Advance Battle: Episode 1 to Episode 39
(Season 8: Episode 1 - Episode 6) Zaylee's POV
I'm about to try for my first contest ribbon. In Viridian city, I am super nervous. "Meow" Angel says placing her paw on my lap.
"You're right, I shouldn't worry. We've trained hard for this" I state as I pay her head.
"First contest?" a woman asks.
"Yeah, I'm a little nervous about the crowd" I tell her.
"Ignore them, just pretend it's you and your pokemon training or having fun" she tells me.
"Thanks, I'll remember that" I tell her. "I'm Zaylee" I add.
"Solidad" she says and we shake hands.
"Are you competing?" I ask her.
"Not today, today I am just assessing the competition for the year" she states. "Besides my pokemon and I only just got back from our last journey. They deserve a little break" she tells me. "Are you entering your persian?" she asks.
"Angel, and yes. Along with Silver" I tell her.
"Who's Silver? Actually don't tell me, I want to be surprised" she tells me. "By the way, you have registered right?" she asks.
"Oh no, I forgot!" I exclaim. She calms me down and takes me to register. Then wishes me luck for tomorrow. Angel and I managed to make it through the appeal round. But now came the hard part, the contest battles. Everyone was awed by Silver, as most had never seen a shint pokemon before. Let a lone a shiny ninetales. It throw my first opponent of balance and they were out of sync with their pikachu. So we won our first match with a K.O.
We made it all the way to the final round. It was neck and neck. Between me and Tristan. Yes, you heard right Tristan. He'd obivously been training hard since the last grand festival. His venomoth was hard to beat. In the end I only had a fraction more points then him. Which won me the contest. I was over the moon. Not many coordinators could say they won their first contest. But I promised not to let it go to my head.
But it did and in my second contest I lost against Solidad. But I needed to lose. It allowed to get my head back on straight and remember what's most important. Having fun with my pokemon. So we took a little break before our next contest.
Mum was so proud when she heard I'd won my first ribbon. And told me not to feel bad about losing my second contest. She apparently hadn't heard from Ash in a while. I hope he and the other two are ok.
(Season 8: Episode 7 - Episode 12)
I entered my third contest and won thanks to Bluey & Fly. Mum had finally heard from Ash and he only needs one more badge for the Hoenn league. May had also won her fourth ribbon. She now only needs one more to compete in the Hoenn Grand Festival.
I've continued to battle hard on the way to Lavender town. The site of the next contest. I've already decided to use Otto and Belle in the contest. Speaking of Bluey, she has evolved into a dragonair and I just love flying around on her back. Gets me places a lot quicker then a bike. Which I told to another trainer. So now I fly or walk places to give Bluey a break. I also fly Otto.
When I arrived in Lavender town, I still had a couple days before the tournament. So I took the time to train with Otto and Belle. I'll be using Belle in the appeal round, which is a gamble as not everyone likes gloom. But I know the nurse Joy judging has a soft spot for grass pokemon. Besides, Otto has more experience in battles.
It's time for the appeal round. "Time to shine Belle" I say and release her. "Sweet scent" I say and a sweet aroma fills the area. "Moonlight" I say and a bright glow fills the stadium showing off Belle's petals. "Now petal dance" I instruct. She spins and petals surround her.
"Remarkable" one of the judges.
"Yes, Zaylee sure knows how to show off her gloom" Nurse Joy agrees. Belle finishes and bows. I got a good score. Now I just had to wait to see if I made it to the next round.
"You did amazing Belle, no matter what I'm proud of you" I tell her.
"Gloom gloom" she says smiling. I give her a berry as a treat. Before we get the results. We'd passed and got third place on the appeal round. I smile and return Belle to her pokeball.
"Zaylee!" a familiar voice says.
"Mum" I say surprised and hug her. "What are you doing here?" I ask her curious.
"I wanted to see one of your contests live and in person" she states. "You and Belle did so well in the first round. Good luck with your first battle. Who are you using?" she asks.
