06 | What am I?

Chapter six

Things were bad.

Very bad.

If Jungkook had expected to get through training based on his brain, he didn't anymore.

Thanks to Taehyung, Jungkook found out that he was lacking at many other things, not only physical endurance. He was bad at archery, and apparently using a sword. The omega told him that he wasn't holding the katana right and using one hand was making his posture more unstable. He corrected him for every single thing he did. And when they got in a combat, Jungkook was the first to lose his sword and fall defenselessly on the ground.

No matter how skilled the omega was, though, he couldn't overpower an alpha. The fact of it was, he was simply too weak for a combat and physical fighting. He may had been able to make Jungkook submit without too much of a struggle, but that was the only thing he had succeeded at thus far. Yes, his fighting skills were indeed miraculous and unrecognizable to Jungkook's knowledge, but his physical structure was a big minus. He was small, fragile and could get easily bruised, just like any other omega. His temper, though, could be compared to an alpha's spirit. Taehyung didn't give up without a fight, even if his opponent was ten times stronger than him, he would fight till his last breath. Jungkook admired him for his strong will. Perhaps his savage temperament was the reason why he could make an alpha submit to him.

"Again!" Taehyung yelled loudly when Jungkook yet again missed the target. He looked exasperated, pinching the bridge of his nose with his fingers as he watched the alpha contemplate.

The omega had set up multiple targets by the tree line of the forest that served as birders between the open field of the forest and his cottage.

Jungkook's muscles began to ache as he had to shoot arrow after arrow.

The alpha felt him nagging eyes bore into him as he tried to move around and do his job. Unsure of whether he had started imagining things or not, he paid a hopefully cautious glance in the direction of the omega, skidding his eyes over his face first, over his long, carefully built body, his casual stance and magnificent stare.

Jungkook groaned in annoyance and threw the bow on the ground.

"I'm done for today!" he huffed out, turning around to glare at Taehyung. He fervently believed he was doing the right thing, and yet his shots always missed the target.

Taehyung, as if he was expecting this to happen, rolled his eyes at Jungkook and snatched the bow from the grass. With the proper stance and undivided attention, he was ready to breathe out and release the arrow he was currently holding. The sharp point of the wooden stick perfectly landed on the middle of the target in a blink of an eye.

With no rest, a hand grabbed another arrow, then quickly aimed at the same target where a few arrows were already stacked.

When he was finally done emptying the quiver, he lowered his hands and let his arms rest, panting slightly. Taehyung charged his gaze across the targets, then swirling on his tiptoes to lock eyes with Jungkook.

"If you wanted to prove me how bad I am at archery, congratulations! You did it successfully." The alpha said through gritted teeth, digging his nails into the rough skin of his palm.

Taehyung rolled his eyes and walked over him, handing him the bow.

"Give yourself more credit and maybe things will work out" he tried to encourage him.

Jungkook heaved a sigh and took the weapon in his hands, grabbing another arrow from his own quiver. He parted his legs a bit to gain more balance, narrowed his eyes at the target and shot again. To his unfortune, the arrow thudded pathetically into the ground in front of the tree.

"See? It doesn't work." The alpha didn't want to sound like a cry baby, but in emergencies like this, where his ego had fallen to the depths of his despair, he felt like a piece of trash.

Taehyung let his tongue roam over his bottom lip as he scanned the alpha from head to toes, wearing a thoughtful look on his pretty face.

"Here, let me help you." He said and took a step closer, placing one hand on Jungkook's stomach and the other on his lower back. "Straighten up your posture." Taehyung instructed.

The alpha did as he was told, taking the same stance he had been staying in for the last few hours.

"Now take a deep breath and try to focus only on the red dot." The omega's smooth voice rang in his ears, causing chills to run the entire length of Jungkook's spine.

And so, he did. It was awkward (for Jungkook, that was), the way Taehyung stood behind him, chest pressed right against his back and a hand at his waist, steadying.

