Chapter 10 - Nursery

December 10, 2015

After Luke and I got off of work, we went back home to get my mum before going to the hospital for my eighteen week checkup. Today, we'd find out for sure if we were having two girls, two boys, or a boy and a girl.

The nurse got out the equipment and soon, we were able to tell that we were having two girls. They were so big already. I was about halfway through the pregnancy at the moment, and they still had a lot of growing to do.

My mum got really excited, especially since we already knew that Zoey was having a boy. We knew since she was twenty weeks pregnant. She was eighteen weeks at Thanksgiving, but no one noticed because she has such a small stomach. She's also having only one, so that made her stomach look smaller compared to mine. Mum would go from having no grandchildren to having two granddaughters and a grandson within the time of a month. It would be possible for Zoey and I to go into labor on the same day..

The doctors tell me that because of the positions the babies are in now, by the time I'm full term, they'll probably both be head-down. I'd be able to have them naturally. I wasn't sure what I was going to do quite yet. I was going to talk it over with Luke.

Mum was glad that we learned the genders for sure today, because she's leaving in three days. She wanted to help us with the nursery.

We went to the outlets that were a few blocks away. After going into a few baby stores, we had loads of bags. We were getting ready to take the bus home when everything went black.

*Luke's POV*

"Annamarie!" I screeched. She had fallen, unconscious.

I picked her up and told her mum to call an ambulance. I was so worried. I didn't know what to think. I kissed her forehead multiple times, then her stomach a few times. I just couldn't lose either of my precious little girls. I hoped they were okay, and I hoped Annamarie was okay.

I heard her mum rambling on to the paramedics who were on the other line. I finally heard them tell her that they were coming, and that made me happy.

The paramedics soon showed up with an ambulance. The two of us, plus Annamarie, got into the back. Her mum had grabbed all of the bags with her. We were taken to the hospital just blocks away.

When we got to the hospital, they took Annamarie and checked to see if she was miscarrying. Thank god they told me there was a ninety nine percent chance that she wouldn't. She might've just passed out because she was carrying too much weight. I wouldn't blame her. She was carrying about eight bags, each with a fair amount of weight in them.

Once she gained consciousness, she was confused. I told her what had happened. We were able to take her home then. They told her just not to strain much or lift very heavy things.

*Annamarie's POV*

We got home and got supper before putting everything in the nursery. We put up decorations on the walls instead of painting them since we had already had the cribs in there. Over one of the cribs, we put the letters MCH up, and over the other, we put MEH up. They stood for Makenna Claire Hemmings and Morgan Elizabeth Hemmings. I loved the nursery now.

We put a lot of cute clothes we had bought in the drawers of the dresser, including cute little skirts and tutus. The tutus were my favorite.

We had gotten a lot of diapers from Sister Jude a few weeks ago along with many things of clothes. We had bottles galore and a few burp cloths. We didn't even know if we would need a baby shower with how much we already had. We would probably get a lot of things for Christmas, and every now and then we would probably buy things by ourselves.

One of my favorite things that Luke got today was a customized onesie. It said, "MC Hemmings" for Makenna. I thought it was cute. He hadn't thought of one for Morgan quite yet.

"I love the nursery, babe. It's beautiful," Luke smiled at everything before we walked out. We sat on the couch, and mum was sitting on the futon.

"Again, we're really sorry you have to sleep on the futon," I apologized to my mum.

"Don't worry about it. I'm fine with it. I'll be fine. It's only three more nights," she smiled, then pouted, "then I'll have to leave.."

"You can come back sometime. But we're coming back for Christmas," I smiled at her.

She nodded, "yeah. That'll be nice. I can't wait for that," she smiled, "it's only two weeks away."

"Yeah," I nodded. I couldn't believe it.

"Annamarie!" I heard Luke exclaim from the kitchen. His tone made it seem like he was scared.

"Yeah?" I walked into the kitchen.

"The safe isn't in the fridge," he told me, making sure to be quiet enough that my mum didn't hear.

"What!?" I almost screamed.

"Oh my god.. That's because it's in the freezer, you dipshit," I remembered.

"Uh, offensive!! Don't say that to," he motioned to his shirt. It was the one Sister Jude got for him. The one that said, "the reason behind the bump".

I laughed, "shut up," and playfully pushed him.
