One
An assassin's morning would start out pretty early, depending on how willing they were to train. And Jeongguk loved going to the gym and testing out different weapons to take out on the field. His personal favorite, though, was the sniper because he was kept at a perfect distance from his target to avoid any suspicions.
It was already nine am and he'd been in the gym for about two hours, the only thing on his mind was that anonymous text. He knew it was related to his most recent target.
After he'd brought up the problem to his Master, Yoongi briefed him about Mr. Young's associates and the business he was a part of but the company Mr. Young belonged to was big and he'd waste precious time to start hunting them down because he knew none of those employees were clean.
Jeongguk was relatively new to the case and he didn't know the name of the CEO yet. He figured Yoongi would tell him when the time came. He was patient. He was taught to be. That was the reason why he was considered the most loyal assassin among them all. Jeongguk never asked too many questions and he trusted his mentor with all his heart.
"Jeon Jeongguk report to the Master's office as soon as possible." The female voice on the interphone silenced the trap music that was blaring through the speakers just seconds before.
The young assassin exhaled loudly as he dropped the weights he'd been lifting before the voice interrupted him and grabbed his water bottle to chug half of it down before he wiped the sweat with his towel.
Getting out of the gym, he headed towards the office, humming the song he'd heard earlier. Once he was in front of the door, he knocked three times consecutively before he stepped through the threshold. The door was always opened as a sign that the Master had nothing to hide from his beloved subalterns.
'Jeongguk. How are you, today?' Yoongi asked, holding a piece of paper in his hand. The small talk was only a way to show the slight concern about the younger's health before they got to business.
'Good. Is there something wrong?' Jeongguk asked, patting the towel's end onto his chin to absorb the trailing droplets of sweat.
'No. Everything is... normal.' Yoongi hesitated. 'I have a mission for you. ' He handed him an envelope. 'Her name is Yuri. Kim Yuri. She is an important ally of the Kim Industries. She helps transport the drugs out of the country without the authorities suspecting a thing. I don't know her location but in that envelope, you will find the name of her assistant. Use your skills to make him talk but don't break the tenants.'
The tenants. The rules that the assassins lived by:
I.Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent.
II.Hide in plain sight.
III.Never compromise the Brotherhood.
'Miss Yuri might be the one who sent you that message, Jeongguk. Be careful.'
'Yes, Master. I will return when the deed is done.' Jeongguk bowed without asking anything else. Loyal.
'Oh and Jeongguk?' The younger turned immediately. 'Namjoon is going to accompany you. He said he's missing the field work.' Yoongi chuckled as Jeongguk bowed again, heading for the door.
Namjoon. He was Yoongi's oldest friend, as far as Jeongguk knows. They used to be partners before Yoongi was promoted to Master Assassin. The reason Namjoon retired from field work was pretty simple: clumsiness. Yoongi knew how his partner was around weapons or pretty much anything and that made him take the decision to put him on paperwork duty. It was safer that way.
As soon as he left the office, he went to his apartment to take a shower and begin preparations for the mission. He unfolded the piece of paper to remember the name written on it, Han Woo. Good thing the assistant wasn't a girl because he couldn't hit a lady and the option of flirting his way to get the answer wasn't really his favorite since he kinda had a thing for men but a job is a job and if he had to do it he would do it.
He undressed before he stepped into the shower to wash off the hard work and think about his strategies for today's mission. He wouldn't dare break the tenets because if he ever did, he wouldn't live long after Yoongi would find out, needless to say, continue to be an assassin above all. He took the towel hanging next to the cabin and wrapped it around his waist after he was done. Walking to his closet, he remembered to text Namjoon to meet up in the lobby in one hour sharp.
Jeongguk opened his dresser's door to grab his white hoody and a pair of black skinny jeans, putting them on. He walked to the chest he kept at the foot of the bed, opening it to take out his hidden blade, strapping it around his wrist, along with his pistol with the silencer already attached to the barrel, just in case. He preferred the blade more because it gave him more power over his target. With just a flick of his wrist, he could have him dead in seconds or cry for help while spilling out the truth in an attempt to keep their life.
The time went by quickly as he was getting ready and soon enough he was downstairs in the lobby waiting for his partner for the day. He never liked teamwork because he felt responsible for their life no matter what was to happen. Jeongguk enjoyed working alone and making his own decisions when it came to his missions but he had to deal with the older because the Master said so and he never disobeyed him.
'Jeon Jeongguk.' Namjoon's voice resonated from the other side of the room. 'So you are going to be my partner for today. Yoongi spoke highly of you.' He nodded appreciatively. The older wore similar clothes to Jeongguk. The Order's ring shone brightly on their left hand's ring finger.
'Yes, that is me. We should get going.' Jeongguk spoke in a professional tone. He and Namjoon saw each other around the building but never had spoken to each other before. It could be the age difference or preferences when it came to going out and getting to know each other.
'Yes, we shall.' Namjoon cleared his throat, starting to walk behind the younger.
For this mission, Jeongguk took his personal car, a black BMW M5, because he didn't know how much he would have to walk around to find the people he's sent after and getting a taxi in the middle of Seoul was hard, especially when it was rush hour. The atmosphere was slightly awkward with the new stranger in his passenger seat but he learned to deal with it.
'So... How are you going to do this?' Namjoon asked, breaking the awkward silence.
