Nineteen

The first thing that Jeongguk did that morning, as soon as he woke up, was to search for his Master. He barely slept the whole night, thinking almost obsessively about what that message meant.

If it was true, that meant his father has been tortured for the past six years and just the thought alone made Jeongguk fume with anger. And if it was just a lie to play with his mind, he'd make sure to make Hoseok suffer for the cruelty he used against the young assassin.

Taehyung was now free to roam the quarters as much as he pleased with the condition to not leave the building. It was still dangerous for him to be alone but as long as he was within any assassin's line of sight he was safe. It also helped that he had some training and he could defend himself if it was the case of a surprise attack.

Just as Yoongi was about to send Jimin after Jeongguk to see him about the plan he had in mind to find out Hoseok's possible location, the young assassin entered the Master's headquarter looking too tired and troubled to wait for his superior's permission to speak.

'I need to know if my father is alive.' He demanded, stopping right before Yoongi; the only thing keeping the distance between them was the desk where Yoongi was busy reading the other assassins' reports.

Jeongguk didn't even notice Jimin standing next to the door, guarding it as the younger stormed in, eager to find the answers. He was too lost in his thoughts to pay attention to his surroundings. And truth be told, he didn't even care if his fellow assassin heard their conversation. He was more interested in finding the answer than worrying about secrecy at this point.

'Jeongguk. Why are you asking me this? You know he isn't. We've had a funeral and made all the preparations needed. What made you question this?' Yoongi frowned at the odd request.

He didn't expect Jeongguk to find out and he knew Jimin couldn't have told him.

He trusted Jimin.

'Last night I received a message from our target, Jung Hoseok, threatening to harm my father if we don't stop our search for him.' The young assassin pointed the older with a hard look, trying to read his reaction.

Something told Jeongguk that Yoongi wasn't entirely honest with him; like a voice inside of his brain, planting doubtful thoughts in his mind.

'And you don't believe him, do you? You can't let him play with your mind, Jeongguk. He's only doing it to get away from facing the consequences of his actions.' Yoongi explained, his features calm as he entwined his fingers on the desk, waiting for the younger's response.

'I don't want to but it just doesn't make sense. How does he know about my father? That was a long time ago. We barely even knew each other at that time.'

The room fell silent.

'There are lots of ways he could've found out, Jeongguk. Just like we research our targets, they do so as well to find that one weakness that could destroy the enemy.' Yoongi explained, hoping that the younger would just drop the subject and move on.

'Hm... Maybe...' Jeongguk narrowed his eyes for a second when the Master looked away, still not convinced by the answer he got.

Something wasn't right but he just couldn't put his finger on it. Yoongi was never avoiding eye contact and his odd behavior was raising some questions in the younger's head.

'It's good you came here though because I was just about to send Jimin to get you.' Yoongi stood up from his desk to walk the short distance to his window to overview the other assassins training in the backyard.

'Did something happen?' Jeongguk asked as he discreetly looked over the files scattered on the older's desk, aware of Jimin's presence in the room that could give him away.

He was looking for clues to confirm his suspicions. He needed to know what the others had found about Hoseok. The only way he could really find out if there were any news regarding the search was to ask Jimin, though he doubted the older would tell him anything willingly. But he had to at least try before using other methods of persuasion.

'There might be a way to find out about Hoseok's plans and location.' The Master started slowly, hesitant.

'I'm listening.' Jeongguk urged the older to continue.

'If his boss is Taehyung's uncle and Mr. Kim left Taehyung in charge of his business, that means Taehyung is the only one who can find out about his whereabouts.' Yoongi turned to face the younger, though the look of annoyance that painted his face was telling the Master he didn't make the greatest decision.

'But he is not ready yet.' Jeongguk protested, feeling his blood boil just from the thought of having his boyfriend facing the bastards that treated him so lowly.