"Otto and thanks for being here mum" I say and she leaves. I was in the first match with Otto and we were facing a girl with her venomoth. It was a close match, she really knew how to show off her venomoth while delivering powerful attacks. But when I sent one of her own attacks back at her, she lost focus and her rhythm with her pokemon. Which lead to me and Otto winning.
In the final round. We didn't even time out. Otto knocked out appointment a bulbasaur out. But I wasn't to upset, we'd won our third ribbon. Mum was over joyed. I then gave mum a ride back to Pallet town on Bluey.
(Season 8: Episode 13 - Episode 18)
I spent some time in Pallet town. Taking it easy with my pokemon. I even helped out at the lab while I was home. Anyway, turns out Ash's final gym is a former top coordinator. Which would prove to be a challenge for Ash. As he doesn't have much experience with contest battles. So he wouldn't understand the gym leaders battle style at first. If he didn't adapt quickly, he may lose his first match. But only time will tell.
"What will you do next?" Tracey asks as I groom Silver.
"Go for another ribbon" I tell him. "Though I would like to learn more about pokemon breeding. So I was thinking of going to going to Scissor street to learn from Suzie and her boyfriend Zane. They are friends of Brock and Ash" I state.
"Smart, I hear they are breeders as well as groomers. You could learn a lot from them" he states. I finish grooming Silver and she goes to nap as I start on Angel. After leaving Pallet town I set out for Cerulean city for my next contest. While I did amazing in the appeal round with Bluey. And while Ariel was a strong battler, we hadn't had enough practice in water battles or making her moves look good during battle. Though lucky we didn't lose on points, she was just knocked out by the raichu we were facing.
So before I left. I decided to do some serious training with all my water pokemon. To ensure in future they'd shine in water battles. Misty was a real help and I think her gyrados has a crush on my Ariel. I think she returned the feelings. So I left her with Misty for a while and continued on my journey.
(Season 8: Episode 19 - Episode 24)
Ash managed to win his final badge. Awesome. May also got her final ribbon for the Hoenn Grand festival. Which is being held first before the Heonn League competition. Anyway, I arrived at Scissor street. Only problem is I don't know the name of Suzie's new shop that she runs with Zane.
"Oh Violet, how are we gonna find Suzie or Zane in this place?" I ask as I sit on a bench with her.
"Excuse me, did I hear you say you were looking for someone called Suzie?" a young woman asks.
"Yeah, she's a friend of my brothers and I was hoping to learn some breeder tip from her and Zane" I state.
"Well you're in luck, I'm Suzie" she say smiling. "Why don't you follow me to mine and Zane's shop?" she suggests. I agree and pick up Violet. "What a beautiful looking eevee, I can tell she i strong and so gorgeous" she praises me as we walk.
"Thanks, I've had her for a while" I tell her.
"So who was that brother you mentioned?" she ask.
"Ash" I tell her.
"Oh, that means you know Brock. He took care of my vulpix for me, for a while" she states smiling.
"My first pokemon was a vulpix" I tell her.
"Really, do you have it with you?" she asks.
"Sure" I say as we enter a shop. "Oh my gosh, your vulpix is beautiful" I state when I spot it napping.
"Yes, she was just groomed" Suzie says smiling.
"Suzie, where were you? We have customers" a young man with a ninetales state.
"Sorry Zane, I ran into a friend of a friend. This is..." she stops.
"I'm Zaylee, Ash's little sister" I tell him smiling.
"Oh, that means you know Brock and Misty" he states. "What brings you here?" he asks.
"I wanted to learn a little more about pokemon breeding from you both" I state.
"Well we'd be happy to help, but first we have customers" he tells me sheepishly.
"Make yourself at home and we will be back when we can" Suzie tells me and they left. Leaving me with ninetales and vulpix. I let Angel and Silver out. Silver was intrigued by the ninetales and vulpix. She started playing with the ninetales, while Angel looked at me with pleading eyes. I sit down taking out her brush and begin to brush her. While Violet went to sleep by vulpix.
I don't know how long they were gone. But when they got back. Violet and Suzie's vulpix had woken up. I was playing with all the pokemon with a ball. We were all rolling it to each other. "See you made yourself at home" Zane says. "I've never seen my ninetales warm up to someone so quickly" he states.
