"On your left!" you heard Thor shout as you quickly dodged a spear that was about to hit you. You took out the enemy before continuing to fight.

This was how life was like for you. Fighting alongside Thor, his brother, Loki, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. You had known Thor since you were a child and grew up playing games with him.

The two of you were so close, and spent so much time together, that eventually, you ended up falling for the God of Thunder. Of course, that was a detail you would never tell him. To Thor, you were only his best friend. Loki knew your feelings for his brother, and would constantly tease you about them, but Thor was too busy flirting with every other woman to even notice.

You had grown used to it, and despite the fact that Thor would never feel the same way about you, you would still follow him wherever he went. Which is exactly how you ended up in this mess.

_______________

It all started when Asgardians battled the Frost Giants and won, obtaining the Casket of Ancient Winters, an object that the Frost Giants used to vanquish enemy armies. This was a battle that had happened in the past but apparently had lasting results.

A ceremony was taking place, specifically the ceremony in which Thor was going to be recognized as crown prince. Thor had been waiting for this for a while. But, before Odin could finish the proclamation, he sensed the presence of intruders. Three Frost Giants had infiltrated secure rooms to obtain the Casket. However, the Destroyer, an Asgardian weapon, appeared before they could take it, and killed all three of them.

Thor was angry at the assault and insisted that Asgard counterattack. Odin disagreed, so Thor gathered with his closest friends -- You, Loki, Lady Sif, Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun. You all decided to follow Thor.

However, things didn't go as well as one had hoped for, and the seven of you were now surrounded by Frost Giants. You all fought well, but things were looking desperate. Suddenly, Odin arrived. He tried to apologize to the King of the Frost Giants, and renegotiate peace. But, the King refused the offer and claimed that the Frost Giants were now at war with Asgard.

Odin quickly blasted the King back and then took all seven of you back to Asgard, back to the Palace. Odin dismissed everyone but Thor and Loki, but you refused to go, claiming that you were at fault as much as Loki and Thor.

No one expected what happened next to happen. Odin was furious, and he told Thor that he was not fit to be the King of Asgard. He then stripped Thor of his power before banishing him to Midgard. You watched in horror as the Asgardian you loved was banished. It felt as though he was taking your heart with him.

Tears brim your eyes as the portal closed. You cleared your throat and asked if you could be dismissed. Odin allowed it, and you went to your house in Asgard. You went into the room and tried to gain control of your emotions.

Thor wasn't dead, but surely Odin would forbid you from ever seeing him again, so it was as though he was. You thought about anything you could do or say to change Odin's mind, but there was nothing. You should have convinced Thor to not fight in the first place. Then he wouldn't be gone.

Some time had passed since Thor's banishment, and you stayed in your place, not wanting to see anyone else. However, that proved to be difficult when Lady Sif and the Warriors Three appeared on your doorstep.

Hesitantly, you let them in. "What are you guys doing here?" you asked them. "We have to tell you something," Sif replied. "What is it?" you asked. "We suspect that Loki had something to do with Thor's banishment," Volstagg replied. "What? What makes you think that?" you asked. "He was envious of Thor. He wanted to be King but knew that the throne fell to Thor. It makes sense, Y/N, we just thought you would want to know," Fandral explained.

You stood up, anger in your eyes, and began walking out of your house. Your four friends followed you and Hogun asked, "Where are you going?" "To confront Loki, I am going to find out whether or not he had something to do with Thor's banishment," you responded as if it was the most obvious thing to do.

"Although it is nice to see you finally out of your house, there is something you need to know before you talk to Loki," Sif told you. "What is it?" you questioned, stopping for a moment to look at her. "Odin has fallen into Odinsleep, leaving him vulnerable. As he is in his comatose state, the throne has fallen to Loki. Right now, Loki is the King of Asgard," Sif explained.

"I need to speak to Loki alone," you told her, after processing the information. They all agreed and you walked into the Palace, finding Loki there, sitting alone. "Ah, Y/N, what a wonderful surprise," Loki stated as you walked closer.

"I heard that Odin is in his comatose state. How do you like being King?" you questioned, making Loki smirk. "I love the power," he responded. You paused for a second, before asking, "Did you have something to do with Thor's banishment?" The smirk fell from Loki's face as he replied, "I see that Lady Sif and the Warriors Three have talked to you."