'There is no other way, Jeongguk. He must help us if he wants to be a part of the Brotherhood.' Yoongi stated authoritatively.

'I doubt he will answer Taehyung after he's been kidnaped and kept away for so long without given the chance of showing any sign of being alive. He'll figure it out the second he'll hear Taehyung's voice.' The young assassin stated, convinced that the plan will fail the second they'll put it into action. 'If he was able to find out about my father's death so quickly, this would be a piece of cake.'

'Maybe he won't. This is all we have and it's been weeks of looking around for clues that apparently don't exist. We have to take this chance.' The Master pointed him with a look of urgency. 'We have to find him as soon as possible, Jeongguk. Have Taehyung come down to my office when you see him.'

The only thing Jeongguk could do was to nod and turn away to leave for his quarter that he shared with the blond. He had to find a way of telling Taehyung the news without the older getting uncomfortable by the request.

'Fucking get him!' Taehyung yelled frustrated at the tv in front of him; the controller in his hand gripped to the point of almost breaking as he pressed the buttons heretically to make the animated assassin on the screen run faster to catch the thief.

Desynchronized was the only thing that could be seen as the scenery dissipated into a sea of white, the mission restarting from his last checkpoint.

'This is bullshit! How hard is it to run a little bit faster, stupid Ezio guy.' He tried again.

Jeongguk witnessed his boyfriend's small fit of frustration from the hallway, watching with wide eyes as Taehyung went back to playing the game as if nothing ever happened.

'Wow, babe. Promise me that if I'm ever out and leave you to play difficult levels on games I will still find my tv whole.' He said amused, the playfulness in his voice making Taehyung frown at his mockery.

The blond paused the game to avoid failing the mission -again- as he scolded the other.

'Yah! It's not my fault the game is stupid and impossible to play.' He got up to meet Jeongguk in the middle of the living room to give him a quick kiss as a welcome back home greeting before the younger went into the kitchen to get a bottle of water.

'It's not the game's fault, Tae. You're just bad at it. Face it.' He said chuckling as he passed by the couch where Taehyung resumed his position, reattempting at succeeding that mission.

'Fuck off.' He grumbled, too focused on the game to notice Jeongguk came back in the room to sit behind him as he sipped on his water, watching amused as the animated assassin kept stumbling into people, losing sight of the target and ultimately failing again. 'Gukkie! Why won't he move faster?! Help me!'

'Did you just ask me for a favor after telling me to fuck off? You have no shame.' He laughed out loud as he circled the couch to sit next to Taehyung. 'But because I'm an awesome boyfriend,' He leaned in to peck Taehyung's cheek loudly, 'I will do it.'

Jeongguk took the controller from the blond as Taehyung tried to hide the wide grin threatening to show off, proud of succeeding in charming his boyfriend yet again to do the things he wanted.

It was a piece of cake for the younger to finish the quest in a little over 30 seconds, achieving a prize at the end that he knew Taehyung wanted in every game; hidden tombs missions. As soon as the screen turned back to the menu, the blond latched his arms around Jeongguk's neck, pulling him closer to kiss his cheek affectionately as a thank you

'Thank you, baby.' He cooed in the younger's ear, nibbling at the small piercings he had there. 'You're the best.'

'Mh...' Jeongguk wrapped an arm around the other's legs to bring them in his lap, massaging the ankles gently. 'Actually, I have something to talk to you about.'

'Yes?' Taehyung was too busy playing with the small round hoops in the younger's ear to focus fully on the conversation.

'Yoongi said he might have a lead to find Hoseok's location.'

'Oh? That's great. What is it?' He pulled back to pay attention to the younger, realizing it's a serious matter.

'You're really not gonna like it and I'm so sorry I got you into this but there's nothing I could do to change Yoongi's mind.' Jeongguk directed his gaze to the older's feet, avoiding eye contact.

'Babe, what is it? You're scaring me.' Taehyung frowned, genuinely concerned about what the Master's orders might be.