"Concentrate, okay?" The omega murmured, voice low and right by his ear. "I want you to let go the arrow slowly. I know it's easy to be impatient, but the slower, the better, since it's easier to sense how quick the shot will be. And don't worry about missing the target."

It was ridiculous, how Jungkook's heart was beating rapidly with every warm breath brushing over the shell of his ear, and yet he felt so at ease.

He steadied his breathing and focused on the exhale as he pulled back the bowstring, sighting eye trained intensely on the small red painted dot on his target. When his lungs emptied out. he let go, hearing the arrow whistle through the air until it stuck solidly in the center, a perfect bullseye. Jungkook grinned ecstatically and looked down to see Taehyung's reaction, noticing the proud look in his eyes.

"Not bad." The alpha commented, admiring the shot they made.

"Next time I won't be there to guide you, though." the omega shyly stated out, unknowingly getting Jungkook's heart beating a bit more.

From that close, he could see some specific features on Taehyung's face. The cute mole resting on the tip of his nose, his long eyelashes and flawless skin. Taehyung was truly the epitome of perfection. He was extraordinary, undeniably beautiful and brave. Yeah, sometimes a pain in the ass, too.

The omega was quick to notice the way Jungkook stared at him so dreamily and pulled his hands away. Taking a small step back, he purposefully put some space between them.

"Do you want to try it by yourself this time?" he asked after coughing a bit to clear his throat, perking his head up to see his reaction.

The alpha eyed the bow in his hands, poking the inside of his cheek with his togue, his dark eyebrows were furrowed together.

"Can't we try something else instead?" Jungkook gathered up the courage to ask. He was done with the archery for today. He didn't want to say it out loud, but he secretly wished for them to move to the main part of his training.

Taehyung hummed in agreement and walked over the targets that were hanged on the trees to gather up all the wasted arrows. "Sure. What do you want to do?" he glanced up at him, putting the arrows back in his quiver.

The raven-haired male licked his dry lips to wet them a bit, not sure from where he should start.

"How to kill a true blood?" Taehyung went still, the rest of Jungkook's words going through one ear and out the other.

The alpha swallowed thickly, his heart sunk in his chest, a strange sense of dejection making his body feel heavy.

"It's too early for that." The omega retorted, body stiffening and jaw clenching.

Jungkook immediately huffed out an annoyed sigh. Anger rolled off him, and Taehyung thought he knew the answer before it had come. The alpha turned his body as if he may leave before responding, but he stopped himself and slowly, slowly moved back to look at the startled omega.

"Why? Because you think I'm not ready?" It came out like rather rudely from his mouth, the words spat out, but he didn't use the tone that forced Taehyung to listen. His words lingered in the air until he realized the omega's sparkly blue eyes were on him expectantly. "Or because you don't know how to do your job." The sentence didn't come out like a question, but like an accusation.

If Jungkook thought he could give him this spoiled attitude and act like one of those alphas in his pack, he was deadly mistaken, because Taehyung wasn't just an ordinary omega who would tolerate such a behavior.

"You can't control your emotions! First clear your mind and tame your stupid alpha wolf!" the omega's words came out like a loud growl. His aura was radiating dominance and the blue color of his eyes that was usually a sign of submission now screamed power.

But Jungkook wasn't going to go on the defense and stop here. He was tired of listening to Taehyung's orders, tired of being treated as a little pup who didn't know how to fight and contain his feelings. For God's sake, he was an alpha, the strongest and most dominant rank of their kind. His pack members would laugh at him if they were to see the pitiful situation he was put in. The next head alpha of the pack let himself be taught by an omega; it was just hilarious to think about it!

"You're talking about emotions and self-control, but still make me do things like archery and fucking running! I'm the next head alpha of my pack! When I turn into a wolf, nothing of this will matter!" Jungkook growled in his direction, making a step closer, invading the omega's personal space. His irises were glimmering in a gold yellow color, so beautiful yet so dangerously scary. He was heartily sick of Taehyung's musts.

