( captain america: the winter soldier )

"WHO AM I staking out again?"

A loud sigh came from the other side of her comm. "A possible HYDRA agent. You did say you wanted to help Romanoff and Rogers, right? This is a way to do it, using your vision for the greater good."

"Sometimes I wonder how we're related."

"I take offense to that."

"Yeah, yeah." She scanned the crowds at the bar, looking for her target and possibly her target's target. Every life counted when SHIELD and HYDRA were fighting their fight once again, bringing other agencies into the mix.

Spotting her guy, her back straightened slightly. "Alex, I have eyes on the target."

"Great! Just get him out and-"

"Hey, beautiful."

Chloe, trying hard not to pay attention to the obviously drunk man, felt her eyes roll dramatically at the poor soul. Facing the creep, she smiled as sarcastically and sickly sweet as she could. "Not to be rude or anything, but kindly fuck off."

The Frye heard a snort on the other line.

Turning back to face her target, she felt the man place a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, why don't you and I-"

Before the man could finish, Chloe shoved the man's head onto the wooden table and pushed him onto the ground, leaving him unconscious. She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Men."

"Hey!"

"Not you, you idiot. Now, what next?"

After disposing the body of the ex-HYDRA agent, Chloe followed Alex's instructions to the hospital Natasha and Steve were at. The two argued silently over how the youngest cousin would tell an ex-Red Room agent that they tagged her, but Alex opted to not tell her at all.

"I'm just saying, I value your life as much as you value yours."

Chloe observed as one angry Steve Rogers forcibly shoved Natasha Romanoff into a secluded room, making the teenager shift slightly.

"You okay?"

"Have you ever dealt with a pissed off super-soldier?"

"Oh, yeah, good luck with that."

Taking a deep breath, the young Assassin raised her hood and wiped the smile off of her own face. It was time for her to do her job. Opening the door, Chloe walked in to see the two Avengers argue over something unknown to her.

"I bet you knew Fury hired the pirates, didn't you?"  Steve questioned.

Making eye contact with the red headed assassin, Chloe nodded at the older woman, silently asking to keep her presence silent. Seeming to get the message, Natasha carried on with her argument. "Well, it makes sense. The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in. So did you."

"I'm not going to ask you again." Steve threatened, making Chloe visibly tense.

"I know who killed Fury." That statement alone allowed Romanoff to be let go of Steve's hold. Natasha continued. "Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists, the ones that do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years."

"More if you count recent years." Chloe said, making her presence known, her voice cold and smooth.

Capturing the attention of the Captain, the seventeen-year-old looked at Natasha, sensing her story wasn't over.

"Five years ago," Natasha continued, "I was escorting a nuclear engineer our of Iran. Somebody shot out my entire neuro desa, we lost control, went straight over a cliff. I pulled us out, but the Winter Soldier was there. I was covering my engineer, so he shot him straight through me." Natasha lifted up her shirt, exposing her scar cause by the bullet on her stomach. "Soviet slug, no rifling. Bye-bye bikinis."

"Yeah, I bet you look horribly in them now." Steve grumbled.

"Going after him's a dead end. I know, I've tried. He's a ghost story." glancing to the teenager behind Steve, she added on. "I was just lucky two people in white jackets were there to save me, like the same white jacket our mystery friend is wearing now."

Chloe smirked at the two Avengers, both their attention settling on the Assassin. "What do you want to know?"

"Who are you?" Steve questioned.

Chloe hesitated, asking if she really about to blow her cover to a bunch of strangers.

Would they even be able to keep a secret?

"Depends on what you're asking. Do you want to know me, or the people I'm working with?"

"Both, preferably." Steve admitted.

Chloe looked at Natasha, nodding at the older assassin. There was a feeling, although tiny, that told her she could trust these strangers. "Natasha has her suspicions, I recommend you listen to her."

Natasha looked from Chloe to Steve. "You're an Assassin, am I correct?"

Chloe nodded, wondering how she knew this.

"Assassins are a select bunch of humans who have this sort of genome or something that give them these sort of... abilities. Their association is known to few and their works are legendary, almost as legendary of their current war. They're quite a few popular Assassins scattered throughout history."

Chloe nodded, confirming Natasha's beliefs. "The one I'd think you know of would be Lydia Frye, Steve."

Steve scrunched his face in confusion. "I knew a Lydia, she helped with my division."

