"Look Optimus," the young woman sighed, "Thanks for picking me up and all, but I had business to take care of."
Her brown eyes stared out the passenger side, window down, red strip surrounding her pupils vibrant in the dark Nevada night. She held her black jacket tightly around her to fend off the chilly air, though her face she stuck out the window as if she were overheating. Lilith (Lily) Jewel Wing was Optimus Prime's charge and romantic interest. Who knew of this besides them? No one. Why? They didn't think it should be a public affair.
"The Decepticons have been highly active," the mech explained, his seat warm to help her fend off the chill, despite the hybrid's lack of judgement in lowering his window. "I do not wish you to go street racing while Knockout may be on the prowl."
"I could beat him easily," Lily huffed, "I'll just switch bodies."
"I already know you planned on going as your more natural form. If you could please humor me, and consider my cautioning words?"
She had simply gone quiet.
Being the daughter of an ex-Decepticon had it's downsides. Lily could count many but she was to focused on letting the wind dry her eyes and cool her burning face. She loved the Prime, and being near him, but this was far from enjoyable. It was awkward. Shuffling further out the window Lily refused to look at the Prime's holoform, staring at the sky and counting the stars. She mapped the constellations in the uncomfortable silence that hung in the air.
Optimus finally spoke again once they were in the confines of the missile silo, letting his charge step out before transforming. He let her follow to his berthroom, the others recharging or on patrol, where he laid down as if to rest, only for his holoform to appear again beside his beloved.
"I found something for you," he told her, earning the young woman's attention as the Prime took a small trinket from his pocket. Two halves of one stone, perfectly smoothed and polished, swirling with reds and blues, the colors combining in places to create purple. The were wrapped in a thin wire, connecting to a long chain.
"It's a rock?" Lily was confused. She couldn't wear much for necklaces because of the purple Spark shard in the middle of her chest, buried under a tank top, crop top and black jacket she rarely took off. This little piece keeping her alive. She had her bracelets to keep her ready for battle at all times, the small rings on her wrists and ankles having the ability to transform into helpful objects on command (Though the anklets only transformed into a form of booster, allowing flight, while the bracelets were both swords and blasters). She didn't wear earrings.
"Not just any rock," he chuckled at her, taking no offence since she obviously had yet to learn of this little piece of power her father had not yet taught her about. "I used to have a battle axe on Cybertron, a third transformation in my right servo, but I'm afraid it was destroyed. This small piece of stone is what's left. It sat in my wrist, activating when swung at high velocities as pure energy, taking the form of the blade and handle." He placed one half in her smaller hand, stepping back with the other and letting the chain drop.
Lily watched in amazement as he swung the trinket, soon a double headed axe head making sparks fly on the floor. The girl grinned, letting her half drop and swinging it back and forth to determine it's weight. She then twirled it, making a low humming noise as the stone flung round and round in the air. The axe head snapped to life once the velocity was far past being able to keep track of the rotations. She laughed at the beautiful blue color, twirling the surprisingly weightless weapon up and down and side to side. She finally stopped when she hit Optimus's holoform, which he had allowed to phase out some in case it did happen.
"Sorry-" she smiled sheepishly, letting the blade disappear. "Thank you. How did it break?"
"It's a rather embarrassing story actually," he admitted with a chuckle, guiding her to the small corner of blankets, pillows and mattress that sat on the floor. He sat down first, letting her choose where she sat, not minding when she chose to lay her head on his lap while the rest was covered in a blanket, "I was at Vos, or what remained of it at the time, and I'm afraid I hadn't had my weapons examined in a long while. We were looking for a missing comrade when I stumbled over a fallen beam. Something must have hit a pressure point in the joint of my arm because the next thing I knew; I hear a pop and the power stone of my battle axe shatters on the ground. Ratchet had a nice lecture prepared."
"Did you find your friend?" She asked, more worried about the missing Autobot after he mentioned it.
Optimus paused a moment, thinking.
"Yes, we did," he didn't mention it was Chromia's corpse that littered the ground in pieces, but they found her.
The Prime watched the Human-Cybertronian hybrid, so comfortable around him, but she was conditioned to having someone like him around. He had found her in an enemy ambush, looking for the same energon signal as he. He chuckled as she examined the stone, brushing a hand over her cheek, only to frown at the sight of black beneath her tanned skin. Since when did humans change color? It only took him a few more moments to realize it was bruising, hot beneath his fingertips. He also realized her eye was swelling.
"Lily, what was this, business, you had referred to?"
She tensed when he mentioned it, cheek still numb from the previous cold winds, so she had not realized Optimus had found her bruises.
"Errands," she lied, "Mom needed a couple groceries and there's a 24 hour gas station just south from home." While the gas station Optimus knew well, he knew she was not being truthful.
"Lily, your cheek is burning, and your covering was smeared."
She bolted upright, suddenly able to sense all feeling of the heat and pain again at the mention of her little escapade being found out. The movement had caused her to become light headed, and Optimus had to lay her back down, careful of her cheek and eye. He made her take off her jacket as well, revealing bandaging up her arms. The Prime sighed.
"How many were there?"
"Just two," she refused to look at him again, face turned away from him, "I handled them."
"Then what was this 'business' you referred to earlier?" He raised a brow.
"They had a third buddy who insulted someone else. She has Autism, but can work an engine better than most mechanics I've seen. She helped me fix a blown piston on someone else's car."
The mech holding her head nodded. It was a noble act, though he disagreed with her fighting for this other woman's honor. He was sure these humans could have been spoken to. Maybe.
"Well, I'm glad you and the nice human female are alright. But please, next time call for me. I do not appreciate you putting yourself last as you often do."
"Live with it, Prime," she chuckled, sitting up to kiss his cheek, which made the mech blush a dusty pink, "It's either accept it or live with an unsettled spark."
"I refuse to 'live with it', as you say," he chuckled, moving her to sit comfortably over his legs, "but I know that you can care for yourself, so my spark is content. As long as you are with me."
They remained with each other for as long as Ratchet remained quiet about something he needed.
