"Of course I want to continue on my hero path. But it's not for him. It's for me, and for my Mother. I wanted to be a hero from the very beginning. Even before I knew my Father's plans for me." Shouto said. "And saving and helping people was obviously part of that as well. But.. I was mainly concerned about saving my Mother." His tone was steadily becoming colder. "I wanted to save her. I wanted to save her from the abusive man she was forced to marry, I wanted to save her from the life she was forced to live, and I wanted to save her from the guilt that Enji made her feel when she didn't give him the children he wanted. He made her feel like a disappointment. Like it was her fault, and her fault only, that she couldn't give him the child he wanted."

"When I was born, and I was the child that he wanted, my Mother's life became better. It became bearable, at least. Up until I was three. All of the bullshit, abuse, and training began when I was three." He took a quiet deep breath, before continuing. "She was barely hanging on by a thread. I could tell that she loved me, but I could also tell that she was afraid.. Everything got to her when I was five, and she burned me. My Father immediately threw her into the furthest mental hospital. She had ruined his 'perfect creation'. His 'masterpiece.'. I was allowed to visit her once a week, thanks to my sister- whom my Father actually tolerates- demanding that a boy should be able to see his Mother."

"I have long since forgiven my Mother for harming me. It wasn't her fault, not really. And every time I see her, she asks about my children, about my husband and fiances. She is proud of the man I've become, and I am so proud of the woman she is turning back into. She is so strong, and I aspire to be as strong and dedicated as she is."
