Chapter 3: Discovery
"So, we do have a shifter here," Skylar said, crossing her arms. "Didn't think it would be that easy."
I tried snapping back, only to see I couldn't talk. I felt speechless, seeing someone could just inject something into my blood and make me reveal myself. I glared at her and tried changing into a bear, only to see that I didn't—no, couldn't change.
"Tisk tisk, Sylena. You really think my serum would wear out so fast?" She laughed a bit, then put on a straight face. "Would you like to explain?"
I kept my face firm. "How did you know," I growled.
She laughed again. "Wow, how did you not know who I was? You really thought—" She paused, seeing I wasn't laughing. "Oh, you actually don't know." She sighed and started muttering to herself. "How do I explain this simply...maybe I could...she may not get it..." She kept going, leaving me to fill in the blanks that I didn't hear.
"Aha!" she exclaimed. "That should do it. Stay here." She fumbled with some keys and the triple-locked door a few times and finally got all the locks unlocked. She shoved the locks in her pockets, then opened the door enough that she could slide inside. She shut the door fast and I heard a bang, like she had put a metal bar over the door. Sure enough, when I tried to open it, the knob turned but the door didn't open, leaving me alone in this room.
I decided to collect my thoughts. 'This is great, stuck in human form in a look-alike doctor's office with no way out...' With that thought, I turned to the wooden door that was the way out of this place. I looked towards the metal door where Skylar had gone, heard nothing close by, jumped up and ran towards the wooden door.
When I had touched the knob, it tried burning my hand. I pulled my hand back and surrounded my hand in water to cool it off. I was surprised I had at least that power. After that pain faded, I formed a fireball in my other hand and chucked it at the door. After the flames dissipated, I saw the door hadn't burned down. Not even a mark or burn was visible.
'Let me guess,' I thought. 'This girl can enchant stuff and make it indestructible?' I slammed my foot down. "What's next universe? A demon from the pits of hell?!" I started pacing in frustration, trying not to scream or let my elemental abilities get out of hand.
I was about to throw another fireball when I heard the door opening. I instantly threw myself back on the table and took a deep breath. Skylar walked in with a huge book, closing the door with her foot and dropping the book onto a table beside her. A cloud of dust arose, making me hold back a cough as she sighed.
"This might help," she said confidently. She muttered something under her breath, then looked at me. "Also, nice try burning down my door. You underestimate me, Sylena." I almost went red out of embarrassment. I thought I was sneaky, but Skylar seemed to know everything. Then again, I yelled and had had two seconds to look normal when she came in.
"Now we're going to play a little game," she said with a smirk. "I'm going to ask you questions and you're going to reply with full honestly and truth. Understand?" My first thought was to run again, but I knew it was hopeless. I started brainstorming all the possible outcomes for a while when Skylar snapped her fingers at me.
"Understand?" She sounded more demanding than asking now. I nodded my head once and she smiled. "Don't make this harder than it has to be. I know more than you think."
My sarcastic, troublemaking self stepped in and said, "Make me," with a firm stare. She held back her laugh, then sighed and cracked her knuckles.
"Alright then. Let's begin." She dusted off the cover of the book, opened the cover, and asked, "What is the Astral Dimension and how did you get here?" I froze completely. She looked back at me. "And also, how come you can shapeshift, control elements, and communicate with mythical creatures?"
'She knows everything,' I thought to myself with wide eyes and almost no air to breathe.
'I am so dead.'
