Chapter 2: Summer Suspicion
Seeing the amount of people, mostly girls, looking out at me, I felt like jumping and running, but that would attract more attention to myself. The first one to make a move was Skylar, who took a look at me, tilted her head for a bit, then opened the window to let me in. Astonished, I froze, thinking it was a trap. Skylar just stood and waited. Everyone else in the dormitory just looked confused and a bit fearful of a seemingly wild fox coming in.
I took a step forward, and someone looked like they were going to scream, so I was about to turn back, when I felt I couldn't. Skylar's gaze locked in on me and wouldn't let go. Her blue eyes were gazing into my green and gray eyes.
I tried taking another step forward, this time nobody looking like they were going to scream, though fear still hung in the air. From then I didn't move, and I was running out of room to go before having to encounter the people looking at me.
"Come with me," Skylar said, without moving her mouth. It sounded exactly like her voice as if she were talking. But I felt as if she had me in a trance, and I walked to meet her. Everyone else stood still, as if they didn't hear Skylar and were scared of approaching me. She had started walking towards one of the beds, which I guessed was hers. The people I passed just looked at me and didn't move, like they were in a trance as well.
Next to one of the poles holding up her bed was a trapdoor, with a sign above it that said DO NOT ENTER in bold red letters. She flipped it open and released a ladder going down into a passage, which led to who knows where. She looked at me, like she wanted me to go in first. I just kept looking at her, unable to look or move away.
I knew it was stupid to go in a mysterious hole that was obviously made to not be noticed and be a possible trap, but I jumped in anyways, with my paws rolling along the ladder pegs and slowing my fall. Skylar jumped in after with a slam of the trapdoor and a soft tap on the stone floor. She opened the cracked wooden door ahead with a slight creak, revealing what she was hiding.
It looked like a doctor's office. A door on the side was closed, right next to a table where a patient would sit. A cabinet across from that was ajar, showing tons of medical bottles and objects. I saw a needle and wanted to turn back instantly. Skylar kicked me in, closed the door we came from, and turned to me with her arms crossed.
"Wanna talk?" she said in a firm voice. This time she moved her mouth like a normal person. She narrowed her eyes, looking further into my green-gray eyes. I felt shaken and fearful. I gazed behind her at the door. I looked ahead and saw the other door was locked with three locks, a sign basically saying that I wouldn't get in. I turned back to her and didn't move or make a sound.
"Get on the table," she barked. "I'll make you talk." I didn't move. Instead I sat down and swung my tail back and forth, waiting to be let go.
"Have it your way." She grabbed me faster than I could move, and in a second I was on the table. I didn't even get the time to bite or slash her as she took a strap hanging off the table and pulled it over my back, securing it to the other side. I writhed and growled, unable to break free.
Skylar turned away, going towards the cabinet. From a stand on the counter below her she pulled out a needle with an empty injection tube. I watched in horror as she filled the tube with a light blue liquid to the brim. She flicked it a bit and turned towards me.
"Last chance," she said calmly. I don't think she saw I had a strap binding me to the table. I didn't even know what she wanted! Who takes a fox, throws them in an underground doctor's office, traps them, and prepares to give them a shot for no reason? Wait, I'm a shapeshifter elementalist. So what? Same thing.
"Fine." She moved forward, pulled out my front right paw and stuck the needle in the upper arm, injecting whatever the hell that fluid was in my arm. I felt it instantly go into my body and spread rapidly. Skylar removed the strap and stepped back. I stood up dizzily, feeling like I was about to fall off the table. Right then, I felt myself fall back and shift back to normal, my human form.
I froze on the table I was sitting on. Skylar smirked, looking pleased with herself.
