13/ Depression and Anxiety
Hey Ella... I have a mild depression and anxiety. I almost never want to leave my house, and I barely eat anything... I don't know what to do about this... Please help?
This is definitely something that strikes home to me as I was going through an almost identical situation to you a few years ago. The first thing I should say is that progress will seem slow, but you'll start to feel better and more like your normal self soon. Although it may sound scary, the best thing you can do is tell someone you trust because the minute someone else knows, you feel like a massive weight has been lifted off you. Now you have a confidant, someone you can cry to or vent to, someone who understands that you don't want to leave the house.
The next step is to find something you love and really invest yourself into it, I wrote songs everyday and this allowed an outlet for my emotions. Maybe you'll find a new sport that you love, or that you enjoy painting or writing. Finding something you're good at will give you massive confidence which will help you to recover.
As for eating, start off slow- maybe try and eat some more vegetables or fruit everyday, maybe treat yourself to some chocolate. This will slowly progress into eating full meals, and you'll see yourself getting back to your normal energy levels. A balanced and healthy diet will massively help your mental health and give you far more energy.
My last suggestion is to keep a journal because this gives you an emotional outlet for your feelings; you can write down what makes you anxious and what makes you upset, and although it may sound stupid, the journal is someone who will listen to your problems unconditionally.
