OFFICIAL DISCLAIMER AND RULES PAGE
Writing is a form of communication. Henceforth, fanfiction, as fun as it is, is communication, sometimes at its very best.
The nature of fanfiction is obviously dubious, as it is fiction written about someone else's intellectual property, or quite frankly about somebody else in particular. Therefore, this page exists to clear up any confusion that might occur.
REGARDING FANFICTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Fanfiction of intellectual property (shows, cartoons, etc -- Aikatsu, Pokemon, NOT real people) are written with the assumption of no copyright infringement. When you are on Wattpad (or frankly FF.net/AO3), when you read a fanfiction, you know what you're getting yourself into. You understand that the nature of these sites proves that this is not the source material. As is standard, no monetary compensation is being made or will ever be made from anything posted on this account on Wattpad. If this account on Wattpad is closed, or if the author transfers to a different account or to a different site (read: AO3), this may change based on the nature of the fic in general.
The story construction and assembly are presented by and copyrighted by Asterhythm, pen name, 2019-current year, with limited right reservation. This story is free to copy for personal reading purposes (i.e. if you want one on your hard drive, if you want a printed copy) as long as there is no money made off of the copying. The reader does not have permission to re-upload this story to another site, or to manipulate the contents here within, or to translate, without the author's strict exclusive written permission. (Seriously, guys, just ask.) Unauthorized copying or plagiarism is considered theft and will be reported and prosecuted to the full extent made possible by Wattpad. This copyright notice is in effect for all works published on this author's profile, and is in effect both online and offline.
If you are the owner of the intellectual property and wish for any story with your property to be removed, please email a cease-and-desist letter to Wattpad, and they will forward it to the author, who will have the story removed for you.
The contents of this account are unrelated to any current copyright/trademark notice by Asterhythm under different names/legal names, and all intellectual property is considered separate and owned by the companies which created them. This may include original writing, artwork, and music that is separate from fan material. All rights are hereby reserved for those properties. Any legal action against the fanworks created by Asterhythm may not be taken against these owned, copyrighted and trademarked properties.
REGARDING REAL PERSON FICTION
Fanfiction of real people (usually K-Pop groups, let's be real here) are also written with the assumption of no copyright infringement. As real life changes, so may the circumstances for writing said fiction.
All fanfiction written about real life persons is applicable on an alternate universe basis only. Any and all resemblance to real life persons is STRICTLY fictional. Descriptions of celebrities may differ from real world circumstances on the regular, and normal deviances may occur, as is standard in fanfiction. Every effort is made to ensure that celebrities stay as in character as possible.
Writing about K-Pop celebrities in particular has its own set of tropes that transcends Korean culture. It is common practice to adopt these tropes, while glossing over the deeper facets of Korean life. (We all know who a maknae is and we all know what aegyo is, but I know nothing about the Joseon Dynasty.) While some tropes are inevitable and certainly make connecting with the audience easier, a certain finesse must be used in other areas. The author Asterhythm is committed to doing the cultural research when possible, but will not write about a culture that they do not know. The rules regarding writing K-Pop celebrities do not always extend to Korean culture in general. Therefore, it is near impossible that you will see a book on this account taking place in Seoul, or talking directly about Korean customs, as that is not the author's culture. Please see below on further cultural/racial notes.
Everybody has their own headcanons about K-Pop, music, and celebrities in general. Therefore, ALL headcanons (and pairings!) are valid unless they are directly harmful to the real person/band written about. The author celebrates all headcanons but reserves the right to cease reading any story for any reason, particularly if it is triggering or features character death.
ON THAT NOTE: The author has made the very conscious decision to not kill off any K-Pop idols in their stories. The author will NOT talk about this if you ask.
By reading the stories that the author has posted on this profile, and anywhere else on the Internet, you agree to participate in fandom discussions in appropriate places only, while making an effort not to alert the real companies or real idols involved. This includes engaging with idols regarding these stories. There is a clear divide between fiction and reality that must not be breached. If, at any point, any idol is made aware of a story that the author has written about them, outside of their own curiosity, this will be considered a breach. Examples include talking about the author's fanfiction on an idol's livestream, tagging the idol on social media to get them to see the book/serial in question, or other such acts. Fanfiction readers must be responsible consumers.
If a breach occurs, this account will be closed immediately and permanently. No exceptions.
As the world evolves, the fics we write may change as well. The author has decided on this ruleset regarding real life influencing RPF:
- If the band disbands/member that you're writing about is officially involved romantically, gets married, passes away, leaves the band: Finish writing any current stories that feature the member. Do not start any new ones.
- If the member in question does something that you feel is worthy of cancel culture: If they are the sole focus of the story, abandon it. If they are in a multi-person story, work toward writing them out.
- If the member or band in person specifically states in company material that they do NOT want RPF written about them or they do not want mature content written about them: upon receiving official company material stating as such, immediately pull all offending material, and find something new to write about
PLEASE NOTE: As the author is gynesexual and is only extremely rarely sexually attracted to men, it is impossible for the author to sexualize underage male celebrities. Any claims otherwise are invalid.
OTHER STANDARDS
As the author is white, the author has made a commitment to focus on writing white main characters. This is necessary to avoid cultural and racial appropriation and to "stay in their lane." There are some instances where the author feels relatively comfortable writing people of color, in very specific circumstances. In these moments, as these are not published trade books for sale, the author feels comfortable presenting the various racial circumstances that they can, to bring greater visibility and to celebrate our diverse world. When this occurs, the stories will be written in third person. Writing about a person of color in first person is not sufficient for a white writer.
Second person stories such as the Magnificat Miracles are presented with no race indicators, and as few gender indicators as humanly possible. The idea is that the reader is able to physically insert themselves into the story, as is. Obviously this is not fully possible culturally, and as these stories are written by a white author, your mileage may vary. Any issues or thoughts about possibly offending material can be forwarded directly to the author. When writing your complaint, please focus on constructive criticism. Angry messages, particularly those in all caps, are directly harmful to the author's (relatively fragile) mental health. (The point is for me to listen, not to have me in a panic attack.)
The author makes a commitment to write people of color into their minor and background characters, as this is a multicultural world we live in. The author also makes a regular, but relatively unseen publicly, effort to read fanfictions from authors around the world. Support fiction written by people of color.
The author feels comfortable writing fiction that features these races as main characters:
white
Armenian, particularly Armenian-American
Japanese, particularly Japanese-American
Hispanic-American, particularly Puerto Rican, in certain contexts ONLY
Korean, extending to K-Pop celebrities ONLY
ANY race in the context of the Pokemon World ONLY
The author feels comfortable writing fiction that takes place in these locations:
anywhere in the United States of America
Canada
Japan, particularly Tokyo
any number of fictional lands, such as the Pokemon World
This is good to keep in mind if you choose in the future to commission a work.
As the author is queer, you can expect many, many works of queer fiction on this account. End of story. Support queer fiction.
The legal age of consent in America is 18. (The legal age in Canada, Wattpad's operating location, is 16, but as the author is American, the American age of consent is used.) No characters, real or fictional, under the age of consent will be depicted in any story on this account engaging in explicit adult activity. For K-Pop celebrities, this age extends to 21 in America to clear up any confusion with the age of consent/age rules in Korea. Underage characters might be implied to be engaging in such activity under consensual circumstances only with a closed door policy. (Teens have sex, we get it, it's normal, but NOBODY NEEDS TO SEE THAT.)
This chapter may be edited with more information as time passes. Thank you for reading. (Sorry that was long. You really didn't need to read all of that! But it's good for me to have a reference page I can send people to if they have questions.)