"I didn't know you vulpix had evolved" Suzie says looking at Silver in awe. I smile as Silver lays cross my lap.
"Yeah, she has. Before you ask, this is her natural colour. She is a shiny ninetales" I tell them
"Wow, she's beautiful" she states.
"I'd heard of shiny pokemon before, but never though I'd see a shiny ninetales. It's obvious you've taken very good care of her" Zane praises me.
"She was my first partner, I've had her since she was an egg" I tell him. "So I know some breeders breed and raise starter pokemon. But what else do they do?" I ask them.
"Our mine focus is to raise pokemon for health and friendship. Some like me are groomers as well as breeders. There are even breeding competitions" Suzie tells me.
"We also make our own pokemon food for each pokemon we care for. We learnt it's better to make food from scratch then buying it from the store" Zane adds.
"Oh, think you could teach me how to make pokemon food for my pokemon?" I ask them.
"Of course" they say smiling.
"You're a coordinator right?" Suzie asks. "I saw you on TV at the Cerulean contest" she states.
"Yes, I hadn't enough practice was water battles. Which was one of the reasons I lost that contest. I know I also lost because I haven't devoted enough time to the breeding side of things" I add.
"But you already have three ribbons, that's very impressive" Zane tells me. "What other pokemon do you have with you currently?" he asks. I let them out.
"Very well looked after and well groomed. They look healthy and strong" Suzie praises me. I thank her and together we get started on making pokemon food. She had me taste it along the way, so that I could see how sweet, sour or savoury it is. It was quiet an experience and I learnt each pokemon prefered different food. Like Angel preferred bitter food and Silver preferred sweet/sour food.
It was a balancing act to insure they got the flavor they liked along with all the nutrients that needed. I knew it'd take me a while to learn the perfect recipe for each pokemon. And with each new pokemon I catch I'd had to trail different combinations of food for them. But I know it'll be worth it when my pokemon are looking and feeling their best.
(Season 8: Episode 25 - Episode 30)
After I left Scissor street. I was there for two and half weeks. I set off for home as the next contest wasn't for another couple of weeks. Besides I wanted to watch May on TV at the Hoenn grand festival. I arrive in time to see the appeal rounds. May managed to et 88 points with her beautifly only using silver wind. It was risky of her to use one move, but she showed her beautifly off beautifully. I noticed her mum in the crowd with Ash, Brock and Max. I smile, I wonder if my mum will come watch me compete in the Kanto grand festival? If I get my last two ribbons.
"Of course I will go watch you compete" mum says reading my mind. "I wouldn't miss it for teh world" she tells me smiling. I smile back and we focus back on the TV. Only 64 out of the 247 coordinators passed the preliminary matches. May passed and I am so happy for her. But now comes the competition rounds and she had better stay calm & not lose focus.
(Season 8: Episode 31 to Episode 39)
May did so well for her first grand festival. She managed to do better then her rival Harley. Who was in the top 32. But she only made it to the top eight. Her friend and other rival Drew was the runner up. Robert from Johto won with his team. Also the battles were double battles. I haven't even tried doing that yet, let alone do double performances. I knew I had to learn to them both if I want to be a better coordinator.
So while I was home. Not only did I focus on learning what each of my pokemon like in their food and making them their own food. I was also practicing double performances and battles. It was hard getting two pokemon and the moves to work together. So that the both shined. Especially, when my pokemon fought each other occasionally.
Someimtes it worked better doing one move first then the other, but other times it worked better doing two moves at once. Tracey helped me with the double battles. Which actually gave me more ideas and combinations for the appeal rounds. I continued to work hard. But took time off to watch Ash compete in the Hoenn league competition.
Ash managed to make it to the top eight. And the person who beat him, ended up winning the competition. Now Ash is on his way back home. May and Max were returning to their home in Petalburg city. And Brook was returning to Pewter City. Anyway, Ash should be back soon. But knowing him. He won't be here long and will be off on another journey. I wish he'd stay in Kanto, then we could travel together. I could continue to compete for ribbons and he could train. Maybe take on the Kanto league championship again. But Ash never does the same thing twice.
