Toya & Tira- 13 Years Old

Fuyumi- 12 Years Old

Natsuo- 9 Years Old

Shoto- 5 Years Old

Enji had trouble sleeping that night, he felt sick with himself. He'd lost his temper, like always. In his blind fury, he'd hurt Tira by mistake. It had been the first time she'd said a word to him in years, and he'd struck her. He ran trembling hands through his mussed-up crimson hair as he'd been doing every few minutes for the past several hours instead of sleeping. There were now creases in his hair from where he'd incessantly raked worried fingers.

He had Rei admitted to a hospital for Shoto's protection but also possibly in a meager attempt to keep her safe from his own rage. After hours of sitting at his desk in his study he gave in with a sigh and got to his feet. It was the middle of the night, Rei was already checked in at a nearby hospital that had a suitable psychiatric ward so she could get the help she needed, and the children were all sound asleep in their beds. Enji quietly made his way to Tira's room.

As he walked to her room, he mentally kicked himself as he worried over how much irreparable damage, he'd caused to her fragile psyche this time. Would she ever speak to him again? Could he face her after this? He quietly opened the door to her bedroom and felt his heart drop into the pit of his stomach as he realized it was empty. There was no sign of Tira anywhere, it didn't look as if her room had been lived in or touched in ages. Before panic could take hold, he glanced across the hall at the door to Toya's room.

He slowly opened the door and peered inside. Moonbeams spilled in from the window showering the bed in pale moonlight. He breathed a sigh of relief as he spotted Tira sound asleep, swaddled in blankets and wrapped in Toya's arms. It took all he had to stop himself from yelling at them, they were far too old to still be doing this but he knew he was to blame, he'd made this a home where Tira didn't feel safe. His heart clenched in his chest as he noticed what looked like frozen tears clinging to her pale cheeks, glittering in the moonbeams. His stomach churned unpleasantly as she turned her head in her sleep revealing nasty looking bruising from where he'd struck her.

Enji rubbed his temples as he contemplated what to do. They were too old to be sharing a bed, and from the looks of Tira's room, she hadn't really lived in it in years. At thirteen, this was completely unacceptable, they were teenagers now, with hormones they didn't quite understand, it wasn't right. What would people think? He frowned at this thought before another clouded his mind. What would people think if they knew the children of the number two hero didn't feel safe in their own home? Sighing, he backed away slowly and closed the door, it was a problem for another day, if he tried to tackle it now, he'd just end up upsetting Tira further.

The next morning the Todoroki children assembled for breakfast, like they did most mornings. Fuyumi looked worriedly between her older sister and her youngest brother as she noticed bandages covering Shoto's left eye and even more bandages wound around Tira's head and right arm. It appeared that Tira had become withdrawn again, she barely lifted her head to acknowledge any of her younger siblings. She stuck to Toya's side like glue.

"Where's Mom?" Natsuo asked softly as he realized the dining room felt oddly empty without their mother's smiling face.

"I put her in a hospital." The gruff reply of their father, as he entered the room, made them all jump in fright.

Tira tightly gripped Toya's arm and buried her face into his shoulder. Fear and panic gripped her and she trembled as she clung to her twin wishing they could both just disappear. Enji frowned as he noticed his eldest daughter's reaction.

"W-why?" Natsuo demanded with tears in his eyes.

"She hurt my masterpiece." Enji replied his tone unfeeling.

Fuyumi and Natsuo looked over at Shoto as he flinched at these words.

Deciding that was all they needed to know, Enji moved on. He looked in the direction of the twins and spoke calmly, "Tira-." He paused as her entire body jerked as if she'd just been electrocuted. Her grip on Toya's arm tightened and she tried to make herself as small as possible as she willed herself to disappear. "From now on, you'll sleep in your own bed, you're too old to be sharing a bed with Toya."

Toya threw a dark look in their father's direction, "she can't fall asleep alone." He hissed.

