Temper's Rising
Adam Brook's spilled his coffee over himself when the alarm resounded overhead, painfully wailing and despite the searing hot coffee scorching through his jacket and shirt, he felt his blood chill.
Code Red! I repeat Code Red! We have a break down! Report to Containment Two!
A high pitched scream echoed distantly and despite the obvious distance, Brook's felt his ears ache horribly and he was heading in that direction. He almost crashed into Doctor Zane who bolted through, Rory following behind obviously coming from their current session. Not bothering with the elevators, Sam took the stairs two at a time before finding an elevator about to shut and they both jumped in quickly, taking the next floor down.
It was pandemonium on the floor, soldiers shouting and yelling and a high pitched snarling and shrieking, that almost reminded Sam of those velociraptors in those Jurassic films. Shoving his way through, Brook's following suit, he found the cause of the commotion.
"What the fuck happened?" Brook's shouted, drawing quick attention as the men around remained tense at where Harriet was currently laid flat on her stomach, held down by several arms. Until Same shoved them back despite their protests. Harriet squirmed, finally able to move but the mechanical jaw lock that been placed over her mouth beeped relentlessly and the woman's eyes were terror filled alongside a good heavy dose of fury. There was another laid flat on the ground, squirming fervently, eyes blazing with a frenetic glower, though she seemed to be shaking as she laughed at the commotion of soldiers shouting and cursing at her and at each other.
"I repeat, what happened?" Brooks eyed the soldiers who stood hesitantly around the containment floor, suddenly quiet and nervous. "If I ask again-"
"We were bringing the containments for their next medical routine. Some of the containments were putting up a difficult fight-"
"Which ones?" Sam spoke up, standing up from beside Harriet who practically dove through the doors to her containment and glaring at all of us through the glass window. The soldiers holding down No Name hauled her up, though she squirmed uncomfortably as her arm was pulled wrong. Zane intervened, smacking their arms away as the soldiers herded the patient towards her cell which she had slipped out of. The soldier speaking, dropped a couple sweat drops as he swallowed before gesturing down the hall.
"The um, the boy and girl-"
"The children." Sam's voice grew hard and flat, his eyes practically searing and Brook's grew nervous. "You scared the kids."
"It was their usual medical routine, once a week-"
"And what happened with Harriet and No Name?"
"She-um, the Harpy she broke through the jaw lock and broke the window when we were taking the kids to the medical-"
"An-And the other one, we were bringing in for a fix on her jaw hold and she kind of jumped in-"
"So," Sam breathed in heavily, hands on his hips as he glowered at the men facing him. "You dragged out two terrified kids against their will and two other patients tried to intervene because you damn well were not listening to scared kids?"
"Well, we-"
"And then you jump them two women. Two women were defending or trying to get you to stop scaring those kids. God forbid, I find out you do further damage to my patients!"
"Alright, the lot of you, out of here. We will discuss further later." Brook's cut off Sam despite the glower Sam threw his way. "No check-ups until you hear from either myself or Dr. Zane." The crowd faded off and Brook's faced his new colleague who approached the now nervous older gentleman. "This has never happened before-"
"Let me make something clear here, Brooks." Zane cut off Brook's suddenly he flinched in surprise, facing a steely glare from the younger doc. "Your patients are nervous enough with your trigger-finger soldiers. Everyone is in obvious high-alert. I got that. But, you are the one in charge of these men. So, get control of them. Right. The. Fuck. Now. I will not allow someone's life to be lost especially children that you will have mentally and emotionally scarred bringing them here, surrounded by soldiers who would willingly kill to appease their nerves. I'm here to sleuth out some killer, and I cannot do that with the patients tense and nervous as well as your men." With seething look, Zane started to leave but turned back to Brooks. "Also, I want to be present for any medical check-ups or at least informed of the schedule. As of right now, I do not trust your men as well as the patients." With one last glare, Zane stormed off, leaving Brook's alone in the hallway with several containments standing against their glass wall, watching him with a few differing expressions.
No Name was quietly tick-tocking as she wagged her finger at him. Georgie licked his lips hungrily as did Z. Even the two kids glared at him with hollow and terrifying ferocious eyes. Every expression made his blood run cold, and his hackles raise and he was hurrying off, the sniggering of the patients following him all the way to his bedtime.
He could hear Georgie or those kids giggles in his dreams.
