Watch them burn
No one's pov
As laketown burned both thorin and Ash's conditions worsened. Ash became paler and was constantly throwing up the acidic black liquid but it seemed to be diluting. Thorin wandered in and out of the golden halls, spending more time in there each time he returned.
Bilbo sat with his head in his hands, trying not to think about how many were dying because of the mistake he'd made.. bard and his poor children plagued his mind the most. Images of ash when he first met her flashed in and out of his mind. The more he thought about it the more he realised she has gotten a lot skinnier since they had been in mirkwood.. and that was only a few days ago..
He sighed as he heard balin saying she kept taking to herself in elvish. We all watched Smaug sour over the town with malicious intent as the sun rose. Thorin won't even look.. he's just staring at the lake of gold in the halls of erabor.
Suddenly the sound of Smaug hitting the ground echoes throughout the land, all the way to the mountain. They jump up in surprise. "What was that? What happened?" Oin asked. Bilbo shot up and cranes his neck in an attempt to see as he said "It fell. I saw it.". They all peer out at the town in the early morning light."It's dead. Smaug is dead!" Bilbo yells happily. Thorin, still staring at the Lonely Mountain and not at the town, has a strange expression of happiness cross his face. "By my beard! I think he's right! Look there! The ravens of Erebor are returning to the mountain!" Gloin told his companions, pointing at several birds that were cawing and approaching the Lonely Mountain.
"Aye - Word will spread. Before long every soul in Middle-earth will know - The dragon is dead!" Oin said with a smile. As the dwarves laugh in glee, Thorin hurries down from the lookout point and approaches the gates of Erebor. Ash had woken from the thud and was using her sword as a crutch. She dragged herself outside, only to have thorin run past her. When she saw the burning town she went pale, and then she saw the tail of a dragon, unmoving, lying in the lake, all the colour returned to her face and her strength in returned to her. She smiled happily, leaving her sword behind and running to her companions to celebrate.
She quickly ran to thorin. "Thorin he's dead! Isn't this what you wanted ? We should go help, see how many survivors there are" She told her friend. He didn't look at her as he replied "no, my dear elf. You shall not raise a finger to help them. We will wait till sunrise, maybe go down and claim his skull and use it as a new thrown since he destroyed mine..". He put a heavy amount of venom on the word mine making ash flinch slightly. "I suggest you get yourself cleaned up. Maybe get balin to sow that wound shut. You'll need it, tomorrow we're defending our kingdom for war." He finished before walking away and leaving her alone in the glistening golden speckled and floored room.
