Episode 001: On The Basics

who is asterhythm?

My basic story that brought me (back) to Wattpad is this: I've been a writer for the vast majority of my life. I've gone from writing fanfic to self publishing all the way to trade shows and back. Along the way, I had life events break me down, interrupting my career and my schooling. I felt horrible for a really long time, and I had no direction in life.

Then, I fell in love with someone, and I was inspired by his music to start creating again. The words were flying from my fingers, and I had to put them somewhere. And because the person I fell in love with is in BTS, it made sense to start posting on Wattpad again. So, here I am!

A major problem I have is that my "real" name is really easy to find. If you Google my real name, you'll find my books everywhere. You'll also see a hot mess who fell apart in the face of stress, anxiety, and abuse. It was my intent to start a bit fresh on Wattpad, and that's why I'm using the name Asterhythm (or Aster Rhythm, if we're going with first and last names). I want to hide in the shade of my relative anonymity, at least as long as I can. So please: don't guess who I am. I'm not super famous, not really at all, but I have had my fifteen seconds of fame for sure. I want to step aside from everybody else's expectations and write what I want to write, for Suga's sake, because he saved my life, and also for my sake, because my writing is worth it.

what is an asterhythm?

An asterism is a collection of stars, kind of like a constellation but not officially given a name or a story. An asterhythm is, I suppose, a collection of stars with a musical magic to them. It's probably what Toyama Kasumi from Bang Dream saw the night she heard the stars' heartbeat. It's been used in a couple of places before, but I actually got the name from the Pretty Rhythm manga. The main character's name is Rizumu, which can also be romanized as Rhythm. She forms a group of friends to go skating with, and they call themselves "Asterhythm."

what are your pronouns?

As stated in my bio, I am non-binary! So they/them pronouns would be great. If you misgender me on either side of the spectrum, using either she/her or he/him, I probably won't fight you on it that much. But if you remember to use they/them, I might just love you forever.

how old are you?

This is one of those things that pinpoints my identity, and it also brings me a LOT of shame. So I'm not giving an exact number. There are two things I will give:

1: I am very obviously older than 18.

2: I very vividly remember 9/11.

That said, if you are younger than 18 and wish to converse with me, I'm fine with it as long as it is about writing or something story based. I've talked with underage fans in the past and then have had their parents call me up wanting to sue me because I spoke with their child. So it makes me a little nervous! If you ask about writing or want to praise my story, or want for me to read your story, I don't think that's too intrusive on a site that is literally about writing. Otherwise, I ask that you respect this, please. You are free to message me about just about anything once you turn 18.

where are you located?

It's no secret that I'm white and American. I strive to be as cultured as I can while simultaneously living in a place that is known for its short-mindedness. I think some of that comes from me having a queer background, and being ostracized by my parents from a young age for being so. That's why I want to write stories from as many diverse backgrounds as I am able to. On the flip side, I understand that there is only so much I can write myself. So I strive to write the stories that are true to me, while simultaneously finding ways to promote the stories I can't.
