"Here's your coffee, sir. Please, enjoy!" You exclaimed while forcing a smile to the customer in front of you who had by the time taken his drink and left without uttering a word or even glancing up once from his phone.
Sighing in exasperation, you decided to start cleaning some empty tables within the beige quaint cafe that you worked at.
You had only started working here a few months ago after you took a break from college and needed to make more money to pay for your tuition to carry on.
You were studying to become a business major and hopefully work in a marketing team in some high paying company.
It wasn't your dream but at least it would give you a money-stress free life.
You grab your grey plastic box of cleaning supplies and make your way over to one of the empty used tables before beginning to wipe them down.
You lived with your mother and your father passed away when you were a child.
You didn't remember much about him but one thing you did remember was that he was very sick.
And you knew he was sick even though no one told you.
The reason for this was because of your gift. Well, the shamans that your mother took you too said it was a gift.
Even your mother had believed that you were the 'chosen one' sent from God to save this world.
Your mother was delusional, but she was loving and you loved her dearly.
"Achoo!" The sudden sneeze surprised you and made you turn to see the man that you served before was rubbing his itchy nose while looking at his phone.
He looked normal from the outside perspective but his throat and nose were illuminating red. No one else could see this except for you.
This was your 'gift'.
You could see where on and in the body the person was falling ill from - where they were getting sick.
Through your whole life thus far you've had this ability and you had thought it was normal until your mother found out.
She had thought you were possessed by an evil spirit since you could tell when someone was sick but that all quickly changed after a trip to a local temple and a lengthy talk with one of their shamans.
"Excuse me?" you tried to get his attention after leaving your cleaning station and making your way over to him.
For the first time, he had looked up at you with his tired eyes that have been clearly drawn too much by his phone.
"...may I help you?" You looked around to see if any of your coworkers were watching before reaching in to your apron pocket and taking out a lozenge to offer him.
"I noticed you had a cold so here's something for it" you smiled sweetly, hoping to show the older that you were trying to help him.
Hesitantly, the business man accepted your offer as he took the lozenge off of you before bowing slightly in thanks.
"Thank you, it's just what I needed-"
"Y/N!" You immediately winced at the familiar voice coming from the tills behind you before turning around slightly to look at your boss.
"A word, please" she threatened menacingly while glaring daggers over at you as she gestured for you to follow her.
Huffing out in defeat, you had already knew of what's to come when you go to see her outback.
"...I hope you get better" you quickly added before hurrying over to the back where your manager was impatiently waiting for you.
"...you wanted to see me?" By the time you had reached out back, you could already smell the scent of a burning cigarette and see the clouds of smoke coming from her.
You knew that when she was stressed out, she would result to smoking.
"Y/N. I hate to repeat myself every week so this is the last time. Stop giving our customers medication or medical advice, this is not a hospital and you're not a doctor. What do you think would happen if one of the customers were to end up in hospital because of the medicine you gave them? Do you know what they would do?" Gulping nervously, you proceeded to answer her question.
"...they would shut us-"
"They would shut us down, yes. So, if I see you doing that again in this cafe while you're working, I will not hesitate to fire you. Understood?" Immediately, you nodded before being apologetical, knowing that this was the last straw to keep your job.
"Good- *cough*" suddenly, your manager started to cough furiously. In your eyes, you could see that her chest area was extremely red and it outlined her lungs. You could tell that she was on the path to getting a pair of really bad lungs.
"...I really think you should stop smoking-"
"Get back to work" she interupted before taking another puff at her burning cigarette. Sighing for the nth time that day, you obeyed your manager as you walked back inside and returned to your duties.
Funnily enough, you were like a pharmacy on legs. You always had some sort of medication on you for strangers to take when you'd see them on the daily.
Some were really hesitant to take the drugs from you since it could be harmful in some way and also they knew not to trust strangers.
But perhaps it was because of your welcoming, kind aura that some do accept your offer.
You had to help them in some way because you didn't like the idea of knowing someone was sick and you could do nothing about it.
Well, there was also another reason but you didn't like to dwell on it much longer.
"Y/N, do you think you can go on the till again? I still haven't finished unpacking the morning deliveries" your coworker requested sheepishly as soon as you entered the the building.
"Oh? Yeah sure" grateful, she sent a smile your way and continued to unpack the powdered coffee beans away.
Turning on your heel, you returned to your till where there was already a customer waiting.
"Welcome to the 'Azalea Cafe', how may I-" you finally looked up from fixing your apron and you realised who was right in front you, making you smile brightly.
"Oh! Morning, officer Jeon!" The male rolled his eyes before removing his hands from his black leather jacket and crossing his arms over his chest.
"Just call me Jungkook when I'm off duty" you gave him a lopsided smile as you leant on the counter slightly to get closer to him.
"I couldn't do that, you're an Officer and you're older than me" you argued.
"Then why don't you call me 'oppa' instead?" He teased while you visibly cringed. He chuckled slightly before coughing, holding his hand over his chest as he did so.
"No way" all of a sudden, his chest and throat changed to a bright red colour, signifying that there was something wrong with him.
The officer had noticed this.
"What's wrong?" You immediately reached in to your pocket and took out the tablets that helped with acid reflux.
"Here, this will help soothe your throat" Jungkook was surprised at your offer, not because you knew that he needed them but because of how quick you noticed.
This wasn't the first time you had helped the officer through his health, actually, that was how you two met.
He had came to the cafe one morning with a terrible cold and as you would have for anyone else, you helped him out.
After that day, he had made sure to come every morning to buy his Americano (even though you had told him that coffee was bad for his health) and greet you just like today.
"Thanks, you know just what I always need" he sent a small smile your way as he took the tablets from you.
"It's no problem. So, cup of hot milk then?" This made him chuckle.
"No, Y/N. You already know my order" rolling your eyes, you trudged over to the coffee machine before starting to make his Americano to go.
"So, got any cases lately?" You were always intrigued with his exciting daily life as a police officer.
You were told by the other coworkers that he was well known for being the youngest officer (at the age of twenty three) in his precinct who was able to get the job done no matter what.
And also for his handsome looks.
"Not this week but, last week we finally caught that murderer who was hiding around Yongsangdong" you turned your body around momentarily to nod your head at the older.
"I saw on the news! Good job!" The male blushed slightly at your compliment after you turned around to make his coffee.
"Let's just hope it's not another murder case this week" you had finally finished making his hot beverage and carefully, you made your way back and gave his Americano-to-go.
"You can swipe your card now and yeah, I hope so too" pursing your lips in a small smile, Jungkook paid for his drink before grinning in your direction.
"I'll see you tomorrow and maybe you'll call me 'oppa' this time?"
"In your dreams" both of you chuckled before waving eachother farewell.
As soon as the officer left the cafe, a coworker of yours instantaneously ran over to your side.
"'And maybe you'll call me 'oppa' this time'? Girl- if that isn't an obvious sign that he likes you, I don't know what is!" Rolling your eyes you pushed the younger male away from you, having had enough of his antics.
"How on earth does that mean he likes me? Every girl has to call their older guy friends that" you explained while cleaning the counter with a cloth from your apron.
"Yeah but he's hoping that you will call him that too~" he teased whilst leaning on the food display glass.
"Off the glass, Sangmin" you warned before wiping away at the glass he touched.
"Fine, be in denial and single forever. But mark my words, you'll regret not seeing what I see and you'll miss your chance dating a police officer" and with that, Sangmin held his head high and left back to his station.
Clicking your tongue in amusement, you were about to carry on cleaning the counter until your phone vibrated in your pocket.
Setting aside your cloth, you took out your phone and saw that your mother was calling.
Without hesitation, you answered and put the phone between your ear and shoulder.

