Day 2 Childhood

Brook's was doing the rounds when he heard nervous chatter around the corridor and following it like a moth to a flame because he seemed to enjoy living on the edge, he came across a couple of the soldiers stationed in Sector A near Dr. Zane's office where he would be finishing up with his first patient.

Or was already finished instead because the door opened and the soldiers stood at attention, the obvious respect on their faces for a man who was willing to sit alone in a room with the containments. Granted he had only just one meeting with one patient but his days would be growing longer and darker. Like everyone else in here.

Dr. Zane strode out of his office, his grey coat fluttering listlessly behind him as he strode towards Brooke, obviously mission oriented from the way he walked.

"Brooks." He greeted, casually walking past though there was a slight offensive manner casually lingering in his words. "I'll be doing my sessions with the kids in their safe place."

"Is that a good idea?" Brook's queried, hesitant and a little concerned for the doctor's sanity already. On the contrary, Zane looked calm and collected despite facing a man mere minutes who liked to giggle and reminisce about his family that he had easily slain.

"Unless they tell me otherwise, I will give those kids a choice." Zane glared at Brook's harshly, calling back over his shoulder his parting words filling even the hardened soldiers with guilt. "It's not like they get any choices in here."

Dr. Zane stood in front of the two windows, the two separate rooms holding supposedly dangerous children, abandoned by their own family.Hugh Jacson was playing with some hot wheels on a track, lips moving as he cheered and made sounds for awe and delight. Yumi was leaning against the wall separating her from her only friend and reading quite a thick, large book that he couldn't quite tell what it was. With a sigh, he looked at the folder of the two kids briefly before taking a breath and followed the soldier to the back so he could enter their room one by one. If they gave him permission at least. If they were older than they technically were, they were grown enough to known permission and consent was needed. The door to Hugh's room opened with a heavy clank and hiss and the boy was already staring at the doc frozen and obvious terror in his eyes, his cars held mid flip like he was a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.Zane only smiled softly, trying to appear less a threat and more softer than the soldiers would have been."Hi there Hugh Jacson. My name is Sam Zane. May I come in and talk to you?"The boy remained tense and wary but slowly nodded, though Zane had a feeling the boy was too terrified to say no anyway. Slowly as not to scare him the doc walked into the room and the door clicked behind him. Keeping his distance, Sam found a spot to kneel down in front of Hugh so they were both in each others view. Both sides of a coin, either one could be dangerous.Looking at the toy cars, Zane smiled and slipping off his coat and lowering his folders down, and appearing relaxed and at ease, he smiled softly at the boy."Which is your favorite hot wheels? I always liked red ones.""Are you and Yumi best friends, Hughey?" It was a name Hugh had insisted Zane would use. It seemed to relax, almost like he was settling more despite meeting a stranger who questioned most things the boy did."Best of friends." Hugh smiled faintly despite being a somewhat melancholy personality. "She listens to me and makes me happier. More cousin makes me happy, but he's older. He gets grumpy a lot.""Older kids are a little different.""Yumi doesn't get upset a lot but I like to be there for her. I make her happy too."Ah, young love."That's good to hear. Listening to each other is the best way to be friends. Listening, learning and loyalty are always good things. You never stop that okay.""You're first day. How was it? How many did you go through?" Zane looked from his laptop to Brook's who stood in the doorway in the late afternoon. Zane's expression was blank but there was a definite look that he was far from impressed."I met, keyword here Brooks, I met, four of your containments. George Van, Hugh and Yumi and Rory and I had a nice little quick chat when he wasn't running around doing errands for you.""I'm sorry, Doc. I didn't meant to offend you..." Zane sighed, slowly pulling his glasses off his nose and clearing them in his jumper."It's fine. You live in here and things become what they are. The tensions are high strung. But let me make things clear. You brought me here to decipher who did what and what. I can't do without establishing some connection and time with them. Be patient. I'm here to do a job." Zane placed his glasses back on his nose, the lenses glinting from the brightness of the lamp next to him. "And I assure, the job will be executed."
