Jewel was (and still is) really shy and she was bullied because of that and her shiny coat to the point where she didn't want to go home in fear of her parents seeing the bruises and freaking out

The twins only listen to Xander because he secretly buys them treats if they're good. Jamal isn't aware of this and is impressed by how well Xander can get them to listen

Before Jamal and Florian knew each other they went to the same school and Florian would wonder why Jamal wouldn't invite anyone over to his house
