Chapter 17

Here it is! The latest chapter of Assassin's Apprentice!

(Edited by Evening-Rose )
Hope you guys enjoy the story!

Most of us talked quietly among friends, except with R it was never quiet he didn't know how to hush. Angolio and I rode close together, whispering a few things to each other but mainly we communicated with our expressions/faces and eyes.
"Poor you! You're stuck with that piece of Draping Muckani (Insert rude word here)!" Nacki called out gesturing towards me. R and Mackai burst into laughter while I rolled my eyes, "You're the piece of Draping Muckani, and I could kick the hell out of you!"

Soon the time came to part ways with the people we grew up with, that we shared jokes with, and quite possibly the friends we could never see again. This meant, R and I would be heading down the first fork in the road of four. Others would go different ways.
I hopped off Aazen, hugging Blaze while Angolio dismounted, tears in his eyes and hugged me.
"Goodbye, my dear, dear friend, you are the greatest friend I ever had." a tear flew with lightning speed down his check.
"Angolio, don't act like the two of us won't make it through!" I scolded him, still hugging him.
"I'm not acting like we won't both make it through this! You will make it through this. However I probably won't"
"Stop, just stop Angolio! I will see you again. In this world or the next" I said finally breaking the hug. There was no one else really, to say goodbye too. So I hopped back on Aazen pushing back the tears. R was finished saying goodbye to his "gang".
He came within five metres of me and together we rode into the forest following dirt path surrounded by large, thick kao (Oak) trees.
There was no bickering, no noise part from the noises of the forest life and the noise of nearby rushing water could be heard. We still rode five metres apart and it continued like this for about ten minutes until suddenly, R farted. The left side of his mouth turned up into a smirk.
"Your turn" he said me looking at me. I made sure my gaze was at something else "My turn to do what?"
"Fart. You know, like we used to play?" he replied, my heart sprung into action. Why would he even mention that! I made sure my face didn't show that action.
"Why would I want to do that with you?" I spat in his direction, the saliva landing just in front of his horse. After spitting the question I urged Aazen out of her walk and into a trot.
He urged Aniie into a trot to keep up to me and Aazen. I quickly glanced at him and he raised his eyebrows at me as if urging me on. I let out a louder, larger fart then R had done, he smirked laughing slightly. I shook my head and kept on riding and looking ahead of me.
The forest had become denser and the sun took as many chances to break through the canopy leaving spots of sunlight. The grass was long and a vibrant green colour. This forest was very healthy and very colourful. There are so many different types and colours of plants, green and purple flowers, red, blue, yellow, pink, orange flowers and weeds- they all caught your eye.
"Ebony?" R asked, grabbing my attention. I raised my left eyebrow and he continued to talk "When was the last time if personally insulted you?"
I didn't even glance over in his direction, "A week ago, it was just after Eila told me the story of how he really found me."

"What was the story? Oh wait, why would I care about that story?" R asked. I quietly sighed I thought he was going to be sincere but of course not. Because it's R!
"There's a stream not too far up there, we'll stop there for a few minutes" I said referring to a small stream that was only three hundred metres ahead.
I had heard the running water and I had notice the plants were beginning to seem healthier.
Aazen changed her speed into a canter and so did Aniie to keep up as well. So we reached the river in a short amount of time. Around the small river the flowers were so bright, as bright as the nus(Sun), which was the Tarsa(Star) that came up every day, it signifies that it's daytime.

The stream ran over a few small rocks. I stopped Aazen near the stream and dismounted her. I only had to walk a few steps before I had the river rushing onto my ankles.
I squatted down my red crazy hair falling down i scooped up a handful of water and started drinking 'It has quite a nice taste' I thought to myself.
"The water is clear, the plants are very very healthy and it's running over rocks." R said talking to me like I was some form of idiot., I nodded my head slowly and continued drinking. The horses were drinking up the water as well. R squatted and began drinking it on the side opposite to me. I also filled up my leather water skin full of water.
Aniie and Aazen were acting just like us. Aniie being close to R and Aazen close to me. Well, a few metres away from us.
A few minutes past in pure silence, well apart from the sounds of the river, when I felt a splash of water on my face. I looked up and saw R smirking. I just stood up straight and walked over to Aazen and mounted her.
R was mumbling about something when he mounted Aniie, "Thanks, I needed to have my face refreshed." I said to R letting the sarcasm roll off my tongue. He gave me a stupid smile.
We were just standing there but I leaned forward and whispered to Aazen, "This is going to be a long long trip" She neighed back stamping her left foot and nodding her head. I was glad she agreed with me, at least i had my horse.

