a pretty pale blue one with white flowers on it for Tira and a pretty pink one for Fuyumi. The kids looked up with stars in their eyes as they spotted the yukata.
"Do we get to go to the summer festival?" Tira asked hopefully.
Rei smiled, "I'm going to talk to your father about it, I wanted to order these early though to make sure they fit okay."
"Can we try them on?" Fuyumi asked excitedly.
Rei smiled and waved them off to go change. The kids excitedly scrambled away to change after giving their mother a hug. Tira helped Fuyumi into her yukata and the younger girl with the red streaked white hair skipped out to show her mother her pretty pink yukata. After helping Fuyumi, Tira realized she needed help with her own yukata. Before she could call for help, there was a soft knock at her bedroom door. She pulled it open and smiled as she spotted Toya already dressed in his own yukata.
"Nii-chan?"
Toya smiled down at his twin as he noticed her hastily tied obi. "Come here, I'll fix it."
Tira giggled softly and ran to her brother's side. She grinned as he affectionately ruffled her hair before spinning her around so he could fix her obi. Once satisfied it was tied properly, he spun her back around and smiled as the petite girl threw her arms around him.
"Thanks, Nii-chan." Tira beamed and skipped after her twin. The twins returned to the kitchen and Rei smiled as she spotted them in their cute yukata.
"You all look so cute." Rei hugged her children. They were the only reason she put up with her husband, her children were her pride and joy. They gave her life meaning. She loved them all so much she told herself she could endure anything for their sake. "Tira, let me fix your hair."
Tira smiled and took her seat at the table kicking her little legs happily. These were the moments they all looked forward to the most. The moments when Enji was away for work when everyone else could relax. As Tira sat as still as possible her twin tried to sneakily dish a few extra snacks onto her plate. Rei smiled as she caught her eldest son trying to take care of his sister.
"Hey! Nii-chan what are you doing?" Tira whined as she noticed her snack pile had grown in size.
"Nothing." Toya feigned innocence.
Fuyumi wriggled onto the chair next to Tira and watched her plate intently to try and catch her big brother in the act. Rei couldn't help but laugh at the kids. She loved seeing them like this. Having fun. Being kids. Toya tried to sneak some extra strawberries onto Tira's plate.
"Caught you!" Fuyumi giggled as she pointed dramatically at Toya.
"Nii-san!" Tira pouted as she realized the amount of strawberries on her plate doubled.
Toya smiled sheepishly, "but I know they're your favorite."
"That's because they're your favorite too." Tira giggled.
As Rei finished fixing Tira's hair, everyone heard the front door open. The laughter died down, the smiles started to slip away and everyone tensed. It almost felt like a scene in a horror movie where the scared family cowered and waited for the big bad man in the mask to find them. However, it wasn't a movie, and their boogeyman didn't wear a mask.
Rei held her breath and nearly jumped as the door to the casual sitting room they were in opened. Enji Todoroki, or more commonly known as his hero name, Endeavor, by the public was an intimidating looking man. His piercing turquoise eyes froze many people in terror. He was tall and his body was mostly hulking muscle. The most intimidating thing about him was the flaming facial hair clinging to his face. His lips pulled into a frown as he noticed Toya and Tira not dressed for their evening training.
"What are you two wearing?" His gruff voice made Natsuo cry. Fuyumi scrambled to take him out of the room.
"They're yukata." Rei answered softly.
Enji cast a scowl at his wife, "for what purpose? They're impractical for training. Go change." He barked at the children causing Tira to jump.
Rei looked down at Tira in her pretty yukata with her hair pinned up with a decorative hair pin, she looked to her husband with a hopeful smile, there were sometimes moments where she thought he wasn't a monster. When Toya and Tira had been born, she'd seen him cry the first time he held Tira. It was in that moment she thought just maybe he wasn't the awful unfeeling monster she'd thought him to be. "Don't you think she looks cute?" She motioned to Tira.
