Hide and seek gone wrong.

(A/n: Until Ratonhnaké:ton/Connor and Dyami:ton/James leaves to find the assassin's he will be referred to as Ratonhnhaké:ton for now.)

Kaniehť:io pov.

The children had grown inside me. Then they entered the world. Ratonhnhaké:ton had some of his fathers features but enough of mine to be seen as more than a stranger. Dyami:ton on the other hand had many of of fathers features. Light skin green eyes and dark hair. It mattered not though both were loved equally among my tribe. I miss Haytham sometimes. He may have lived me even in his own way. But his eyes.... His eyes were ever fixed upon the future. One which he and his Templar brethren controlled all. NY greatest fear is one day I shall see that look in their eyes. The same dark hunger.

No one pov.

Ratonhnhaké:ton and Dyami:ton stood in the main hut shoulder to shoulder as they read a book bought from when their father had been with Kaniehť:io. Dyami:ton was fascinated with the strange words of foreign writing when Ratonhnhaké:ton snapped the book shut and threw it away. Confused Dyami:ton turned around to see their mother standing their confused.

"Good morning mother." The boys spoken in union Dyami:ton held up a smile as Ratonhnhaké:ton stayed straight faced.

"Hmmm.. And what were you watching 2 up to?" Kaniehť:io asked already knowing.

"We were uh... we were only-" Ratonhnhaké:ton stuttered as Dyami:ton let his older twin take the lead.

"Come play with us!  The others have gone hunting and we're bored." Kanen'tó:kon poked out around the corner of the door as Dyami:ton sighed in relief before looking back at his mother. Ratonhnhaké:ton stepped around her cautiously as Dyami:ton looked back and forth.

"Go on both of you. But do not venture beyond the village." Kaniehť:io sighed letting her sons go as they laughed running past elders who gave instructions and smiles to the children. As they left the village gates Dyami:ton stopped.

"Mom said not to leave the village." He echoed as Ratonhnhaké:ton kept going trying to coax his brother to follow. "Fine but let's just be safe please." He relented following as they picked up sticks to pick for hide and seek.

"You're it." Kanen'tó:kon said gleefully as the others ran and hid. Dyami:ton ran and jumped into a pile of sticks and leaves waiting for what felt like 5 minutes before being pulled out by his brother. He smiled as he knew his brother had caught the others already without fail. Ratonhnhaké:ton was good like that. They went back to the straws and drew again. Kanen'tó:kon drew this time as the children dispersed. Ratonhnhaké:ton and Dyami:ton ran in the same direction as the older twin jumped into a bush. Dyami:ton climbed a tree above him as he watched stifling his giggling. Seconds turned to minutes as they waited for Kanen'tó:kon to find them.

"What have we here?" A smooth foregin voice spoke as Dyami:ton looked down seeing his brother get thrown by a light colored skinned man. He watched as 2 more men appeared wearing strange clothes. One man with a pony tail flipped over Ratonhnhaké:ton as the young boy stayed silent.

"You look... Familiar. Where have I seen you before?" He asked with genuine curiosity. Ratonhnhaké:ton spit in the man's face as Dyami:ton smiled before hearing his brother speak their language as he was dragged.

"LET ME GO!" He cried as the man holding him laughed.

"Hear that? He speaks English."

"Smart for a savage." The man with a strange hat said spitting away.

"Spirited too!" He grunted picking up Ratonhnhaké:ton who kicked and squirmed unsuccessful. Dyami:ton jumped to another branch trying to follow when the branch he leapt too broke.

"AHH!" He cried before landing hard on the ground face down out of breathe.

"Ah one of your friends?" The man with the funny hat said before flipping him over and gave a look of confusion.

"Bring him here." The man with the pony tail said as the boy was picked up and brought to their leader.

"Ya know he looks awfully familiar too." The funny hat man said tilting his head.

"He looks like.... Haytham." The third said staring at the boys.

"It doesn't matter. Tell us where your village is so we can question your elders. Then you can go." The man holding his brother asked sinisterly. Giving his brother a quick look Dyami:ton sent a kick into the side of the funny hat man who cursed and threw him into a tree. His head impacted first and he fell limp. Ratonhnhaké:ton started  to struggle more as the man holding him tightened his grip around the boys throat. He started to go into a speech about how ignorant and savage his people were. How they were nothing. Before dropping Ratonhnhaké:ton he gave him an ultimatim. "In return for your life's tell your village elders that if we are given what we want the sooner you can go back to your ignorant ways. A fair deal is it not?"

"What is your name?" Ratonhnhaké:ton asked as he crawled over to his brother who was breathing slowly and unconscious.

"Charles Lee. Why do you ask?" His voice held delight.

"So I can find you." Ratonhnhaké:ton said as Charles stood up straight before laughing.

"I look forward to it." Then he motioned to his underlings who then used his long metal stick to smack Ratonhnhaké:ton unconscious as well. The last words he heard were this.

"What should we do with the otha kid?"

"Good question."

Half an hour later both boys awoke to the smell of smoke. Ratonhnhaké:ton got up quickly and looked over his brother who had a deep cut on his head. "Brother are you okay?"

"I'll be fine. Go get the hunters. Let them know what happened." Dyami:ton coughed slightly as Ratonhnhaké:ton got up and pulled his brother up having him lean on his shoulder. "Why is there smoke?"

"I do not know. We need to get back." They then hurried as fast as they can back to see the village on fire. An adult saw them and rushed over grabbing Dyami:ton who fell unconscious again.

"Where's mother?" Ratonhnhaké:ton asked as the adult didn't know what to say and rushed off to a healer. Ratonhnhaké:ton then ran through the village to find his mother's hut on fire and a cry coming from within. Fear was aided by adrenaline as the boy rushed around the fire to try and get inside. When he did he was horrified to find his mother bloody and trapped under debris. He rushed over trying to lift it up as his mother grabbed his arm.

"Where is your brother?" She asked her words forceful with fear.

"One of the healers has him." A breathe of relief exited his mother's lips.

"Go get out of here. You must leave. Save yourself."

"NO!" Ratonhnhaké:ton cried as he tried harder and harder to lift the debris. His mother then grabbed his hand making him stop.

"You must ne strong. You must be brave." Kaniehť:io said to her child as Ratonhnhaké:ton cried protesting. "You must be for both you and your brother. You may think yourself alone but I will always be with you. Both of you know go!" She commanded of her child as a man grabbed him and ran out as the place collapsed around her. Ratonhnhaké:ton cried and fought against the hold. "I love you both." Kaniehť:io said despite the fire being louder than her.

Hours later Ratonhnhaké:ton sat beside his brother in one of the untouched huts. Dyami:ton lay there breathing slowly asleep. A healer came by occasionally dressing the wound on his head. Sleep never came as he stared. All he could do was feel helpless as visions of his mother dying plagued his mind. Coughing broke him of his trance seeing Dyami:ton wake up.

"Dyami:ton!" Ratonhnhaké:ton cried as his brother give a confused look.

"What happened where's mother?" He asked as the tears welled up in Ratonhnhaké:tons eyes.

"She's gone."