Smirking, Chloe saluted mockingly. "Name's Chloe Frye. How may I be of assistance?"

She definitely didn't miss the glance shared between the two Avengers.

"First rule of going on the run is don't run, walk."

Chloe scanned the crowds of the mall, only paying half attention to Natasha. Her hood was down and she was on full alert. To say that Steve was surprised when she lowered her hood at the hospital was an understatement. The look he gave her was a surprised one, one that said he didn't expect a skilled Assassin under the mysterious hood was a seventeen-year-old. He was especially surprised when she practically threatened them to not tell a single living soul about her association.

Let's just say the adults complied.

The teenager archery acquirement and sword was back at the compound in her respective locker and did she miss it. The familiar weight was a concrete comfort for when she was working, but she didn't want the added attention of carrying a weapon out in the open.

"If I run with these shoes, they're gonna fall off," Steve complained.

The three walked into an Apple store, eyeing the computers lined up for sale. Rolling her eyes, Chloe returned to scanning the room before three heads caught her eyes. Specifically, her cousin, Rebecca, and Shaun.

Grumbling, she looked to the two adults next to her. "I'll be right back."

Steering her body to the right, the Frye strolled to the computers. Walking up to Alex, she tapped him on his shoulder, making him jump slightly. Turning around, Alex saw the slightly annoyed look on his younger cousin. "Hey, Chloe! So how's life?"

Narrowing her eyes, she looked over her cousin's shoulder to see Shaun and Rebecca hacking a computer. "What are you doing?"

Shaun glanced behind him to see the smaller Frye, nudging Rebecca slightly to capture her attention. "Rebecca thinks she has a trail on a Piece of Eden. Also, keep helping those two. It'll be nice to have more public allies in the war."

She followed Shaun's pointed finger to see Natasha and Steve talking to an employee, annoyance written across Romanoff's face for all to see.

"Yeah, okay. Call me if you find anything."

Receiving three nods, Chloe joined the two Avengers once again. Looking over Steve's shoulder, she saw the tracker locating on a single destination, a Camp Lehigh in New Jersey.

"New Jersey? What's in New Jersey?" Chloe asked the two adults.

"Do you know it?" Natasha asked an awed Steve.

"I used to."

Glancing around the room, Chloe saw the three others leave the store, a tick in the back of her mind. She felt twitchy and on edge, for reasons unknown to her.

Natasha grabbed her wrist, pulling her out of her daze. Her eyes still covered the three Assassins, a bad feeling settling in her gut. She three got on an escalator before Chloe saw a random man forcibly grab a hard drive out of Shaun's hand.

Chloe cursed, leaving the two's side. She jumped the railing and onto the platform, running past Shaun, Rebecca, and Alex, chasing after the thief.

The man was clever. He never ran in a direct line, always speeding up then slowing down. After reaching her desired distance, she pulled up her hood, propelling her body forwards and tackling him to the ground.

A few civilians scattered, surprised at the sudden act of violence. Chloe focused on the man and ripped the flash drive out of his hand.

"Bitch," the breathless man spoke.

Chloe smirked, punching the man and knocking him unconscious.

She looked up but did not expect to see what she did see.

"It is done."

She looked up and around, sighing. She saw the face of her ancestor, Jacob Frye, standing over his first main kill in London, Rupert Ferris.

She knew this would happen, all the scientists and engineers warned her. The minute she stepped out of the animus after going through a few trials, she would forever hold the memories of Jacob, no going back. Sometimes, his memories would spontaneously pop up out of nowhere. For example, in the middle of a chase.

"Oh?" Ferris spoke, earning an eye roll from Chloe. "What did you accomplish, boy? A bolt loosened in Starrick's machine, a large bolt... but not enough!"

"Your grandmaster will fall." Jacob countered.

"You Assassins can circle London to your heart's content. The mechanism we have built has been going strong for a hundred years and will run a thousand more. It is the very city itself."

"We will take London from your hands."

"From Croydon? You lurk in the shadows like a coward. I doubt it.

Those were the last words spoken by Ferris, and the last few moments of the small memory. Seeing the white light fade away, the young Assassin looked up to see no time passed at all.

She stood up quickly and ran to where Rebecca was standing, tossing the flash drive to her. "Good luck!"

Chloe turned around again, running towards the ledge. She launched her body over the ledge, landing on her hands and feet. The woman lowered her hood and disappeared into the crowd, making her way to the Avengers walking through the doors.
