Ashaangi SS Entwined

Chapter Eleven

With vermillion in her hair partition and mangalyam pendant in yellow thread hanging around her neck along with her mother's jewels, the new bride Sivaangi smiled widely as she sat along with Bala, Raju and Mano, conversing with them.

Sivaangi's cheek ached from smiling all morning but she didn't let the bright wide smile on her face waiver. She laughed to something Bala said and her eyes instinctively darted towards opposite direction where Ashwin's standing with Baba Baskar and Parthiv. Her eyes took in Ashwin and then her gaze fell on her mangalsutra on her neck making her get lost into her wedding thoughts while her smile stayed intact.

Ashwin and Sivaangi were married, couple of hours ago. When they woke up in the morning, Master's men already arranged everything for marriage in the opposite apartment. Sivaangi's hands were filled with henna thanks to Mano who learned it from his sister and volunteered to do it. She was touched by his gesture. After couple of hours, Bala instructed Ashwin and Sivaangi to get ready for the muhurtham.

They got ready in separate rooms. Ashwin handed Sivaangi her mother's jewels which Bala gave him last night once he was ready. Ashwin was dressed in a pattu vesti and shirt while Sivaangi was dressed in the wedding saree which he bought for her.

"You won't regret doing this ever, right?" Sivaangi asked Ashwin before they were to leave his apartment, her voice low as she said, "Even if that thought ever comes, please don't regret our marriage"

Ashwin took a brief moment to look at Sivaangi before he heaved a sigh and held her hand gently, "I don't know what made you think that. I'm not a man who's best with words but I'm a man of action. I won't promise that I won't but let my actions convince you that I won't. Just trust me, Sivaangi"

"I do, Ashwin. With my life" Sivaangi said as she tightened her grip on Ashwin's, "I'll always do"

"Then let's get married" Locking his eyes with hers, Ashwin took Sivaangi out.

Soon they were ushered into Master's apartment where Master was barking orders to his men. When his eyes fell on the couple, his face softened and he welcomed them. There was an elder woman sitting on the couch and Baskar led them to her.

Shakeela was a headstrong business woman whom Baba Baskar met three decades before. Growing up, he found a sister in her and she, a brother. As Baba Baskar never got married nor has any living family, he didn't have any female to bring for the wedding and so, he requested Shakeela who agreed.

When Baba Baskar introduced the couples to Shakeela, it was instant attachment for Shakeela and Ashwin. She didn't get married but always wanted a well-behaved son like Ashwin and Sivaangi was so cute that she instantly adored her.

Shakeela instructed everyone to finish rest of work for the wedding. She applied a dash of holy ash on both Ashwin and Sivaangi's forehead. An Iyer raised sacred fire and was chanting mantras. Ashwin was asked to sit in front of the holy fire. Two girls walked inside the apartment grabbing everyone's attention. Shakeela introduced them as Mila and Tasha, her adoptive daughters.

The girls introduced themselves to Sivaangi and they instantly gelled well. Sivaangi, who was feeling very nervous, hell excited and a bit of sad because of her parents' absence felt good with the girl's presence. She really wanted Rakshan and Pugazh to be there but thanks to Viraj, they couldn't come back from Coimbatore for at least two more days.

Sivaangi beamed at everyone and relaxed in Ashwin's presence as she sat next to him in front of holy fire. Her heart was overwhelmed with everything that's happening. Her seven years wait would end in less than seven minutes.

Ashwin's case was a whole different story. He didn't inform his mother about the wedding. He still has concerns about Sivaangi's safety but didn't question his decision of getting married to her. Responsibility of a husband did make him nervous and with so many new faces around, he was slightly tensed but felt better when Sivaangi sat next to him.

Sivaangi and Ashwin followed Iyer's instructions. They did smile at each other but remained focused on listening to Iyer. When Kanyadhaan ritual came (where father gives his daughter's hand to groom), Sivaangi teared up thinking about her dead father. Ashwin comfortingly placed his hand on her lap. Baba Baskar without any thought held her hand, took Ashwin's hand and placed her hand into Ashwin's making her cry and hug him. He patted her fondly and the ritual continued.

When Ashwin tied mangalyam around Sivaangi's neck, it was a moment of rebirth for both of them. They were entrusted with responsibility of each other for life, to be together in good and bad, in sickness and in health, in life and death. It scared them both but also gave a new thrill and hope to live for. It was dream come true for Sivaangi and it was a beginning of new dream for Ashwin.

Sivaangi laughed through tears when vermillion spilled on her nose when Ashwin filled her partition. Shakeela remarked a superstition behind that and teased the couple that groom loves bride a lot.

The seven pheras started. Ashwin took four rounds leading Sivaangi and then she led him for three sealing their marriage, each making a promise of their own in their mind. A toe ring was passed and Ashwin made Sivaangi wear that.

Baba Baskar passed the wedding papers. Ashwin had revealed his name to Baba Baskar so that legal papers can be made. He and Sivaangi signed it with Baba Baskar, Shakeela, Parthiv and Sandy as witnesses. After their marriage, they clicked few pictures and had lunch.

The boys had fun teasing Ashwin and Sivaangi. She whole heartedly accepted the teasing but he felt shy and managed to smile. He still hasn't warmed up completely to Master's men and missed his friends. Shakeela sided with him and urged him to talk. Misha and Tasha bonded well with everyone.

Ashwin led Shakeela, Mila and Tasha inside his apartment and showed them Rakshan's room for Shakeela's use and Mila and Tasha took another room which belongs to Sanjay so that they can rest while Sivaangi stayed conversing with Baba Baskar expressing her gratitude for him to do her kanyadhaan.

"Nee enn ponnu dhan. Unaku naan dhana seiyanum. Romba feel lam panadha" Baba Baskar said pulling Sivaangi into a fatherly hug and she reciprocated it and teared up.