R was whispering to Aniie as well and patting and fussing over her. I rolled my eyes.
"Let's get going. I want to make good time before the nus goes down." I said to R who snapped out of his affectionate public display and walked over close to me.
We continued in the same positions as before. The pots on Aazen's saddle rattle and jangled together as we trotted along the forest road.
Jangled cool
Four hours later,, and a few toilet (o-O) stops later...

"Do you want to stop?" I asked R. It was not too far from becoming dark and we needed to get a fire going so we could cook supper. Also we needed to prepare for the dangerous creatures that lurked in the nearby area. Animals such as the Kalera, large wolf like creatures the size of horses that have thick, brown matted fur and glaring yellow eyes that have specks of red in them. They have a mouth full of teeth like razor sharp knives and claws that could easily skin a man. They have a howl so bone chilling that it sends chills down your spine every time you hear it.

I remembered when Eila explained them to our class, and I am worried but the daredevil in me can't wait to see them and see if the explanation gives them credit. Thier fur would make a great blanket or covering.

R broke me from my memory of Eila, "I guess so."
We rode onto a rougher dirt road and into a forest clearing. The trees were a dark colour with pretty healthy bright leaves they were large trees but an expert or pro like myself could easily climb them.
There was a clean stream not too far away. There was little amounts of leaf litter around the clearing.
I gestured Aazen towards the stream and dismounted. Aazen hurriedly lapped up the water. I walked over to R who was already gathering firewood. R began to light the firewood with two small, strong sticks. As he did this I got three thick, strong sticks two of which had natural forks in them. I put them either side of the fire.

I took of Aazen's kcat and laid it on the nearest branch which happened to be a low hanging branch. I Rubbed Aazen's back to help relieve her aching. She turned her head around to face me and I stroked her head affectionately.
I then pulled out the deep metal pan, filled it with water from the nearby stream and walked towards the fire. But I also got out some strong twine to help support the sticks.

I carefully placed the pot of water onto the ground. Then got the third stick I had gathered up and put the pot handle on it. I continued by placing it on the two forks above the fire that was now burning quite nicely. Holding it still with one hand I got some twine and wrapped some around the left fork tying it at the end. Then I got another piece and did the same for the right fork.

R was sitting down helping fuel the fire. We did all of this work in silence. If I was with Angolio we would be joking and talking like always. And I would be doing one third of the talking. I would nod and smiled as Angolio talked the rest.

The only people I show my true personality is with Eila and Angolio. I mean Ala knows my personality but Eila sees through the wall that I put up. I put the wall up to stop pain affecting me. Most people think I am the emotionless bastard child. And they could be right. Well, some of the time.

The bubbling of the water brought me out of my deep train of thought. I went and got the food from Aazen's kcat and silently brought it over.
"What do you want?" I snapped, destroying the peaceful yet disturbing silence between us.
"Anything. Ooh maybe some meat stew." R said trying to drive a small twig into the ground.

"Not on the first night! Waste the best stuff first why don't you?" I said,
R cursed me in Aku before kicking up dust with his feet in my direction. I was now sitting cross legged on the round putting herbs into the water, along with getting out a loaf of bread and hanging it above the fire with a bit of twine. R was about to say something when I looked at him and squinted my eyes, stopping him.

I put some other ingredients into the pot, mostly dry vegetables. Soon the bread was warm and the stew was ready. I slit the handle down just off the fire and grabbed a wooden bowl and fork.

R looked at me and got his out of his stuff as well. I must not have noticed that he had been taking the kcat of Aniie. Aniie and Aazen were standing close to us causally grazing the grass. We dished out the stew and broke the warm bread in half and took one half each.

Then I got my bow and quiver out and ran up a tree to get ready for the first half of night watch.
R grabbed his sleeping roll, and climbed up a tree opposite to mine, well only to the third branch, I was on the 5th branch of my tree. My well trained eyes ready for any dangers that might come.
