Manipulation Is The Key

ISSA WATCHED AS JACK sat with his friends, his cheeks pulled into a smile as those around him about something that she had no concern for once so ever. His arm was draped over a petite blonde who was talking to Issa guessed was Jack's cousin, Abigail, showing off different drawings in her sketchbook.

"Why are you staring?" Issa turned to Oliver who was flipping through a psychology textbook that he had picked up from one of the shelves. His brown eyes glanced at her, occasionally drifting back to the group just a few tables from them. A frown pulled on his lips. "You're planning something."

"Why would you say that?"

He drew a circle in the air around his face. "You have this look on your face-your eyebrows narrow whenever you think about something. And I want in."

"I always can count of you." Issa smiled, flicking a stray curl from Oliver's eye before turning back to the group of royals, her gaze on Jack particularly. "We need to handle Snowflake."

"You mean Jack? Why?"

"Because he's a loose end. And I hate loose ends." Issa stated, pushing herself off the table and on to the bench beside Oliver, her back pressing against the edge of the desk. "He's on to us. I can feel it. If he figures out what are plan is, than we can forget Auradon, forget the wand, forget everything because the next place we'll be is shipped back to the Isle with no way out ever again."

Oliver's grip around the psychology textbook tightened at the thought of their plan being discovered, but more so the repercussions that would follow. If they returned back to the Isle without the wand, the punishment that he would face from his mother would be only something that not even his own imagination could conjure up. He could not loose this opportunity. "What do you want to do about him?" He asked.

Issa sighed, leaning forward to rest her arms on the top of her knees and bit her lip as she tried to figure out the best route to go on. "Frosty the Snowman is having a little bit of an issue controlling his icy powers. They're emotion based, like mine, and I've seen whenever he gets irritated they flare up."

"I heard some students whispering about how he's Benny Boo second-in-command. He does the work that Ben doesn't." Oliver looked at Issa from the corner of his eye. "You want to make his job even more stressful?"

Issa shook her head. "To easy, and would drawn to much of our attention on figuring out how to distract him all the time. No, we need to get under his skin and I know just the way to do it." She smirked at Oliver. "I'll teach him how to control his powers."

"Issa," Oliver started. He wasn't a fan of Snow King and with every reason, the boy could barely look at them for a second without wearing a look that clearly read superiority. Oliver found it hilarious how he was practically seething upon their arrival. "As much as I trust your abilities...are you sure that you can manage teaching someone to control their power along with yours?"

Issa frowned. Oliver had a point. Auradon was a new change for the teen in more ways than just scenery as there was no barrier to hinder her magic from flowing. While nothing had happened yet there was still a possibility that something or someone could set Issa off. And that wouldn't be good for anyone.

"I...I can do this, Oliver." Issa nodded in reassurance. "And we don't have that much time really before the coronation or to get the wand, so I don't have many options to get Jack off our backs. I can't have us fail knowing that there was something I could have done to prevent it. To prevent us from going back to Isle empty handed."

Oliver grabbed her hand and squeezed it comfortingly. "You won't. I believe in you. So you'll get Jack to trust you, and let his guard down. Giving us more room to focus on the wand without interference."

"Once I-" Issa drew her sentence to a halt when she spotted Ben on his way towards them, a big grin on his face that seemed to be just an all around permanent feature on his face. "Ben, lovely to see you here."

"Issa, Oliver, I was just seeing how you guys were faring off here?" Ben looked down to read the title of the book in Oliver's hands, wearing a look of excitement. "Have you guys signed up to join extracurricular classes?"

Oliver rolled his eyes and closed the book. "No, I just grabbed it off the shelves. Mostly because you guys have actually books that are in proper shape." He traced the outline of the book from the spine, to the pages.

"You guys didn't have books on the Isle?"

"Well we had some, but they were mostly no use considering they were just scraps of paper, that used to be a book, shredded and scribbled all over with pages missing. And a big portion of those on the Isle can't read very well anyways, along with the fact that the education system sucked and most of the time students were running around rampant."

A look of horror and sadness fell on Ben's face. He couldn't believe what he was even hearing. "I'm...I'm sorry. I-I had no idea that it was that bad."

Oliver shrugged. "Most people don't. The Isle is more like a dump once you Auradon people toss something out. We get the scraps. Either it's textbooks, clothing, or food."

Ben's eyes widened. "Food?"

"Yeah. Food back then was mostly spoiled or halfway near. Some got to get first pick, but it didn't make much of a difference." Oliver explained. While it was bad, it was bearable the months Issa came back from her trip to the Underworld as she would bring fruits and vegetables that last everyone for about two months. Thankfully they were originally brought by Persephone in her garden before she returned to the Underworld, so no one had to worry about permanently living there. Any place was better than the Isle.

Issa hummed in response. "But don't sweat it. Not too many people were concerned about the treatment and living arrangements of the palce where they were planning on sending their least favorite people."

Before Ben could say anything else, the bell rang and signalled for students to move to their next class. Issa and Oliver stood up and gathered their things. "See ya, Beasty." Issa waved off before following Oliver, and lowering her voice to a whisper. "So, the plan a go?"

"It so is." The two gave a fist bump in approval before splitting off.