"Watch your tone." Enji growled but regretted it the moment Tira let out a soft whimper and her body shook with silent sobs. "If that's the case we can see a doctor and get something prescribed but you two will be sleeping in your own rooms from now on and that's final." He realized too late his tone had been too harsh as Tira got up from the table and fled in tears.

Tira locked herself in her bedroom the rest of the day. She didn't come out for meals and refused the food the maids had tried to bring to her room throughout the day. Not even Toya could get her to come out or open the door to let him in. He resorted to taking up post outside her door.

After ruining everyone's morning, Enji sighed and went to work like normal. He called Tira's doctor on his lunch break and he picked up the prescription for her medicine on his way home after a long day. Upon his return home in the evening, he was informed by the staff that Tira had been locked in her room all day and wasn't eating.

Enji let out a sigh and rubbed his stiff neck as he headed toward Tira's room. The temperature plummeted as he reached the hallway where the twins' rooms were located. It was at least a twenty-degree temperature drop compared to the rest of the house. He noticed Toya sitting outside her door seeming unaffected by the cold. His turquoise eyes narrowed into a dark glare filled with loathing as he noticed his father at the end of the hall.

"Enough." Enji growled growing tired of the boy's constant defiance, "you will respect me, boy."

"Respect is earned, and this is the level of respect you've earned." Toya hissed back his temper threatening to spiral out of control.

Enji's temper flared and he darted forward. The house seemed to groan in protest giving him pause. Three spikes of thick ice shot through the wall of Tira's room creating a barrier between father and son to stop them from fighting. The ice seemed different than usual it looked like it had a black core.

"ENOUGH!" Enji snarled and hurled a wave of fire at the ice.

It didn't melt.

"What the hell?" He tried again.

No matter how much fire he threw at it, the ice wouldn't melt. Through the small gaps in the ice he saw Toya's face. He looked just as surprised as his father. Toya suddenly winced as if he were in pain and turned to look at the door, he'd been guarding all day.

"Tira!" He gripped his head in his hands as if he were in pain before trying to open the door. It wouldn't budge. "TIRA!"

"Damn!" Enji swore under his breath and encased his fists in fire before punching his way through the barrier of ice until his fists were bloody. He moved Toya out of the way once he'd gotten past the ice blocking his path and ripped the door off its hinges. There was a wall of ice with a strange black core blocking the doorway.

"TIRA!" Toya activated his quirk and placed his hand on the ice. His blue flames melted the ice that Enji's flames could not and they both ran into the room.

Tira was lying unconscious on the floor with frozen tears clinging to her cheeks. A small amount of blood dripped from her nose, a tell-tale sign that she'd overused her quirk. Enji sighed and bent forward to pick her up but Toya beat him to it and threw him a glare before carrying her to her bed.

Toya glanced at the pharmacy bag in his father's bloody hand and scowled, "what's in there?"

Enji struggled to keep himself calm, it wasn't the time to be fighting with his rebellious teenage son. He pulled a bottle of sleeping pills out of the bag and set them on the nightstand next to Tira's bed. "To help her sleep."

Toya frowned as he looked at the bottle of sleeping pills, "those give her nightmares."

Enji tried to look unaffected as he glanced down at his teenage son, although it wasn't as far down of a glance as he remembered. Toya was getting taller. They'd grown up without him noticing. "She'll be fine. Go to your room."

Toya looked as if he were going to argue but glanced down at Tira's unconscious form on the bed and thought better of it. She'd be upset if he got hurt. He reluctantly returned to his room.

Enji sank onto the edge of Tira's bed with a long sigh. He was failing them all over again. It seemed like with each passing day his eldest children were getting pushed farther and farther away. He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Tira smile in his presence. Had she ever smiled at him? Had he ever given her a reason to? He shook his head and got to his feet with a sigh. He didn't have time for such weak thoughts, he had to focus on his masterpiece, that was all that mattered, at least that's what he kept trying to tell himself.
