Chapter 63: Next Stop, Tellos Asylum
Holding him tightly, Wali's tail and staves were pointed back in case of an ambush, taking the moment to be vulnerable with Sehki.
"To be honest, when I regained consciousness, I could barely hold back at Ainsley, Taylor, Rigal, and Xia's actions. Even with their parents, how they betrayed Sybil and Quermas like that, after all they've done for them!"
"Babysitting? I've got a few vague memories of us playing together."
"Sybil would always encourage them to find a passion to not deal with the pressure of fighting Voids, but wanted you all to figure it out. I didn't think their actions would get that far. Did you not have any rage for what they did to you?"
Sehki gripped the Switches, yawning. "Of course I did," remembering the terror on his face. "But that rage, that anger on their face didn't come from just their trauma."
"How did you go through the same thing and not fall prey to said malice? Earth? Your parents," watching Sehki's nod and shake confirm it was more complicated than that.
"When Shonda fell ill and died, I saw Gerald's snap. I tried everything to help him cope: I tried to filter the alcohol out of his bottles before he'd wake back up to drink, making the shrine with Flint, giving half my food to his actual son. But it wasn't enough."
"It's never enough! It's not your responsibility to fix anyone."
"I know, trust me. One day, Valencia noticed and she told me a quote she saw from someone everyone expected would blow up, but broke down like I did: "Just because you're strong, doesn't give us grounds to test how strong you are."
So you looked for a solution."
"Always making sure CPS could see the signs he tried to hide. But no matter how many times it failed, I could never take out my anger on Flint. Why would I contribute to a cycle of someone who never deserved it?"
"But with malpractice and power, discipline should always be the verdict!"
"Wali, discipline isn't violence. Trust me, I can't forget what they've done to me: the heirs, the school, the herd, my own parents, the Twelve. But there's only four ways to stop the cycle of abuse and revenge: sympathy, understanding, support, and strength. And I need all four to save this world."
"You wish to mode delusion into idealism?"
"You can't fight abuse with more abuse. Whether you're human, fae, or Void, I won't let them turn you into a monster. So my chameleon cousin, ready to change up the cycle?"
Wali pondered the thought as he recalled the day he met Sybil.
"Should the actions of your brother mean I'll accept you with my family?"
He'd bow to her, not realizing he was changing his appearance to that of several of his brother's victims. "I'll repent for them with my life," were not words she had expected from a six-year-old while her six-month-old son crawled over to him, only backing away when he changed to Kesh.
"Though my husband would say it's incorrect to call this precognition, a child's ability to sense innocence is one that deserves another hypothesis," offering her hand.
"Then Sehki, I'll help you educate them on the difference between innocence, and ignorance," taking him to Admiral Mechion, promising to help him master the Onyx Merge.
Over the week, the new principal took the combination of Akilah's technology prowess, Qian's searching, and the random scenarios of switch uses:
-Being used for physical education training.
-Petty squabbles turned violent.
-Harassment at the Venuscillin Haven
And much more, her heart contemplated between sending soldiers to Asylum and risking backlash or sending the students there, until a certain night Sehki got a call.
"Officer West Harris: we have an emergency, we were attacked by a mysterious person who is currently supporting Stheno Gorgon's escape."
"Proxim! I'm on my way," summoning Ophiuchus late in the night while the other Shadow Brawlers jumped on, heading as fast as they could to Cusp Central's facility, watching the militia attempt to shoot at a target manipulating metal to easily block their shots.
Meanwhile, Gorgon was on her way to escape. The five of them went after her, but they heard Proxim weave power through the buildings, creating an armored snake to target them. Sehki's Zodiac beast clashed with it, resulting in a smokescreen. It cleared, she was too far to reach.
A fist uppercutted Ophiuchus, shocking them all. Sehki tried to merge into it but came face to face with the metallic warrior clad in red and black armor and a dual Sculptor themed line for a mask.
"Shakuheld Sehki. We finally met."
"Proxim?"
"In the suit. My Society of Hollows," grinding up the snake's volume with his kick, "will lead to an Astrovoid Shower that'll leave you speechless."
He gave them a meteor shower, completely making them use a multitude of spells to stop. Candy noted the path he was taking was towards Tellus Asylum.
"I apologize," said Harris. Wali could tell she shapeshifted to used her size to help endure the impact from both criminals, claiming she had nothing to worry about. "We'll try to warn the elected officials in Tellos Asylum."
Mechion had called in the Brawlers the next day, allowing them to explain their stats:
Lorena's Zodiac Control and Water Manipulation increasing.
Cree training to reach his Zodiac.
Candy taking Heath's advice on making mountains out of hills.
Sehki's dealing with the weight of the Onyx Merge.
"At the end of the week, you'll be going on an academic field trip to Tellus Asylum. Half of you will be entering against Astral Academy for a hoverboard competition."
"Wait, we could find Stheno, Qian, and Proxim."
"Potentially, however, Heath's recommended extra students come with you, so I'll be providing you with an individual completing their rehabilitation."
The day came and the transport ship opened to a familiar individual.
"Shall we carve a new road?"