(You are my daughter. I will do my responsibilities as a father. Don't feel too much)

Later Shakeela took arthi and let the newly wed inside Ashwin's apartment. The girls helped Sivaangi change into a comfortable saree and less jewels. It was around 4 pm so Shakeela went to relax while Mila and Tasha left outside for work. Ashwin was with Baba Baskar and Parthiv while Sivaangi with Bala, Raju and Mano at Baba Baskar's apartment.

Sivaangi moved out of her trance when Bala clicked his fingers in front of her.

"Aii papa, yenna ipovey kanavu ulagathukula poetiya?" Baba teased eyeing toward Ashwin's direction.

(Are you day dreaming?)

"Shoo, athellam ila neyy" Sivaangi waved off at Bala and turned her attention to Mano, "Anney neenga solunga. Aprm andha thimiru pidicha sotta thalayana adichutu yepdi thapichinga?"

(Nothing like that bro) (Bro, what happened next? How did you escaped after hitting that arrogant bald guy?)

Mano was narrating about one of his adventures where he was hired to beat an arrogant middle age business man who was making issues for marginalized people from cheri side.

"Athellam nangunu naalu adi adichathukey flat agitan. Pinna yenna, orey ootam dhan. Bus ah pidichu safe house la settled" Mano narrated everything dramatically making Sivaangi laugh.

(I managed to knock him unconscious with four hits. Then I took off. Boarded a bus and came straight to safe house)

"Sivaangi" Sandy came there.

"Solunga na" Sivaangi looked up at Sandy.

(Yes, brother?)

"Master unna kupduraru" Sandy said and walked away.

(Master's calling you)

Sivaangi excused herself from her brothers and walked up to Baba Baskar and Ashwin.

"Solunga Pa" Sivaangi said purposefully brushing her shoulder against Ashwin as she stood by him.

(You called, father?)

Sivaangi controlled her urge to roll her eyes at Ashwin when he moved away slightly while his eyes were fixed at Master. He didn't want to look into his newly wedded wife's face because he's still processing that he's married and he has to calm his racing heart. The sight of his gorgeous wife who wears mangalsutra and sindoor on his name would overwhelm him for sure.

'Romba panra Ashwineyy, iru unna inaiku night vachukuren' Sivaangi thought mentally rolling her eyes at Ashwin before looking at Master who got a box from Sandy.

(What an attitude! I'll deal with you tonight)

"Ma, indha idhu unaku" Baba Baskar said forwarding a jewel box.

(This is for you)

"Yethuku master ithellam?" Ashwin said placing his hand on top of the jewel box to push it back to Baba Baskar whose smile dimmer a little which Sivaangi was quick to notice.

(What's the need for this, master?)

"Yenna yethuku? Pa, enaku dhana vangitu vandhrukinga, enta kudunga" Sivaangi said getting the jewel box from Baba Baskar making him smile widely at her.

(What do you mean? Father, you bought these for me right, give me)

"Indha da" Baba Baskar gave it to Sivaangi and shifted his gaze to Ashwin, "Enn ponnuku naan kudukuren, nee yethuku edaila vara?"

(Here) (I'm giving this to my daughter. Why are you coming in between us?)

"Apdi ila mas-" Ashwin started but Sivaangi cut him off in middle.

(Its not like that mas-)

"Ashwineyy, appa dhana, vidungalen" Sivaangi eyed at Ashwin to be quiet.

(He's father right, let it be)

Ashwin nodded at Sivaangi as they stared at each other. She smiled at him while he was too tongue-tied to form a word as she looked heavenly in her newly married avatar; his wife.

"Master, indhanga" Sandy handed another jewel box to Baba Baskar.

(Here)

"Haan Konda da" Baba Baskar got it from Sandy and turned to Ashwin, "Olunga naan amaithiya kudukura apovey vangiko"

(Give me) (Get it from me when I'm giving patiently)

"Yenna master, meraturinga" Ashwin blinked and shook his head, "Iva kuda serathinga, elarayum kirukakiruva"

(Why are you threatening me?) (Don't side with her, she would turn everyone crazy)

Baba Baskar laughed while Sivaangi frowned.

"Athaan nee kiruka suthuriya?" Sandy asked in a flow with a mocking smile.

(Is that why you are crazy?)

Sandy thought Ashwin would glare at him or something but Ashwin surprised him by saying,

"Pinna, unn thangachi panra alichatiyathuku kiruku agama irundha dhan doubt uh"

(How else would I be if I'm associated with your sister?)

"Ashwineyy!" Sivaangi whined and turned to Baba Baskar, "Pa! Rendu per um yenna solranga nu parunga!"

(See how they two are making fun of me!)

"Dei, onga rendu per kum vera velai ilaya? Angutu ponga da" Baba Baskar told Sandy and Ashwin. He then turned to Sivaangi, "Ma, nee enn kuda va, unaku indha necklace epdi iruku nu potu papom"

(Don't do two have better works to do? Get lost) (You come with me. Let's try the necklace I got for you)

Sivaangi smiled widely at Baba Baskar and before walking behind him, she turned to wave at Ashwin but Sandy grabbed her hand and gently pushed her towards Baba Baskar's direction.

"Aii, po" Sandy ushered Sivaangi away.

(Go)

"Huh" Sivaangi twisted her lips at Sandy and turned towards Ashwin, "Ashwineyy, poetu varen"

(I'll be back soon)

Ashwin smiled at Sivaangi and waved back making her smile widely.

Sandy rolled his eyes at their gesture and then at Ashwin.

'Ivanunga alichatiyam thanga mudiyala da' Sandy thought, shook his head and walked away, grumbling under his breath, "Single's life matter"

(They are too much)