'Our Master believes that you can draw him out of hiding or at least persuade him into giving up his location. But I know how hard it is for you to get involved with him again, so I tried to convince Yoongi to drop it because Hoseok won't fall that easily for that but he didn't care.' The younger looked down at his lap, somehow ashamed of his poor persuading skills.

'Hey, it's okay. I may not like talking to those guys again but it's for a good cause. I will do it.' Taehyung hooked his index under Jeongguk's chin to bring their faces to eye level and make the other look into his eyes. 'I'll be fine, I promise.' He placed a short and sweet kiss on the other's lips, smiling assuringly.

'I know but I'm still not okay with it. I don't like seeing you upset, Tae.'

'I won't be. It's just a phone call, Guk. It's not like I have to meet up with the bastard.' Taehyung chuckled to lighten up the mood.

'Alright. But you still need to see Yoongi because he wants to tell you this himself along with some other details about the mission.' Jeongguk leaned his head on the blond's shoulder, nosing at his neck and breathing in the sweet coconut scent.

'I will. In a minute.' He smiled, placing a kiss on top of the younger's head as he started swinging their bodies in a slow rhythm, enjoying each other's company in a comfortable silence.

~

The phone buzzed again but Yoongi was too busy monitoring the young couple to notice the recent notification. In his left hand, he held the round artifact that Jeongguk brought him when he captured Taehyung, that was now shining brightly. A smirk played on the older's lips as he watched the two boys cuddling on the couch while playing video games; every now and then sharing a short kiss of encouragement or victory.

It didn't sit well with Yoongi, seeing how much Taehyung was affecting Jeongguk in every decision he had to make but he also couldn't do anything to jeopardize his relationship with the young assassin since he was the only reliable member of the Brotherhood who was truly dedicated to the Order and would do anything the Master would ask for.

His strength was superior to the other assassins and would almost compete with the one of a master's. That was slightly worrying Yoongi that if he ever did something wrong by the younger, Jeongguk would fight back and he didn't want to test his theory.

A second notification got the Master's attention. A series of texts from Jimin, asking if he had time to see him. Although Jimin knew that he didn't need to ask for permission anymore since Yoongi advised him to drop by anytime he wanted to help the older with paperwork but Jimin was being respectful, waiting for permission every time.

Before answering the text, Yoongi made sure to hide the Apple away from the other's eyes, avoiding raising any suspicions among the other assassins. He didn't know if some of them might have realized just how much power the artifact held inside its shell.

In no time, Jimin was knocking on the door, waiting for the signal to enter the room and see the older. As soon as he walked into the office, he had a shy smile on his face as he skipped towards the chairs in front of him.

'Hyung, I thought you might need some help with work. What do you need me to do?' Jimin asked, eager to please.

'I actually have something for you to do, Jimin.' Yoongi said, opening the first drawer of his desk and getting out a file from the stack. 'In this file, you'll find the safe houses that Hoseok's using to stack the drugs although they were confirmed to be abandoned. I believe there might be something left behind that could give us a hint about his next move.' He handed over the papers for Jimin to read through them.

'Alright. I'll get to it right away.' The younger got up, heading toward the door when Yoongi interrupted him.

'Take Namjoon with you just in case. I don't want you alone since there's a chance it might be a trap.'

'Yes, Master.' Jimin bowed politely before turning the handle and opening the door.

The first thing he saw as soon as the door was open was Jeongguk's frowning face while he let go of Taehyung's hand, the blond walking past Jimin to Yoongi's office. Just from the look in the younger's eyes, the redhead knew his secret wasn't safe anymore and the thought of being questioned by the raven made goosebumps rise on his skin.

'Jimin. Let's take a walk, shall we?' The formality in his words was contradicting the look he gave Jimin and it was safe to say that his heart might have skipped a beat at the proposal.

'A-alright.' He swallowed thickly and prayed it would all go well.