'It depends on the scenario.' Jeongguk replied shortly.
'Alright. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.' The older laughed nervously.
Taking a left, Jeongguk parked the car in front of the diner that was written on the piece of paper he was given, right next to the guy's name. The assassins went out of the car and walked into the small building that was slightly crowded from the employees that worked in the area, having their lunch break. They took a seat at one of the few empty tables and waited for the waitress to come by to take their order. They weren't there to eat but he could persuade the girl into telling him about one of her customers.
'Good day, sir. What will it be?' She asked, holding the writing pad with one hand as the other was busy holding the pen and ready to begin writing.
'Two cups of black coffee. May I ask you a question, Miss?' Jeongguk looked up at her, a playful smirk laying on his lips as she smiled, nodding. 'We're looking for our friend, Han Woo. Do you know anyone by this name?'
'Yes, he is a regular here. In fact, he's coming this way right now.' She smiled, pointing her pen towards the entrance.
'Thank you.' Jeongguk winked at her before he looked back to the front door. The guy was wearing an expensive suit, just like his ex-colleague, and a briefcase in one of his hands. No doubt, holding the contracts for their dirty business. The man walked by them, heading for the bathroom first. Perfect. Jeongguk whispered. 'Let's go.' He ushered Namjoon as he got up from his seat, following his target into the back.
He opened the door to the men's restroom, checking the stalls discreetly as Namjoon remained at the door, guarding it. He waited until the guy finished his business before he approached him when the man was washing his hands. Mr. Han eyed Jeongguk suspiciously through the mirrors above the sinks before he turned around to see Namjoon blocking the door.
'What the... w-what is the meaning of this?' He asked, voice wavering out of fear.
'We just want to ask you some questions.' Jeongguk shrugged. 'Do you know a girl going by the name of Kim Yuri?' He asked carefully, noticing the guy's Adam's apple bobbing at the sound of her name.
'N-no.' He lied. Of course, he lied. Any loyal employee would do the same but they weren't in his position, so he asked again.
'Well, a bird told me you know her. Are you sure you don't?' Jeongguk frowned mockingly.
'Yes, I'm sure. Whoever told you that is wrong.' The guy took a step towards the exit.
'I think you are wrong.' Jeongguk tried again. He didn't enjoy using violence to get his answers but if they ask for it, he would give it to them.
'Look, man, I don't know what you want from me. I'm just here to eat my lunch after I take a piss. So, could you kindly fuck off?' He frowned, a wave of courage rushing over him as he nudged Jeongguk to the side.
'Wrong.' He said before he took a swing at the guy's jaw. 'Where is she?' Jeongguk asked while the guy stumbled to get back on his feet again.
'I told you, I don't know who you're talking about.' Han Woo continued to play dumb. He wiped his bottom lip to realize that it was split and blood was staining his skin. 'You son of a bitch!' He growled, darting towards the younger only to be stopped inches away from Jeongguk's extended blade, aimed at his face.
He was holding the man by his neck as Han Woo eyed the blade, fear visible in his eyes. 'I'm going to ask again.' Jeongguk pressed on the words. 'Where is Kim Yuri?' He tightened the grasp around his throat.
'Alright, alright! She is going to be... attending the charity ball... tonight... when she flies back to Seoul.' He said through choked gasps and Jeongguk smiled victoriously as he let the guy slide down to the floor, coughing for air.
'See? Now, why didn't you tell me that from the beginning and we could've avoided all this.' Jeongguk shook his head, retracting his blade.
'If you think I won't warn her, you'll be kidding yourself.' He crawled to get a hold of his briefcase.
'Ah-ah-ah.' Jeongguk slapped his hand, grasping the case's handle to pick it up. 'You won't. That is if you don't want to feel the blade ripping your insides.' He threatened. Again, he didn't enjoy the violence but that was a part of his life.
'You're going to lose, Assassin. You won't get past the security.' The man laughed darkly but Jeongguk was halfway out the door.
After he got back to the diner's main room to pay for the untouched cups of coffee, he pulled the hood on, gripping the case tightly before he walked out with Namjoon behind him. Once inside the car, he threw the case on the backseat as he turned on the engine, driving off to their HQ. The Master will be pleased when he'll see that he managed to get his hands on some important files from the enemy's company.
'So... Intimidation is your thing.' Namjoon said, tapping his finger on his knee as Jeongguk just nodded, looking straight ahead on the road and they stayed silent for the rest of the ride.
Jeongguk got to Yoongi's office with the briefcase in his hand and Namjoon behind him. Yoongi was smiling as he watched the younger place the case on his desk.
'Good job, my student. I trust he will stay quiet.' Yoongi spoke.
'Of course, Mentor.' Jeongguk bowed.
'You should've seen him, Yoongs.' Namjoon chuckled. 'Now, I know why you speak so highly of him.' He nodded.
'I know.' Yoongi smiled proudly. 'He's my best student.' He praised, watching as Jeongguk turned slightly pink at the compliment.
'If I may, Master, tonight Kim Yuri will be attending a charity ball, downtown which will be the perfect time for me to strike. I must get ready.' Jeongguk said, waiting for approval to be excused.
'Of course, you may leave.' The older bowed his head.
As soon as the older gave him permission, he went out and back to his apartment to plan how he will make his move. He had to dress formally to blend with the crowd and get the occasion to get closer to her without raising any suspicion.