"Hey, Mum"
"Morning, honey~ how is my daughter doing?"
"I'm working at the cafe"
"Oh? Why did you answer my call then? Shouldn't you be busy?"
"There's no customers right now so I'm not that busy"
"Hmm, okay. Well, make sure to come home early- *cough cough* "

Concerned, you grabbed the phone from your shoulder and stopped cleaning the counters.

"Are you okay, Mum? Is your asthma acting up again? Do you have your inhaler?"
"I'm fine honey! Just an itchy thro- *cough cough*"

This only worried you more.

"It's definitely your asthma. Where's your inhaler? Are you outside?"
"Actually, honey... I'm at the hospital. I had an asthma attack at work and they called an ambulance for me. Don't worry! I'm just fine now!"

Immediately, you took off your apron and went under the counter to leave.
"Err, where are you going?" Sangmin called out after seeing you flee from your station.
"I'm going to the hospital. If the manager asks where I am, make sure to tell her and say it was urgent" you didn't have time to tell the manager yourself and you had only hoped that she would be understanding.

"Honey? What are you doing?"
"I'm on my way! You're at the Ascelpius Hospital, right?"
"Yes, but you have work! You don't need to come and see me-"
"I'm coming and that's final. I'll see you soon"

And with that, you ended the call.
You remembered that you left your purse in your bag back at the cafe but you weren't going to waste time by going back and fortunately for you, you already had some cash tips from the customers this morning.
Enough for a taxi ride to the hospital.
As soon as you reached outside to the chilling autumn air, you searched for a nearby taxi to take you downtown.
"What do you mean you don't love me?!" A girl screeched behind you.
Momentarily, you stretched your neck to see what was going on and realised that two people were arguing outside the apartment complex beside the cafe you worked at.
"I don't even know your name! So get away from me!" It was a boy's voice this time.
You kept searching for a taxi while tapping your foot nervously. The couple behind you were not helping.
"You have to love me! We made love-"
"It was a one night stand! I can't believe I'm having this conversation right now- and now I'm going to be late!" The boy pushed passed the girl and was now standing a few feet away from you.
Thankfully, you found a taxi down the the street and you instantly waved at it to stop.
The driver noticed you and began slowing down before stopping a little ways in front of you.
You were about to grab the door handle to get in to the warm vehicle when another hand had beat you to it.
"Wha- hey!" You yelled in disbelief. It was the boy that was arguing with the woman behind you just then.
"I called this taxi first so let me pass!" He scowled, ready to push you out of the way.
"No, I called this taxi over! Isn't that right, Mr?" You asked before bending down slightly to talk to the driver.
"I pulled over because of this lady" you whipped your head in the stranger's direction and showed with your face a 'I told you so' expression.
"No you don't understand, I need to get in this taxi- I'm going to be late for work!" You rose your brow in confusion once you saw his attire. He wore a black ripped up denim jacket with matching jeans and a white tshirt underneath.
He looked like he was going out with his friends.
Not to work.
"Uhuh, bye" ignoring his shouts, you entered the taxi and finally drove off.
"Where to, Miss?" Realising you hadn't told him your destination yet, you informed him to take you to the Asclepius hospital.
You rested back in to your seat and in the rear view mirror of the taxi, you could see the boy from before still shouting at you while kicking over a nearby bin.
