Tira had become very withdrawn after her hospital stay. For a few months she'd stopped talking to everyone save for Toya. Eventually she opened back up to her mother and her younger siblings but found herself incapable of speaking to anyone else. All the friends she'd made before summer break she'd lost as she could no longer communicate with them. She felt anxious around everyone except for Toya. Anytime she saw her father, she'd freeze up in panic and either cry or drop what she was doing and cower in fear.

A year later, Rei gave birth to another son, Shoto. Enji believed him to be his greatest masterpiece. He showed promise at a young age with a perfect blend of both fire and ice. The older Todoroki siblings had become an after thought as Enji focused all of his time and energy to mold Shoto to perfection over the years. The twins felt sorry for their youngest sibling but did nothing. Tira was unable to stand up to their father and Toya refused to get involved for Tira's sake, he wouldn't do anything to upset her fragile state of mind.

When the twins reached middle school, their mother had finally snapped from years of abuse and watching her children being abused, her delicate psyche began to fray. In a moment of weakness at her lowest low point, she'd ended up marring Shoto's face, the left side, the side that resembled Enji with his single turquoise eye and his crimson hair. The right side of Shoto's face resembled Rei, his right eye was steel grey like Rei and Tira's and he had white hair on the right side of his head.

Tira was the first to hear Shoto's screams of pain followed by her mother's panicked cries as she realized what she'd done. She hesitated for a brief moment as she realized Toya wasn't back from his evening run but ran toward the sounds anyway. After Tira's close brush with death, Toya became adamant about training so he could keep her safe. Tira was the first to arrive on the scene. Her mother was sobbing in a corner repeating a mantra of 'what have I done?' Shoto was crying and clutching at the left side of his face.

"Shoto." Tira's whisper soft voice soothed the crying five-year-old. She dropped to her knees and opened her arms. "Sh. It will be alright, let Nee-san see."

Shoto stumbled in the direction of her sweet voice. As he was wrapped in a gentle hug, he felt a cooling relief as Tira activated her quirk in an attempt to ease his pain. His tears subsided and he calmed as Tira rocked him in her arms.

"M-mom?" Tira's voice cracked as she tried to call out to her mother.

The door behind her swung open and she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand on end as she turned and spotted her father. He looked livid as he took in the scene before him.

"What the hell happened here?!" His gaze flicked to Shoto in Tira's arms and to his marred face. Blinded by rage and not fully understanding what had happened, he grabbed Tira by the arm and wrenched her to her feet causing her to lose her hold on Shoto.

A soft whimper of pain escaped her as fire encased his hand and his grip burned her. Her skin began to bubble beneath his grip. She tried to break free but his grip tightened urging another choked cry from her lips.

"No! Nee-san!" Shoto screamed finally pulling Rei from her guilt-ridden daze.

Rei looked up to see her husband in a blind rage and Tira desperately trying to get away as tears streamed down her pallid cheeks. "No! It was me!" She shrieked as she realized in his blind fury, Enji had mistakenly thought Tira was responsible for Shoto's marred face.

Enji released his grip on Tira's arm and felt a fleeting feeling of remorse as she crumpled to the floor in tears. He fixed his gaze on Rei before calmly addressing his fragile daughter, "Tira, take Shoto outside and wait for me."

Tira's heart pounded in her chest as she realized if she did so, her father would surely hurt her mother. "N-No." She sniffled.

"What did you say?!" He roared in a fit of rage causing Shoto to burst into tears again.

Tira flinched but managed to get to her feet and stand her ground. She faced her father bravely, "I won't let you hurt mom."

Losing his temper, Enji backhanded his defiant daughter and regretted it instantly as he struck her with enough force, she lost her balance. She hit the wall, hard and gasped as her temple hit the corner of a thick metal frame of a painting. Blood instantly seeped from the wound and she slumped against the wall as a wave of dizziness washed over her.

"Nee-san!" Shoto wailed.

Tira winced as blood spilled from her temple over the left side of her face. It burned as it got into her eye and she struggled to get to her feet.

"Tira, just do as your father says, sweetheart, I'll be okay." Rei choked unable to watch her daughter go through anymore abuse.

