CHAPTER 10

The light remained, and the warmth continued, but what seemed odd was the wind.

I seemed to gain consciousness of my senses. I felt wind whip against my left cheek. Explosion's continued to carry out. I frowned with severe confusion.

I gasped for air as my lungs recovered from being winded.

I shot my eyes open, needing answers to my surroundings.

Building's quickly passed by. The sky approached me though. It seemed I was ascending towards the sky. I was moving towards heaven?

I heard a deep chuckle beside me. A chest rising and falling at each laugh.

'You are not in heaven.' That voice was familiar.

I both sighed and panicked. I turned my head to see that long, curved horn gold helmet. Those icy blue eyes and pale skin. The raven black hair that poked our the sides of the helmet.

I was laying in Loki's lap as he had saved me from the fall. I was bent into his arms, leaning against his chest for support. My knees folded and hung my forelegs freely over the edge. My head was supported by Loki's left arm.

My breath shortened with panic once again.

I didn't know whether I should sit up or stay where I was, providing we were flying. My muscles moved without my doing. Controlled to do what was requested. I managed to gain balance and sit aside Loki on the Chariot.

Recovering my breath and heartbeat to a steady pace, I looked over to Loki. 'Thank you.'

It was barely a whisper as my throat tightened. No one could hear me with the wind and level of my voice, but I'm sure Loki could have known what I said. I was beyond thankful that Loki had showed up and saved me when he did. He didn't give much emotion to my thanks and focused his attention below.

I looked ahead of us as tears rolled partly down my cheeks before they were blown away by the wind.

After a minute or so, I gathered myself and wiped away the remaining tears. We were flying above the buildings and observed the battle that played out below us. After I heard a decent amount of loud destruction and  crumbling concrete, I directed my attention to the chaos.

The Avengers were fighting our army on a road bridge beneath our watch. A Chitauri Leviathan slithered its way through the air towards the gathered Avengers. It was like a freight train that flew and carried its Chitauri soldiers to drop to the ground and battle, or jump onto a building and latch on, smashing windows to access humans and destroy everything.

I was hopeful and sure they wouldn't be able to take it on. I was awaiting there defeat and for them to be crushed, but as an average looking human seemed to approach it with confidence, I frowned.

I had recognised him as Banner. He was a pathetic, small imbecile.

He turned to face the Leviathan after chatting to the group of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes". It slithered along the ground as it headed for its target, crumpling the road and crushing cars. Banner started growing, his skin turned green and he developed into a large muscled monster. Green and viscous.

After he appeared fully developed, he lofted and arm and bundled a right first. He threw it at the nose of the Leviathan and crushed it's grey, metal face under the great force that was applied. This monster seemed both strong and indestructible.

As the Leviathan had been brutally slowed, the force directed it to curl and ascend into the sky above the Avengers, almost like doing a back flip. I was hopeful they would be crushed, but the metal human fly underneath the falling Leviathan and fired a small rocket that exploded under impact. It disintegrated the Leviathan and rained fire and metal debris, saving his friends from being crushed. The head rolled off the bridge and onto the shop fronts where people were.

The Avengers assembled and formed almost a circle. They looked outwards and readied their weapons or defence system, the monster roaring to the enemy, to our side. People everywhere in the streets cheered for their win. The Avengers prepared for further and more intense battle, now confident in anything that would come their way.

My eyes were widened and brows had lifted in such shock.

I whispered to myself, but any sound was grabbed and forced away with the wind. 'Well I did not see that coming.'

I got a mental slap from Loki as he disciplined me for loosing my own confidence.

I turned to Loki who watched the Avengers and his Leviathan's destruction. He was motionless, but his eyes told me he disapproved of the amount that the Avengers stood against his army. They were an underestimating strength.

'Send the rest.' Loki ordered to whoever was on the other aide of that portal.

I looked above us as more Leviathan's and Chitauri soldiers entered earth's atmosphere.

The Avengers had probably discussed battle approaches as Stark took off into the air with a bow and quiver of interesting arrows.

Thor then spun his hammer in a fast motion, gaining sped and then using that to fly into the air. The green monster jumped close to the top of a building to destroy our soldiers, jumping to other buildings for further destruction.

Thor landed on a tall tower that came to a thin point. He grasped its side for sturdiness as he directed thunder clouds, focusing the electricity of the lightening into his hammer, travelling down his arm and covering the tower like glowing veins. He then directed it towards the portal in a thick bolt of lightening. The electricity surged through the swarming Chitauri soldiers and Leviathans, destroying them before they had a chance to fight.

I noticed the man with the bow had been placed upon a roof and fired arrows at our soldiers, melting their metal or blowing them up. Stark was leading multiple Chitauri through the city.

I was forming a strategic battle plan, knowing we were not succeeding as hoped. Something had clicked within me before, and I felt as though an instinct had kicked in. Like I was skilled in this genre and knew what to do.

I turned to Loki. 'We needn't focus all attention upon the Avengers. They'll destroy all our army before we can cover a large area of destruction. If that's what you want we need to focus most of the Chitauri army towards destruction of the city, not defeating the Avengers.'

Loki never made eye contact, assuming he was either too focused upon managing his army or slightly worried. 'Alarmed be not, the Chitauri know what to do. The enemy only want you to fear any approaching loss. We will win.'

Shrugging it off knowing Loki was the leader and seemed confident enough, I let it be.

We moved to the streets again to continue destruction. After flying for a little, Romanoff came into our view, directing a chariot that had clearly been hijacked by her.