The omega, no matter how short and tiny he looked in front of the alpha's strong posture, didn't let himself shudder.

"I don't need your pity, Taehyung." The alpha's rage was reeking out of him. The hues of his eyes were soaked in this rich shade of gold, creating a beautiful jumble of fuming flames. It was fascinating, indeed. The way his irises would change color in a flick of a second.

"Ah yes, because offering my assistance immediately means you're a sorry case of a human being," Taehyung dared to speak back, still having the guts to challenge the alpha, no matter how angered he seemed to be. His words, however, caught Jungkook off guard. "Weakness is a social construct created by alphas to determine who stands on top of society. Weakness is a determinant of your worth. Should you be respected or should you be looked down upon. Weakness..."

In the next blink, the omega had kicked off from his spot and swung his bow to the other alpha. Luckily Jungkook had the sense to lift his own weapon up in defense keeping the impact from meeting his directly. As wood met wood, thick and well smoothed, Jungkook stepped a few paces back. Fiery eyes gazed into each other, challenging, daring.

"Weakness is something you create for yourself. You, Jungkook, are strong, but you hold onto your alpha pride so dearly and that makes you weak!" Taehyung snarled, drawing his weapon back only to swing it again. They went back and forth like that, defense and attack. He aimed for Jungkook's chest, seeming adamant on hitting that spot without minding the rest of his body. Jungkook, on the other hand, defended with all his strength, unable to counter the fast swings the omega brought.

Finally, the alpha found an opening and sidestepped, dodging Taehyung's weapon by an inch, before he swung his own weapon up and hitting the omega's underarm. He sprung forward again and hit the back of Taehyung's knees with the bow, drawing him down the grass.

"I am not weak," Jungkook heaved, pressing the stick heavily on the omega's shoulder to keep him down.

But Taehyung wasn't finished. Much so when he suddenly grabbed Jungkook's weapon and forcefully pulled it, causing the latter to fall forward as well. Taehyung, quick on his steps, got up and pinned Jungkook down, chest to the grass and his head was pulled back by the chin.

"Then act like it," Taehyung yelled at him, his mouth was slightly open as he breathed in and out, chest rising and falling with identical movements. "You think you're strong, your people think you're strong, it is expected of you, but are you truly?"

His neck strained with how hard Taehyung pulled. Growling even hurt for him. He did his best to intertwine their legs, but the omega's weight on the back of his thighs made it difficult.

"Tell me, Jungkook, the next head alpha of the pack. Are you weak or are you strong? Because in the end, nobody can determine that other than you."

Jungkook successfully slid his right arm from under his torso and tried to do the same with the other while attempting to slide Taehyung's grip off his chin.

There were some green stains on the left side of his face from having his cheek pressed against the dirty ground. All he wanted was to stand up and fight for himself, but his disposition prevented him from doing so. This was the most pitiful state an alpha could be in, almost as pitiful as an omega.

"What are you, Jeon Jungkook?" Taehyung's question somehow reached the deepest parts of his heart, stabbing it in all right places like a perfectly aimed arrow.

Fury boiled in his chest.

Jungkook's yell echoed past the trees as he forcefully pushed himself up from the ground, and in result pushing Taehyung off him. The omega's balance didn't falter though, as it only took a few steps back to fall steady on his feet.

Jungkook turned to Taehyung with a flame in his eyes. To another wolf, it would had been scary but to Taehyung who was familiar with such a state it was only the beginning of what Jungkook could do.

Different they may had been bred but no different when it came to anger.

Anger didn't solve anything. It built nothing, but it could destroy everything.

And while it stemmed from two very different situations, it was all the same emotion.

"Emotion shouldn't drive your actions," Taehyung said, heaving a little from the force of Jungkook's push. "It's you who should use them, manipulate them for better results."

Jungkook watched with sharp eyes as the omega walked calmly to pick up the fallen weapons laying side by side. He tossed one to Jungkook and as the alpha caught it, his eyes ignited their flame as well.

"Shall we officially begin?"