Tira hesitated, she didn't want to leave her mother. Reluctantly she picked up Shoto and left the room. She held back a sob as she heard her father strike her mother and covered Shoto's ears as she ran as fast as she could to get him away from all the pain and violence. She made it outside and sank to her knees on the front porch, holding a crying Shoto tightly in her arms.

"Tira?" Toya's voice sounded from the garden as he returned from his evening run. He ripped his headphones out and tossed them aside as he noticed the blood clinging to the left side of her face and soaking her hair. "Tira!" He sprinted to the porch and felt his blood begin to boil as he saw a large handprint seared onto her right arm. He knew exactly who it belonged to. His quirk went berserk.

Bright blue flames exploded from his body. Despite how close she was to the fire, Tira felt safe and comforted by the hellish blue fire. "Toya...its okay..." Her whisper soft voice brought him back to his senses.

"It's not okay!" Toya growled as he clenched his fists.

Shoto buried his face in Tira's chest. Tira felt her vision beginning to blur and gently pat Shoto on the head in an attempt to comfort him. "Toya...please...it's okay...I don't want you to get hurt." She begged her twin quietly as she struggled to cling to consciousness.

Toya managed to get his anger under control and dismissed the explosive blue flames. He knelt on the porch and caught Tira in his arms as she fell unconscious. Shoto cried silently and released his hold on Tira so Toya could carry her.

"Is Nee-san going to be okay?" Shoto sniffled.

Toya looked down at her pale face streaked with blood, the wound on her temple was still gushing. It took every ounce of willpower he had to keep himself calm. Tira didn't want him to get hurt, she didn't want him to fight their father, he'd abide by her wishes, for now. "I'm sure she'll be okay. She's the strongest person I know." He tried to reassure the five-year-old with the two-toned hair and the painful looking fresh burn over his left eye though it appeared Tira must have used her quirk to cool it and ease his pain as he didn't seem to be upset by it. The youngest Todoroki was more upset by Tira's current condition than anything else.

Their father appeared a few moments later ending a phone call, it sounded as if he'd asked someone to pick someone up. His gaze flicked over in Toya's direction taking note of the violent look in his turquoise eyes. He hung up the phone and a moment later two cars pulled up.

Two men in suits stepped out of the second car and made their way inside without a word to Enji or the children though Enji didn't seem surprised by this. He ushered the children into the first car. Toya was reluctant at first but knew it was probably going to take them to the hospital so Tira could get her injuries treated.

As he suspected, they arrived at the hospital shortly after. Shoto was treated for the burn on his face and Tira was taken away for a few scans and tests to make sure she hadn't gotten any brain damage from the blow she'd taken. Toya waited impatiently in the waiting room. Once Shoto was done he claimed the seat at his older brother's side feeling safer with him than their father leaving Enji alone on the opposite side of the empty waiting room.

Fifteen stitches, an entire roll of bandages and a massive amount of burn cream later and Tira was wheeled into the waiting room. The doctors said she didn't have any brain damage but they had given her a sedative for the pain from her burn. Toya swept her into his arms and angrily kicked over the wheelchair the doctor had wheeled her in on before shooting a dark look in his father's direction. Shoto scrambled after Toya as he carried Tira out to the awaiting car.

The car ride home was silent and filled with tension. When they returned to the mansion, the other car that had been behind theirs was now gone. Toya had a sinking suspicion it was their mother that had been carted away by the mysterious men in suits. His father attempted to reprimand him for his behavior as he got out of the car. Toya ignored him and carried Tira inside.

Safely in his room, Toya gently lay Tira's unconscious body atop his bed. He grimaced as he looked to the thick bandages around her right arm, it looked like blood was starting to seep through, the burns were severe, they were at least second degree, possibly third degree. He tenderly swept her somewhat dry and crunchy hair out of her face. The medical staff had rinsed out the blood but hadn't washed it very well. The faint traces of dried blood clinging to her pale locks had turned her hair somewhat gritty and crunchy.

Toya pulled a warm blanket over Tira's small frame before laying on the bed beside her. "I'm sorry, I broke my promise." He breathed softly as he lightly traced his finger over the bruise forming on her cheek from where he assumed his father had struck her. "He'll pay for this, someday, I'll make sure of it." He leaned forward and pressed his forehead against hers.

"Toya." Tira breathed his name in her sleep and rolled closer to him.

He smiled as he wrapped her in his arms. "I'll make sure anyone who hurts you, regrets it."
