Space.
The vast outer limits of our atmosphere
Home to billions and trillions of stars
Galaxies
Planets
Suns and moons
Solar systems.
All unknown to us for we don't have the technology to explore its farthest reaches, even if we did we wouldn't be able to get the information back home in time
For time is stretched like taffy and almost doesn't exist in that cold abyss.
The farther you are away from your home planet the more time passes.
If you had a twin and you went out into space you would look younger than him or her after a few years,
Because time is barely a factor in space.
Time almost doesn't matter in space.
Space doesn't care.
Though the two are conjoined in some way, 'floating through space and time' they always have a deeper meaning when in the same sentence.
Though, with space, distance and time go hand in hand.
Distance is rather important.
The farther you are the more time is lost.
2 miles away from our atmosphere for 2 minutes could be 2 hours on earth.
Could be, may be more.
But enough about time and distance, let's go back to space.
There's so much out there, beyond our reach and imagination, that we want to discover it.
Explore it.
Claim it.
But why?
Why do we want to leave our home planet, to interfere with another, when it doesn't concern us?
Why did the speculation of water on Mars make us think there would be life there?
Why, with all the hazards on these very planets in our own solar system,
Jupiter with its gassy atmosphere and tense electromagnetic fields
Venus and her hot ass self being so close to the sun,
That we have the need to go to these planets and other solar systems, galaxies, and explore, with the risk of ourselves dieing or never coming back home?
Then our journey would be for nothing.
I understand as a human we have the urge to learn, the need to know, but that brings me to another theory.
What if the urge we have to go into outer space is not about gaining knowledge, but to find life?
Well both reasons I understand but I find the latter more terrifying.
We've developed this thinking that aliens or advanced life forms are out there though some persist to ignore it.
Space is both the most beautiful yet heart paralyzing thing we have ever known.
With the thought of man leaving earth for the sake of finding life, let me leave you with this question.
Which is more terrifying to you, the thought of being alone in this vast black expanse on a floating blue speck revolving a pinprick of fire with more specks or different colors, and this collection of specks is part of a congregation of specks which is part of a whole constellation of specks?
Or to be neighbours with extraterrestrials whom we don't know the true nature of, if they will assist in our way of living or rid us of our freedom, to coexist with us or eradicate our race, or just continue to watch in silence without helping guiding us with our planetary difficulties?
The vid at the top speaks to me, watch it if you want. It's inspiring to say the least.
