Chapter 4 - Escape
*Annamarie's POV*
The next week, it was finally time to watch the movie. I had told Luke to sneak out of the main room and go to the girls' baths. He agreed, and he had already done so. I stood up and snuck out of the back. I went back to our cells since there were no guards anywhere near them. I put up layers and layers of black craft paper and drilled wood in behind them, so even if they could get the paper off, they couldn't see through.
This was a full thought out plan. I had a "stink bomb" that smelled of decaying bodies. You could set a timer on it, so I set it for 48 hours, or two days. I did everything the same in Luke's cell. I then put some ashes on each of our beds. I had even thought enough to take blood from each of us and mix it with "our ashes" so that if they could somehow get into the room and find the ashes, that they would be able to do a DNA test and they would come back that it was us. I made sure to lock the doors from the inside so nobody could get in. I then decided to write notes.
"Dear Sister Jude, I have decided that I have spent enough time in here and I have learned that what I did was wrong. I would like to die in peace. Please do not bother. I have always enjoyed seeing your smile and hearing your voice. I really will miss you. Love, Annamarie."
I then wrote Luke's in sloppier handwriting, "HEY EVERYBODY!! When I saw the note Annamarie had put up saying about wanting to die by herself in her cell, I decided that I am going to do the same. I am very sorry for what I did and I am going to make myself pay for it by cutting my life short. I will miss you all.. -L.H."
I put up both of the papers and knew that my plan was going to work. I was so excited. I made my way to the girls' baths, and there Luke was.
"Let's go," I smiled, crawling through the hole.
"Okay," I heard Luke coming right behind me. We crawled throughout the whole thing, and we got out. Thank god there were no cameras outside of the asylum.
"We're free, Lukey," I smiled.
"Let's go," he told me. We ran and bought two wigs at a store that was run by a teenager, and it actually said in the window, "NO CAMERAS. CHOOSE WISELY."
We walked in and bought two wigs, really realistic wigs. We walked around the street to find somebody to make us fake IDs. We didn't care if the fake IDs said that we were over twenty-one or not. We got them made, so now Luke and I were now "Kai Lehman" and "Lucy Parada".
"Do you like your new name, Kai?" I asked him.
"I do. Do you, Lucy Anne Parada?"
"I do very much so. What's your middle name again?"
"Joseph," he told me.
"Oh, Joseph! So... sophisticated," I laughed.
"Yours is Anne, Lucy!" He exclaimed.
"I know."
"What are we doing next? We can't live here forever. They could find us."
"I know. That's why we're catching a plane to Australia."
"Australia!?" He exclaimed, "I've always wanted to go there!"
"Well you are. And we're going to live there. Before I got put into the asylum, I had saved up money, and I kept it in a box safe under my bed in a floor safe. Nobody knew that there was a flap of carpet that you could lift up that had a small box-like 'safe'. It was just big enough for my small safe to keep my six hundred thousand dollars in."
"Six hundred thousand!?" Luke looked at me like I was crazy.
"Yeah. Until I was ten, my parents were super rich. Ever since I could do chores at around two, they gave me one thousand a week. That added up to about four hundred fifty thousand, and the rest was from either my allowance after I was ten or from my grandparents for doing good in school and stuff like that. I also spent some of it, but I still have six hundred thousand. We can take that to Australia and use it there to live there. We just need to go to my old house and get the money."
"What about your parents?"
"It's a Saturday night, Luke. They're out with friends," I told him.
"How do you know they still do that?"
"Well.. I don't know.. They've only done it ever since I was born," I said sarcastically then laughed, "Every Saturday night, they hang out at a friend's house. They were never home on Saturday nights."
We made our way to my house that was about a mile away from where we were at the moment.
"This is my old house.. I haven't been here in over a year and a half.." I took it all in. I had missed it.
"How is your house this big?"
"I told you, my parents are rich. Well, they used to be," I shrugged, walking up the curved staircase to my room.
"What do you mean used to be? What happened?"
"They gambled a little too much one Saturday night. But they're still rich enough to afford the house and everything in it. I wouldn't say they aren't rich anymore. They just aren't as rich as hey used to be."
"Oh," Luke walked into my room.
I got under my bed and found the flap, then pulled it up and took out the safe. I grabbed some clothes and other things and put them in a suitcase along with my safe before leaving my room.
"Can't we go to my house to get some things too?" He asked.
"We can buy you new things in Australia. But we aren't buying a big house. Just a little apartment. We don't want to spend all of our money on unnecessary things like a five bedroom house when there's only two of us.. We might need it for necessary things later and not have anything. Even though my parents weren't very good with their money, I am. Thats how I saved up this six hundred thousand," I patted my bag with my safe in it.
I took some of the money out of my safe while in the living room of the house. I put about one hundred in a purse, then gave Luke about fifty dollars in case he wandered off somewhere or wanted to get something for himself.
"Let's go to Australia," I smiled, getting ready to take the long walk to the airport about five miles away.
