Phils POV

"I'm so glad you agreed to this" I said to Jade as we reached the front door of the flat, Dan had been pacing his room half the night and I was guessing it was due to this. Jade hadn't spoken much the whole way here but I was hoping they'd at least talk to each other.
"Dan? We're here" I called into the apartment, holding the door open for Jade to walk in. I looked around the flat and spotted Dan in the living room.
"Oh hi, sorry, BBC is playing re runs of Doctor Who. I didn't notice you come in" Dan said as he lowered the volume on the TV.
"Don't lower it!" Jade burst out and sat on the sofa with Dan "Doctor Who is amazing, is this Tennant?"
"Yeah" Dan replied and turned the volume back up to a normal level. I was happy they were getting along, soon they were on about other doctors
"Personally I think Christopher Eccleston is the best" I chipped in but Jade pushed me off the sofa
"You can't say that and then watch Tennant" She winked at me and I chuckled as I sat back up
"Sorry not sorry"
"Think we can forgive him?" Dan asked Jade, even though he also loved Eccleston the same as me, he was just trying to connect with Jade and it was good he wanted to get along with her. I wasn't so sure if he would even talk to her after the way he had reacted last night.
"Hmm... fine" She replied and looked down at me "come on up here"

As we watched Doctor Who I felt an odd tension fill the room but I couldn't quite figure out why it was there, Dan and Jade seemed comfy enough. Maybe it was me? Maybe I was worrying too much and was the one making the place feel on edge constantly. After the marathon finished a few hours later Jade looked down at her watch, I glanced up at the wall clock and could see it was getting pretty late.
"Want to stay for food?" Dan asked Jade, making me smile
"Thanks for the offer but I really should be going" She told him and then looked over at me
"I'll walk you home" I said "Dan, you wanna order a take out whilst I'm gone?" I questioned as I just wanted something quick and we didn't have too much in the freezer.

"That was nice" I said to Jade as we walked up the path to her house, she hmmd in response but looked away.
"You coming the new years eve party at my place?" she asked me
"You're having a party?" this was the first time I'd heard about it, maybe it was just a spur of the moment thing? Knowing Jade that would be it.
"Yeah. My parents are going out of town"
"Okay sure. Can't wait" I nodded. I mean a party would be fun, better than staying in and doing nothing on New years eve like I did every year.
"Oh and one thing..." she said and stared into my eyes "Don't bring Dan"
What? How could I not bring my best friend? I couldn't believe she was asking me that after they'd got along so well! She was constantly talking to him, laughing at his jokes.
"Don't you like him?" I asked confused
"Ugh I can't stand the guy! I don't even know why you're friends with him."
"What?" how had I not noticed how two faced she was before? Why was she even being like this? If you don't like my friend well deal with it because we come as a package.
"Can you like, distance yourself away from him? For me, otherwise I can't see us lasting all that long" I widened my eyes in shock but she quickly added in her sweetest voice "Don't worry babe. I'll hook you up with some new friends at the party". Before I could open my mouth to speak she hurried into her house and closed the door.

I walked home in stunned silence, walking through the streets but not paying attention to anything, my mind else where. I only stopped when I noticed a shop and quickly escaped the cold. What was so wrong with Dan? Had something happened that I wasn't aware of?
I bought something and left the store as quickly as I had entered it.

I opened the front door of our apartment and looked into the living room, Dan was nowhere to be seen. I sighed and went to sit on the sofa when I heard Dan pacing in his room and low murmurings. Curious I walked over to his door and heard him saying things, he sounded upset.
"God I'm so stupid, how could I think he would ever like me? Jade is so nice and pretty and I'm a mess! Why do I have to love him? Is this some cruel joke?" my heart skipped a beat and I took a big intake of breath. He loved me? Since when? Suddenly a lot of things began to make sense, fitting into place like a jigsaw puzzle. Now I had all the pieces and could see the whole picture, I could see everything the way Dan had seen it. He didn't hate Jade last night, he had hated the fact that I had chosen Jade over him. I walked quietly back to the front door, opening it just to slam it shut so Dan would think I just got home.
"Phil?" I heard his voice ask me followed by footsteps.
"No I'm an anti robber" I tried to laugh as I hung my coat up in the hall, Dan arrived in the door way, his eyes looked sore. Not puffy from tears but close.
"Why anti?" He asked and titled his head
"Because I bought you something" I told him and reached into my coat pocket, I threw a bag of malteasers his way and, surprisingly, he caught it.
"This is why you're my friend!" he exclaimed and opened the bag quickly, fumbling with the packet as he moved too quickly.
"The only reason? I thought I was worth more than a bag of malteasers" I laughed, although I didn't feel in a laughing mood. There was something more on my mind "oh by the way Jades having a new years eve party at her house" I said and saw Dan nervously swallow a malteaser. Maybe he was nervous that he'd have to see me kiss Jade a midnight or something, or that I would ditch him on this holiday.
"Oh yeah? When is it" he smirked
"Oh shoot I forgot to ask" I mocked and bit my lip "so you wanna go?"
"I might be busy" he told me and looked at the floor
"Trust me. You'll want to be there" I encouraged, he just had to be there.
"Um. Since you've sweetened me up with malteasers how can I say no?" he scratched the back of his neck and looked anywhere but at me, he tried to half smile but it fell.
"I'm excited! Thank you. Thank you. We need to go shopping to pick what we're going to wear and we have so much to do." I exclaimed and jumped around, happy that he had agreed.
"It's only a party Phil" he said in a monotone voice if only he knew what was in store

An: I have a few things planned for the next chapter! I was going to write it here but I need to go college now so have a cliffhanger instead
