the city ain't so pretty up close

fresh press

cold brew

dark roasts

and lemon basil blackberry gelato

and farm to table

and $16 light meant fried chicken

and citi bikes with their scooter cousins

and paper stationery with pastel pink and blue

variations of the chain-link fences and brick buildings

of east atlanta

-- then take a right turn

and every

body

sleeping on the street

is the same color

and the corner stores can't sell organic

and fried chicken is cheap and it's everywhere for a reason

and the chain-link fences are rusted

and the brick buildings are brown and run down

and the only pastel pink and blue you'll ever see

is the sky at sundown.

the city ain't so pretty up close.
