Publishing Tips and Tricks
For December's tips and tricks, our topic discussion is 'Networking'. It's a simple trick to end the year and branch off into the new year!
Ⅰ) What does it mean to network? To network means to connect with others, in simplest terms. Mostly used to meet those within the same profession as you, or whatever it is that is being bonded over. This doesn't necessarily have to chalk up to personal friendship but it's always good to have people in your corner, whether it's as acquaintances, business friends, or whatever the case! Establishing a healthy professional relationship is important.
Ⅱ) How do I network as a writer? When trying to network and build relationships with other writers, finding a space where all of you are gathered in one place is generally a good start. Wattpad, for instance, is an entire network in and out of itself. It's full of writers – some of which may be authors within the same genre as you. Reading books from these authors, following these authors, etc. is a means to show support.
Of course, Wattpad isn't the only place to do this! You can follow authors on social media, or whatever other avenue/platform where authors are gathered. There are writers groups online where you can provide and receive support from your peers. Let it beta feedback, constructive criticism, and so on. If there are writing forums wherever you are, that's another good place to start.
Attending conferences is another good way to network with other authors! Wattcon, for example, recently returned this year. Writersconx is yet another example – especially since it was hosted online for the Wattpad community. Conferences such as those are ways to meet authors you may look up to or perhaps authors you've never even met before. It's practically a chance to give and learn, and grow personal connections.