Loki fired at her in an attempt to send her off and kill her. It seemed as though Loki knew where she was headed and needed to specifically attack her in order to stop her in proceeding. She turned around as we had her undivided attention. She recognised Loki and practically rolled her eyes.

We continued firing at her as we rounded a corner, heading for Stark's tower as Loki brought a hand up in sudden motion. He had caught an arrow with his left hand and looked behind us at the shooter. I followed his gaze, seeing it was the man with the bow. He seemed to have good aim.

A tick wounded from the arrow and was followed by an explosion. It sent Loki and I flying towards the balcony if Starks tower, letting Romanoff free from our chase.

I was sent to free fall once again. I shattered the glass barriers of the balcony and rolled further into it, as did Loki. It was a hard fall but I saw Loki lift his head with the flick of his hair. His helmet had been blown off, almost an indication of the defeat that was at his doorstep. I slowly rose to my feet, wincing in pain that was present in my right hip and shoulder, evident that a bruise would form. I was bound to be covered in scratches and blood from the glass shards, along with bruises in random places.

Loki focused his attention on the green monster that appeared from the side if the building. He quickly approached Loki and pushed him into the penthouse, shattering more windows.

I went to help defend Loki on instinct.

As I raced through the glass door and ran up to help Loki, he had stood up from the fall. I ran directly up to the green beast with no weapon. I balled my right fist and focused my energy into my right arm. I took a swing at the monsters head, jumping a little to reach it. He balled his own fist and quickly punched me with ease.

He had hit my chest and sent me to the wall, hitting my head and sending a wash of darkness upon me as I tumbled to the floor with a thud. I lost all sense, followed by my consciousness.

All sense came back and I regained consciousness. I was curled and noticed the room was quiet. However, chaos sounded outside the building. I frowned.

I slowly and, very painfully, propped myself on my elbows. I twisted my body to gain a view of the outside. Chitauri soldiers continued to attack and destroy.

My mouth had been agape from the shock I was experiencing. I knew I had done many things that weren't right. I killed people, but I couldn't control what I was doing.

My vision was normal, giving me an indication that I broke out of Loki's mind control. I was frustrated and angry with Loki's doing. I looked towards him where he lay, assuming he was in too much pain to move.

With much agony, I rose to my feet. I stumbled over to Loki, my feet barely making the steps easily. I stepped on a piece of rubble where the concrete floor had been destroyed and crumpled.

I practically rolled my ankle and fell forwards. I landed on my hands and knees. Now, next to Loki, I could observe him. My anger was mixed with sorrow with the instant that I gazed upon his face.

He was indeed evil but something fuelled it. There was a sense of brokenness to his soul. He wasn't treated the most fairest in his life and was now taking that out upon those who didn't deserve the consequences his actions. He hadn't yet known what was in his life. He didn't know what he had. He wanted the world to run a certain way, his way. He wanted people to treat him in specific ways that wouldn't be just.

He needed to be shown love. He needed to know that he was loved by people out there. He needed to know the power of love and what it can do and make you feel. Someone needed to face him and show him he was worth something great already. Show him he didn't need that crown or title of King, ruler, or leader to be something.

I hooked my messy hair behind my left ear and was bringing a shaky hand to his right cheek. He was frowning in confusion and observed me.

His pale face was red from scratches above his left eyebrow and at the corner of his right eye. The left side of his chin was red with injury, a deep cut visible on the bridge of his nose. The bottom right of his lip was split. His raven hair kept its mould. His clothes were covered in concrete dust as he laid in the crumpled rubble of the smashed floor. His golden armour was hazed by the dust and scraped from battle. He had almost became a part of the floor.

I was near to resting my hand against Loki's cheek when sudden silence had me worried. Taking my hand into my lap, I turned towards the glass wall to see what had happened. The Chitauri army were dropping to the ground like dead batteries and the explosions and screams that came from below on the streets had ceased.

Final sounds of crashes from the falling army indicated that the portal had been shut off. All connection from the other side to the army on earth was cut like wires. This was an indication that the Avenger had won the battle.

I sighed within my thoughts, grateful that no more destruction was to happen. I rested my chin upon my shoulder, thinking of what had actually just happened.

I had sided forcefully with the cruel army, participating in destruction. I had probably killed people and certainly destroyed much property. I was a part of the careless and hated enemy. I fought against earth's mightiest heroes. What would be thought of me now?

A tear escaped my eye, but I quickly wiped it away, removing any sign of weakness. I turned back to Loki, preparing to show or tell him something that may move his heart in any way.

I opened to speak but a Loki began to sit up. He winced in such agony as he clambered to the step next to him. I didn't know whether I should help him, seeming he could probably do with a little consequence for his actions.

The rubble tumbled as he moved. He was clearly so severely injured by whatever happened that he needed more time to heal, but he wasn't going to do that. Loki slapped his left hand on the highest step and lifted himself from the trench with struggle. He sat on the bottom step and lent on his elbow. Hus breath was heavy with exhaustion.

He suddenly paused and looked in the distance past me on my right.

It seemed he had sensed something, or someone and knew who they were. He turned around to observe someone behind me, looking up, down, and across.

I turned around and followed his gaze.

There standing were all avengers gathered, threatening Loki and I with their weapons readied. Their faces told us they were not impressed and had written down a new enemy in their books.

'If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.' Loki made an attempt to buy himself some time one earth, needing to heal and concoct another devious and cruel plan.