"That's not an answer," you replied. "You do not deserve an answer," Loki responded, and you took that as a yes. "Why did you do it? Thor is your brother," you stated. "No, actually, he is not. I am adopted," Loki responded, and you looked at him for a second, stunned by the news.

"Didn't Odin tell you?" Loki continued. "Whether Odin is your father or not, Thor is your brother. You played together, you fought together," you stated. "Well, that doesn't matter. Soon, Thor will be of no concern to anyone," Loki told you. "Do you plan on killing him?" you questioned, refusing to tear your eyes away from Loki.

"I plan on doing whatever is necessary to make me the King of Asgard, permanently," Loki responded. "Good luck with that, Your Majesty," you said, spite and sarcasm dripping from your words. You then walked out of the palace, and quickly made your way across the Rainbow Bridge, to the Bifrost.

"Heimdall, I need you to send me to Midgard," you told the man who guarded the Bifrost. "What for?" he questioned. "I have to warn Thor, Loki means to attack him," you replied. Heimdall hesitated for a second, before agreeing. He opened the portal, sending you to Midgard. You quickly made your way to a clearing where there was a trailer and a small camp set up.

It was early morning, and you skeptically looked around the place, hoping to find some sign of Thor. Suddenly, the door to the trailer opened and Thor walked out. You both stopped when you saw each other, shocked and happy at the same time.

A huge smile spread across Thor's face as he quickly walked over to you and embraced you, pulling you into a tight hug that you returned. "I have missed you, Y/N," Thor said softly in your ear as he continued to hug you. You smiled as you replied, "I missed you too Thor." Everything seemed so perfect at that moment until a woman walked out of the trailer.

"Thor?" she asked, and you looked over at her. Thor smiled at her and walked over towards her, leaving you standing there alone. "Jane, this is Lady Y/N, one of my closest friends," Thor explained. There was that word again, friend. You smiled at Jane, heartbroken once again.

Before another moment passed you remembered why you were on Midgard in the first place. "Thor, I came to warn you," you told him. "Warn me about what?" he questioned. "Loki, he means to attack you," you replied. "What? Why?" "He wanted to be King. He's part of the reason you were banished, and Odin is in Odinsleep right now, which means that the throne has fallen to him for the time being. He wants to keep it that way. He's trying to kill you," you explained.

Confusion, shock, and anger were written all over Thor's face as he tried to comprehend what you were saying. "We need to get back to the town and get the people there to safety," Thor explained as you, he, Jane and another man all headed back towards the town.

Once you got there, you all tried to help the people, but it wasn't too long before the Destroyer came, ready to finish off Thor. Thor confronted the Destroyer and, knowing that Loki could see and hear everything, asked that Loki leave the humans alone in return for him. You tried to protest the offer, but Thor wouldn't listen.

The Destroyer responded with a vicious backhand that threw Thor's body. You went to go run to help him, but Jane was already there. It hurt you seeing her caring for him as you should be, but there was nothing you could do about it. You could tell that there was something between the two of them.

Luckily for you, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three had arrived to help with everything that was going on. Thor continued to fight the Destroyer, and soon won, but you both knew that the battle was far from over with Loki still ruling as King.

You, Thor, Sif and the Warriors Three made your way back to the site where Heimdall could easily transport you all back to Asgard. You waited as Thor said goodbye to Jane, and after watching them share a passionate kiss, your heart was truly shattered, because you realized that it would never be you that he loved. You would never be good enough. And that realization alone was enough to convince you that you couldn't go back to Asgard with Thor.

"Are you ready, Y/N?" Thor asked, and you gave him a small smile. "I'm not going, Thor," you replied. His face fell as he stared at you. "What? What do you mean?" he asked. "I'm staying here on Midgard," you replied. "Why? Your home is on Asgard," he responded.

"I can't explain it, Thor. But I need a new start. I just can't go back," you replied. "But I can't leave you, you're my best friend," Thor told you. You let one tear escape before saying, "Which is exactly why I am staying. Don't worry Thor, I'm sure we'll see each other again. After all, you did promise Jane you would be back for her," you told him. He nodded his head before pulling you into a hug.

"I'll miss you," Thor said softly. "I'll miss you too," you replied. Thor disappeared into the Bifrost, along with your friends. You watched them go, tears in your eyes. You wanted to be with Thor, but you knew that you needed a new start, to try to get over your feelings for him before you could see him again.
