feathers and a visit from nature

No one pov.

It had been 9 years since that faithful day. The boys are now becoming men. Right now they wait for their friend to join so they may prepare for tonight. Ratonhnhaké:ton sat meditating on a stump overlooking a cliff facing the village as Dyami:ton his brother sat in a tree petting a bald eagle in silence. Despite giving the occasional glance over the brothers bothered neither one. Ever since their mothers death the brothers went to different paths. Ratonhnhaké:ton buried himself in belief and tradition training to be a great hunter and tracker to protect the village. Dyami:ton distanced himself from others as he grew up learning to be a great fighter and hunter like his brother. He regularly left the village and slept in the wilderness feeling as if he didn't belong. He really connected with nature and learned easily how to sneak effectively.

"Peace!" Kanen'tó:kon called out as Ratonhnhaké:ton didn't react. Dyami:ton jumped out of a tree and smiled showing off his self made armor.

"You're late." Ratonhnhaké:ton stated plainly as Kanen'tó:kon looked away.

"Sorry. Are you ready?" He asked the brothers who nodded. Dyami:ton pulled out his bow and pulled on the string.

"Come we have much work to do. The clan mother has asked us to gather materials for tonight." Ratonhnhaké:ton explained as his brother nodded. Something that was far to common. Ratonhnhaké:ton would lead the conversation as his brother stayed silent.

"What should we start with then?"

"Feathers. We'll Scout the area for bird nests from up there." Ratonhnhaké:ton stated as they then set off jumping through the forest like  jaguars leaping from branch to branch.

"How are you 2 so effortless?" Kanen'tó:kon asked knowing the answer but hoping for something he could use to help him be better.

"It's in our blood." Ratonhnhaké:ton said over his shoulder observing the landscape of the valley before jumping to more trees chasing a loose feather as it drifted in the wind. Dyami:ton let the wind blow through his hair as he watched silently. His brother and Kanen'tó:kon had forged ahead gathering more feathers when he looked down seeing a beautiful elk eating from a berry bush. Taking in a deep breathe he said a silent pray to his ancestors before jumping from the high tree pulling out his stone knife. The wind rushed past his ears as he fell. Then as if in a instant he plunged his knife into the head of the elk comforting his landing.

"Peace be with your spirit." Dyami:ton said as he then started the tedious task of skinning the elk. The sun set as he realized he had not collected any feathers he cursed under his breathe before turning and picking up the bones of the elk noticing Ratonhnhaké:ton and Kanen'tó:kon approach him.

"Ah I see you already got the rest of the skins for the ritual. It's a good thing we collected more than enough feathers." Ratonhnhaké:ton stated as his brother smiled.

"Thank you. I appreciate it." Dyami:ton smiled as their friend looked surprised.

"It's been awhile since I last heard you speak."

"That's because words are only worthy when they need to be said." Dyami:ton explained before they walked back to the village. When they entered the ritual was being prepared as singing could be heard. Kanen'tó:kon left to do something on his own as the brothers dropped off everything for the ritual later.

When the sun set the brothers approached the clan mother bowing. She ushered them in with a smile and sat down around a large fire Ratonhnhaké:ton say 5 feet away from the flame as the light danced on his face. Dyami:ton sat a bit closer and looked up.

"I know you wonder why we do not wander beyond these woods. Why we do not join the other Kanien'kehá:ka in war." The elder sat down with the help of her staff in front of the flame. "Tonight you will both have your answers. Our village sits on sacred ground. And it is our duty above all other things to keep it hidden from the world."

"Even if it means our enemies gather in strength?" Ratonhnhaké:ton asked.

"It is a difficult position for us. We are caught between the need to act and the knowledge that doing so endangers us." The elder stated with a a sigh. She then stood up again.

"What is so important it imprisons us?" Dyami:ton asked as she opened a box pulling out a clear orb handing it to Ratonhnhaké:ton. Dyami:ton putt a hand on it as Ratonhnhaké:ton looked up.

"What is it?" The older brother asked as beams of light appeared from it frightening both boys.

"A door." The clan mother said.

(Watch to 5:30 cause this entire mission is like a hard to explain drug trip and no amount of words I can produce will do it justice. Also only Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor sees this Dyami:ton/James saw something else.)

The 2 brothers awoke to see the sky. Ratonhnhaké:ton looked around to see the clan mother as Dyami:ton stayed laying down. His older brother then started to draw the symbol he saw in the visions. The loose dirt let the symbol be shown easily.

"Where Ratonhnhaké:ton? Where did you see that symbol?" The clan mother asked as he looked up at her.

"The spirits showed it to me. She said I would meet a man who would show us the way forward." Ratonhnhaké:ton stated stoticly.

"You and you're brother saw it both?"

"Yes and No." Dyami:ton spoke loudly staring at the sky. "The spirit said to follow him though."

"What did you see?" Ratonhnhaké:ton asked as a look of concern shown on his face.

"I was an eagle. Hunting and stalking. The spirit showed me a past I recognized. It was strange. They spoke a language I couldn't understand but somehow knew." Dyami:ton explained as he sat up.

"Hmmm." The clan mother set down 2 bed rolls.

"The men from beyond the valley will return soon. I've known for some ti.e now. And so have you. Even if you choose to ignore it." Ratonhnhaké:ton explained looking over to the nearby stream.

"We must do something to save our people." Dyami:ton got up and leaned against a tree.

"We are sworn to protect this place. But you and your brother are right as well." The clan mother explained. "The world is changing and we can not stay hidden forever." She followed Ratonhnhaké:tons gaze.

"I will not sit here and wait for our end." The older brother argued.

"Then I release both of you. You may leave." The clan mother spoke solemnly as both looked confused.

"What changed?" Dyami:ton asked as he stood up straight.

"Because I cannot change yours." She laughed slightly as the younger brother smirked. "You'll find what you seek to the east. It was there I saw the symbol. It was borne of a man who will surely help you as he once helped your mother." She handed over the 2 bed rolls as the boys nodded there heads in kindness. She then stood walking away as the the youngest helped the oldest off the ground.

"I'll go get some furs and meat for the journey." Dyami:ton said picking up his bow before stalking into the forest.