Enji frowned.
Rei sighed, "I got the yukata because I was hoping to take the children to the summer festival in a few weeks to see the fireworks."
Enji's frown deepened, "they don't need distractions. Do not interfere with their training. You can take the other two." He said with an air of finality. It wasn't up for discussion.
Toya and Tira reluctantly retreated to their rooms to change out of their yukata. Though he knew she'd never admit to it or ask for it, Toya knew Tira was upset about not getting to go to the summer festival. She'd been looking forward to fireworks, rides, games, food and spending time with the family. They changed quickly and met their father in the training hall. He seemed even more annoyed than before and Toya realized their mother must have pressed the issue further. The twins exchanged worried looks, was their mother going to be sporting a new bruise the next time they saw her?
Due to their father's poor mood, their evening training was much harder than usual and dragged on to the late hours of the night. It wasn't so much training as an excuse for him to beat them until they were bloody. Despite the rough training, the twins never cried. Tira desperately wanted to be a good child and please her father and always tried to keep a brave face. Toya stayed strong for his twin.
"One more time." Enji growled at the seven-year-old twins. They were exhausted from hours of grueling training. Tira was barely able to stay on her feet but was somehow managing through sheer willpower alone. Her body was littered with bruises and she wasn't sure she could activate her quirk anymore at the moment. She was at her limit.
Toya wasn't in much better shape but looked a little steadier on his feet. He glanced over worried as he felt his heart clench. There was a sharp pain in his chest but somehow, he knew it wasn't his pain he was feeling, it was Tira's. She was struggling to breathe. His eyes widened as his twin sank to her knees.
"Get up!" Enji roared.
Tira shakily staggered to her feet and clenched her fists steeling herself as she found her resolve.
"Again." Enji growled.
Tira nodded her head and bit her lip, ignoring the pain in her entire body. She charged forward. Her exhaustion was finally catching up to her. Her movements were slow and sluggish and far too easy for her father to see through. He stopped her with a single punch to the gut. Tira heard a sickening crack somewhere near her lungs and dropped to the floor in agony.
Toya winced in pain as he felt a sharp shooting pain in his ribs. Something was wrong! "Tira!" He cried and ran to her.
"I-I'm o-okay." Tira panted softly and tried to get back on her feet. Her body protested violently as she tried to pick herself back up.
"On your feet." Enji pushed her.
Tira struggled.
Toya reached down to offer her a hand.
"Don't help her, she'll never learn if you keep coddling her." Enji snapped, they needed to get stronger, he had to push them even further or they'd never be the best.
Toya felt anger welling up inside of him. He could feel Tira's pain even if she wasn't willing to admit to it. His hands balled into fists at his sides as he watched her get back on her feet.
"Again." Enji took a few steps back so she could take another running head start.
"NO!" Toya glared at their father, "you said one more time, she's done!"
Tira shakily looked over at her twin. She winced as their father let out a snarl of rage. Without thinking she moved between them, "I'm sorry. I'm okay, I can keep going. P-please don't fight." She whimpered.
Enji paused as he noticed her frail form trembling uncontrollably and realized she was only upright through sheer willpower. "Fine, that's enough for tonight, be back here at sunrise." He grumbled and turned on his heel to leave.
Once he was gone, Toya reached over and caught Tira as she collapsed. He felt tears welling in his eyes as he saw the light fade from her eyes as she fell unconscious. He carried his frail unconscious twin back to his room. On the way, he could hear his mother crying and felt anger well up inside of him. He cried quietly as he reached his bedroom and gently set Tira on the bed. Careful not to wake her, he covered her with a blanket before laying atop of it beside her. Their father would surely be furious if he knew the twins still shared a bed. He'd told them they were too old for it now but Tira had trouble sleeping alone and Toya always felt calmed by her presence. He feared without Tira the anger he always kept in check would bubble over and explode out of him.
