|Rich helper| - Desmond Miles
Desmond Miles x Reader

It was never supposed to turn out the way it did.
You supported everything he did. If he wanted to go into the animus all day, then you would hold his hand and smile, telling him you were right there with him. He loved you, you loved him. Yet, you didn't feel the love.
First it was Ezio. He never paid attention to you. Every now and then he would pat your back, smile, and go back to the past with his Italian buddy. Lucy didn't help the feeling of loneliness as well. Desmond, do this. Desmond, do that. Desmond, stay inside the animus so I can make your girlfriend feel like dirt while you're completely oblivious.
Then after being on the run constantly, hiding from Abstergo and the Templars, you all found the apple. Then after stabbing Lucy in the stomach, not by his own will, Desmond falls into a coma and you're left all alone with Shaun and Rebecca.
Time skims by and you fight the urge to yell out, scream and cry. When would it stop? You hope it would soon because you didn't think you could take anymore. Now he's all over Connor Kenway and yet again, you're left alone like always. But what could you do? He was trying to save the world, along with his dad, Shaun and Rebecca. You didn't want to be selfish, you didn't want to start a fight that you knew you wouldn't - couldn't win. If he wanted to save the world, then you weren't going to stop him out of greed.
Sitting outside of the cave entrance, you let a heavy sigh pass through your lips, dull eyes watching the blue sky. You put your hands out behind you, palms placed firmly on the dirt as your shoulders roll into a stretch. You close your eyes, just enjoying the peace and quiet, not realizing that someone was walking up.
"What are you doing up here all alone?"
Your eyes snap open and your breath hitches, turning around to see Shaun standing there with a perplexed expression. He crosses his arms, looking down at you with those cold eyes of his.
"Enjoying the peace. Oh, and the part where I'm not being bossed around by a tiny child I know." You jester to him, a small, mocking smile tugging at your lips.
"Well aren't you a little ray of sunshine, (Y/n)." He retorts, pushing up his black glasses.
"My goal is to be the bright sun in the shy!" You exclaim, giving him a sarcastic eye roll.
Shaun looks around, peeking up at the sky and scratching the back of his head, looking really confused. You knew exactly what he was doing, giving him a nasty glare.
"Sorry, but I don't see a sun anywhere."
You stand up, dusting off the dirt and pulling up your sleeves, ready to punch this guys nose right off. He knew you were snappy but decided it would be a good idea and mock you anyway. You lift up a fist, a heavy blush spread across your face. He lifts a brow, his usually icy eyes softening at the tears gathering at the bottom of your eyes, fists starting to shake. You drop your hands to your sides, deciding it would be best to just give it up. And even if you did get a good hit at Mr. Bossy, he still could've won. Even for a nerd like himself, he was still pretty buff and could whoop someone if needed.
"Just... go away, Shaun." You hiss quietly, turning your head away and avoiding eye contact.
He lets out a frustrated sounding huff, shrugging and heading back inside the cave, not before giving you a soft smile. You blink multiple times, trying to rid the tears that wanted to spill from your eyes. Were your eyes deceiving you? Did he just give you a normal smile without having some snappy comment follow after?
You curl your hands up to your chest and keep your eyes on the ground, tears pricking at your orbs once more. You finally burst over all of the time you bottled everything up. Silently crying, you hear more footsteps approaching. You hoped it wasn't Shaun again. This time, you would punch his nose off.
"Shaun, I'm not playing this game-..." You turn around only to come face to face with Desmond.
Your eyes widen, unable to get out anything except exactly what was racing through your mind.
"Oh crap," you nearly yell, stumbling backwards.
You quickly dry the tears away with the sleeves of your shirt, face flushed red and eyes pooling with fear that he would judge. What you feared most was him asking if you were okay or not. If he did, you might as well give up and spill. You lift up a hand, mouth open and ready to give some excuse. Desmond watches you, his lips curling into a knowing smile. When you can't come up with anything, you keep your head down.
"Ugh, there was something in my eye." You look up through the hair hanging over your eyes, giving a sheepish smile.
"Yeah, tears." He speaks up.
You bite the inside of your cheek, looking over to the side with saddened eyes. Desmond walks over and wraps his arms around you, your face now buried into his slowly rising and falling chest. If you had to admit one thing, then you would admit that being close to him again made you feel loved once more. You instantly wrap your slim arms around him in return, eyes squeezed shut.
"If you're upset, you can come to me you know that right?" He pats pulls back just enough to get a good look at your red face.
"Who told you I was upset?" You scoff.
"Thanks, Shaun!" Desmond cranes his head back, thanking back the person standing there with crosses arms.
"Whatever." Shaun waves his hand, heading back inside the cave for the rest of the day.
Desmond looks back to you with a child-like smile, one that made your heart melt and your brain turn to mush. You rarely got to see him smile, so him grinning down at you made everything feel right again.
"I'm sorry I've been neglecting you, (Y/n). But work has to be done. Just remember, I'm here for you..." He pauses. "When I can."
You shake your head, pulling him back close again with a happy smile on your face. Back inside the cave, Rebecca holds out her hand, waiting for Shaun to pay up.
"They made up. Give me." She rolls her fingers into her palm before rolling them back out straight.
Shaun groans, digging around in his pocket and pulling out a quarter. Rebecca purses her lips, giving a: 'really?' face.
"A quarter? Really?" She laughs, pocketing the money.
"Shut up, Becca. Do your work, please." He marches off back to his work station.
"SHAUN IS RICH!" Rebecca yells, catching the attention of everyone...
Including you and Desmond who were outside of the cave, just smiling at each other. Later that day, he promised he would never leave you alone, no matter how distant he was. He promised you two would be together for a long time after he saved the world. You believed every word he said.
But we all know how that ended... how he ended.

Ugh, I'm still trying to get over Desmond's death. I cried for days, tbh.
My favorite character, gone. My heart still hurts.
