Saimatsu met in the first chapter of "WRWWWV3" Kaede was a a new transfer student who happened to be in Shuichi's class. They started off on a bad note due to there different opinions on Danganronpa. Kaede was then almost raped but Shuichi saved her. As thanks, Kaede asked him out on a date. Neither were enthusiastic about it until they knew each other more. Between Chapters 3-7 they buried the hatch and got together.

Fun fact: They had sex for the first time in chapter 10

Kaito and Maki met when they were paired for a school project in chapter 4-
