Conflicting Memories
Red-RazzleBerry Jack what is your favorite childhood memory? David what is your worst childhood memory?
Jack stood completely still, unsure of how to answer.
"There... aren't very many," Jack mumbled. David had a sad look on his face, he honestly felt horrible for Jack.
"Are you okay?" David asked, looking up at Jack. Jack looked down at David and mentally panicked once he saw that he was making David worry about him.
"Yes, I am fine, my sincerest apologies for concerning you," Jack apologized.
"There's no need to apologize Jack," David smiled, trying to encourage Jack.
"Well... me and my sister were homeless for the longest time, and yet some of my best memories come from that time, we didn't have a lot of money, but my sister wanted nothing more than to become a seamstress," Jack paused for a second.
"Guess she got her wish," David chuckled.
"Yeah, anyways, I managed to save up enough money to buy her a needle, some spools of thread, and a few random fabric pieces for Christmas, I never saw her so happy before, she still thanks me for it," Jack laughed, drowning in nostalgia.
"That's a nice memory," David gave Jack a warm smile.
"It really is... family is sometimes all you have," Jack sighed. David's face suddenly dropped, thinking back to his family.
"My worst memory... this was when I was just starting middle school, I had a crush on this cute guy and I decided to put a note in his locker... after school he found me, called his friends, and they took turns beating me up," David frowned. Jack was horrified.
"David I'm so-"
"They knocked me out and my mom went looking for me, she scoured the streets until she found me beaten and bruised behind the school... my mom was amazing... she died a year later, and while I love my aunt, who I had to stay with, she could never take my mom's place," David bit his lip, holding back tears. Jack wasn't sure what he had expected, of course David had problems with his past, pretty much everyone in the red army did, and yet it still crushed him to hear David so distraught. He grabbed his hand and forced him to look at him. "David, I am incredibly sorry, you shine brighter than any of those bullies, and you do not deserve to have your light snuffed out," Jack whispered, entirely serious.
"Jack... you didn't deserve to be snuffed out either," David replied. Jack however could only focus on the fact that David said that in the past tense.
